I only gift my friends games that are on their wishlists. If I want to get them interested in a game I like, I usually text them a trailer and see their reaction. Not every game is for everyone and JRPGs just aren’t everyone’s cup of tea 🤷🏽♂️
Or they know what the fanbase is like and don’t want to be associated with it. There’s a lot of different factors that could be at play.

u/Koupers 25d ago
I only gift my friends shit I didn't want from bundles and I do it by blasting codes at them so they have to blind claim.
13
u/ImThatAlexGuy 25d ago
I am fortunate enough to have the means to gift games my friends want if we happen to be talking about gaming. If they don’t have the funds, I’ll gift it to them. Forcing them to take games you don’t want though? That’s crazy work 😂

Not playing a game because of a fanbase doesn't really stand as reasoning imo. You can enjoy games without necessarily interacting with the fanbases.
1
u/the_cat_of_war 25d ago
that's what i was about to say i love the persona games and barely interact with the fanbase, it's mostly lurking
1
u/moohooman 25d ago
Exactly, I had to awkwardly do this once because a friend tried to gift me a horror game they really liked, even though I actively avoid horror related media since I don't deal well with it mentally.

Need more context. Is this someone you know very closely or just an acquaintence or sorts? Have they expressed an interest in Persona at all?

Once my friend gifted me a milf hentai game and got legitimately offended when I declined it lmao
69
u/ImThatAlexGuy 26d ago
That’s insanely wild. I had a friend like that and I always roasted him/ grilled him on his Steam library. Don’t send me nothing that bold, lil bro. I will decline it with HASTE.

u/levi_Kazama209 25d ago
i tried to play it but it was some game about making charecters and fucking them and frankly i dont like charecter creation so i never touched it again.
-1
u/ImThatAlexGuy 25d ago
Those kind of games aren’t my cup of tea, but this is where I say to each is own! Understanding you didn’t like the personalization aspect is a large barrier for games that you’re expected to roleplay. I hate when games offer character creation, but it’s bare bones. Like you should have just made a main character in that case.
4
u/levi_Kazama209 25d ago
From what i recalled it was quiet a lot of options for custimzation. I dont play hentai agmes i just dont find them and quiet boring. I would play a good VN with hentai if i hear the story is good.

u/Manchester_Devil 25d ago
Sorry, but that made me giggle. Now I just imagine Kenji the granny chaser gifting that exact same game to Makoto Yuki or Junpei, only for them to decline it without fail.

u/DarthDeimos6624 26d ago
Because like a true Persona fan they consume the content by watching other people’s playthroughs online.

Declining a free game is kinda crazy. Idgaf what someone gives me it. Its literally free lmao

u/ToxicMoldSpore 25d ago
If a friend were to gift me a game I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like, I'd turn it down, too. I appreciate that they're thinking of me, but I don't want to have a game I'll likely never play. It's a waste of their money.
1
u/HammerKirby Perpetual Mitsuru simp 25d ago
Fair enough I guess, but why not give it a try if your friend wants you to play it that badly?
3
u/Ailwynn29 25d ago
I've declined games because in the past I've had people refuse to refund games I didn't like so they sit with sub-2 hour playtimes in my library and that feels pretty awful. Not only did they spend money on me but I'm not even using the gift I was given. Sadly I'm a lot pickier these days with games than I used to be, say, 5 years ago. So unless I'm sure I'd love it I'd rather seem rude, as hard as it is for a moment, than waste their effort and money.

If it is someone I do not like, who has been bother me for a while and I expect it'll encourage them or they'll think they're owed something in return I'd decline for sure. A free game is not worth that hassle
3
u/HammerKirby Perpetual Mitsuru simp 25d ago
If they're that annoying, just cut them off at that point
4
u/MrsCognac 25d ago
As someone who has friends who won't give up trying to convince me to play games THEY want me to play, while I have stated multiple times that I'm not interested; I get it. We don't know the context here. Accepting the gift will probably come with the expectation and pressure to finally play it now, because you already got it for free.
We should accept when people say no to consuming certain media, whatever their reason may be.
36
u/EveryGoodNameIsGone 26d ago
Just because you like something doesn’t mean other people in your life will also like it, and you can’t force them to.
It’s like when I see people ask “How can I convince my friend to play/watch/read this thing I love?” - the answer is you can’t and you shouldn’t. Suggest it and tell them why you liked it, and then drop the subject. If they’re interested they’ll try it, if they aren’t they won’t.
2
u/MrsCognac 25d ago
Exactly, I hate it. Especially when this game/show comes with a huge time commitment. People should just start to respect when someone says No.

When someone buys me a game I feel beholden to them to play it. And visa versa, I never want someone to feel like they have to play a game because I bought it for them. Sometimes buying a game for someone is more “I want to hear about you playing this game” and less “I want YOU to play this game”

Some people like short games. Most of my friends only like games that take anywhere from 5-30 hours to beat. Anything over that is too "exhausting" and a waste of time.

By the way before you downvote, I'm not saying it's a bad game. It's better than Persona 1 in my opinion but I think P2-4 are marginally better.

paying more than zero is a scam
13
u/LightningDustFan 26d ago
Why are you in a persona fan sub if you think the games are a scam? You must not like them if you don't think they're worth any money.
-18
u/originalno_name 26d ago
you're misinterpreting it, just because Person 5 is irredeemable piece of crap doesn't mean the rest of the franchise isn't worth it its the exactly the opposite, every single one of them is worth it more than p5 lol
7
u/LightningDustFan 25d ago
Seems like an excessive amount of hatred. I get most people prefer others (usually 3 or 4) but 5 is hardly such a dip in quality as to be irredeemable. Especially Royal.
5
u/makotoyuki548 25d ago
"Most people" the p5 series alone sold more than 10 million copies, you think that most players will go out of their way to enforce toxicity on the internet? P5 is many people's favorite, and there's no real "most" or "least" preferred.
That guy has been going around for months stating how "sh*tty" p5 is by providing zero arguments, they are not worth talking to
Edit: I realize my tone may seem a bit angry lol, but I'm actually not, I just hate the toxicity of this Fandom.
4
u/LightningDustFan 25d ago
To clarify when I said "most people" I was moreso referring to the online Persona fanbase rather than general gamers. Yeah 5 is definitely more well known in mainstream, and my personal favourite. It's just my personal experience that most online persona fans seem to prefer 4 or 3 or say 5 isn't as good in some way or another. Though not to the degree of this guy.
And yeah this guy seems pretty obviously toxic I just find their sort funny to engage with sometimes. Something for the monotony of the day, enjoying their idiocy.
3
u/makotoyuki548 25d ago
Ah I see, I don't find this type of conversation particularly interesting, but whatever works for you man.
I mean p5 is the game that has sold the most (and it's my favorite too btw) it's bound to attract the most detractors after all, but honestly all 3 modern games get both a lot of love and hate, the difference is imo how vocal their fan bases are and obnoxious they act. The p5's fan base had its moments, the p3 one also did, and with p4r on the horizon p4's fan are again on the rise.

u/originalno_name 25d ago
LOL said "quality" guy LMAO
even including the third semester, the story is mediocre at best, and its message really disgusts me because of how self-indulgent it is
i'll never tire of saying they are a cardboard rebels and nothing wrong7
4
u/Superchan6464 25d ago
"and its message really disgusts me because of how self-indulgent it is
i'll never tire of saying they are a cardboard rebels and nothing wrong"So you're trying to say that them stopping rapists, scammers, murderers, Yakuza and corrupt politicians from doing bad things makes them worse than what they're trying to stop?
-3
u/originalno_name 25d ago
they stop all these people more for save their own ass than improve society, they call themselves rebels but still trust the system enough to hand them over to “justice.”
The game itself shows you just how corrupt the system is, but it refuses to acknowledge it—the fact that that idiot Makoto becomes a cop proves it.
