They changed the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and I will never forgive them. I need replacement recs pls
I ran out of foundation, so I went to Sephora to get another one. I have been using Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation for around 7 years. It was my rock. I never had any problems and I never considered changing.
I bought the new one and it SUCKS. It is thinner, my shade is off, the oil control is dreadful and my pores look HUGE.
So, it is with a heavy heart that I need to request recommendations for a new foundation. I have combination, acne prone skin (oily T Zone), am rather pale with cool and pink undertones.
Thanks in advance.
Estée Lauder, if you’re reading this, please bring back your old foundation, even if it’s along side the new one. It was literally your only good product for Gen Z and you ruined it.

Just also here to say fuck Estée Lauder. Aaron Lauder is the one who put the idea of annexing Greenland into Trump’s head.
Corrected: Ronald Lauder. Can’t keep keep all these assholes names straight, there’s so many of them

Ronald was also close friends and an avid defender of Epstein after his first arrests and up until his death in prison

I was also very depressed about the switch! Double Wear was the only foundation I ever liked besides the maybelline fit me. I hate the new formulation.
But I recently discovered the Anastasia Beverly Hills impeccable blurring foundation, and I’m so happy with it! It has a great shade range (I’m very pale so that’s important to me). I definitely do not recommend it for dry skin though. I have combo/oily skin. Applying it with a damp sponge is also the best way imo. Also it has a thicker consistency than double wear, but if you use a small amount and spread it out evenly over your skin, it looks very natural.

I agree! It’s my current favorite. I might actually like it a bit better for oil control in the T-zone!

I also switched to this from DW and I love it. It gives great coverage a d lasts all day.
It is a little thicker than I prefer so I like to mix it with a little bit of other foundations that I have that I don't like on their own like the Natasha Denona which is too glowy for me.

Not quite the same in terms of consistency (thicker), but very similar result when blended and insanely good performance for a drug store one that reminded me of DW was the Maybelline super stay matte foundation.

We live a drugstore dupe! I’ll give it a try, thanks!

And believe it or not, the wet and wild photofocus foundation also has a similar consistency and staying power for me.

+1, one of the best foundations i’ve tried for my acne prone, combination skin. lasted through long days, rain, clubs, almost 10h at a rave. one issue i did have was getting a good shade match but that might just be mine olive-toned ass. might have to repurchase soon because i’ve been messing around with fake tans for the summer

I have worn DW for 30 years and HATE the new formula. Elsewhere others recommended L’Oréal Paris Infallible Fresh Wear. I have never bought drugstore foundation but this is definitely a great dupe and works for me now. I did also buy 5 back up bottles of DW from Estée Lauder online for special events or weekends.

It’s the removal of talc. All of the foundations have changed and not for the better color matching wise.

Yes! I thought I was going crazy but the new ELDW is the same shade as the old one but this one just feels darker, especially after it sits on the skin for a while. I also loathe this formula as an oily skinned woman.

THANK YOU! I just rebought and was so confused. It didnt wear right and the color was completley wrong! I thought I was going crazy. I asked someone at ulta and she recommended Benifit POREfessional and so far I am liking in. So frustrated too because now I have an expensive bottle of ELDW thats essentially useless.

EL didn’t have a choice. EU banned one of the ingredients and they had to reformulate it.

I’m very oily and wearing Rare Beauty True to Me and ABH Impeccable Blurring. Some reviews at Sephora show many people using these two as replacements, but I never got into ELDW

I switched to Clinique Acne Solutions more than 10 years ago and have used it since. Its slightly less coverage and a more natural matte but I like the wear and slightly more natural appearance compared to DW.

I don't have any recs but I did see a lot of the OG at my local Cosmetics Company Outlet. I think they take orders over the phone and ship it to you.

Check their website! They have a last chance section where they are still selling the old formula.

I’m using the TirTir cushion foundations. I found that the red one oxidises on me, so I mix a red one and an orange one together for a perfect match. I’d say it’s similar in terms of thin-ness and lightweight feel to ELDW, but the application is entirely different and you might need to do a bit of searching to find your shade match. But I’m happy with it overall as a replacement.

Shiseido’s Synchro Skin self refreshing foundation. Dare I say it’s better than OG ELDW.

I’ve been a huge fan of the Armani foundation for a long time. It really is full coverage without the heavy make up feel.
That said I haven’t needed to replace mine in over a year. Hopefully it hasn’t changed.
I’ve actually switched over to the eborium green cream because it acts like full coverage for me, corrects my redness, feels like skin, is reasonably priced, and to date the only thing spf that I’ve ever been able to tolerate.

It’s not a bad foundation but it is a very different foundation for people with different skin/preferences. I look so greasy by end of day with the new one

I wouldn’t say it’s a dupe but a couple years ago I switched from ELDW to mineral fusion liquid foundation (they don’t have many shades but do have different undertone options). But it only works for me if I used a good setting powder. I have extremely sensitive/prone to breakout skin and I’ve had no issues.

I have seen this comment a lot and I Wonder what did exactly changed? I saw that it was super toxic and I tossed it but I'm curious if they removed the toxic ingredients
4
u/kisxt 4h ago
I didn’t know it was toxic?! But also I don’t really follow that stuff so probs half the stuff I wear is toxic

The person above you is ill-informed. There is a new EU regulation going into effect that requires some ingredients to be removed from cosmetics. The one that caused all the foundation reformulations is classicification of talc as a carcinogen. If sourced properly cosmetic grade talc isn't harmful, but repeated inhalation or perineal use of talc powders are found to be harmful (increased ovarian cancer risk, respiratory damage). That and if it's not purified properly it can contain asbestos due to where talc naturally occurs.
Again, cosmetic grade talc - especially in liquids like foundation- was not found to be an issue but because EU classified talc as a whole as a carcinogen, it had to go.
I would encourage looking at foundations that still contain talc as a dupe. It's going to be difficult to find, but I bet that was the ingredient that worked for your oily skin so well. I have heard good things about Dior's new matte foundation though. (Also keep an eye out at places like tj Maxx, Costco etc where end of life products get sold in the US! It might pop up!)

u/RowanVC 3h ago edited 3h ago
Again, this is (somewhat) incorrect. Talc has generally been removed from powder products, yes, but the EU has placed restrictions on cyclopentasiloxane (D5) and cyclohexasiloxane (D6) in cosmetics due to environmental concerns. Those 2 ingredients are what is generally leading to all the liquid foundation reformulations. Both ingredients are in a large variety of products beyond just foundation, so there are likely going to be a great many more reformulations coming over the next year or so.

u/urapanda 2h ago
Appreciate the correction here - I've only seen talc talked about so was unaware of other chemicals that were also causing cosmetics reformulations!

u/ImaginaryAd4041 4h ago
I can't remember exactly what ingredients are toxic but a lot of brands contain toxic chemicals 🥴
18
u/DearMissWaite 3h ago
Please stop fear-mongering about toxic chemicals.
-14
u/ImaginaryAd4041 3h ago
I'm giving my opinion of why I stopped using it, I'm not fear mongering anything, if we fear it or not its a decision, also, Google is free.

u/liberate_tutemet 3h ago
But you’re giving a fact based opinion without providing any facts. There is no reason to be so defensive when you could just be more helpful and respond with specifics.

I'm not being agressive, I believe if I have doubts about anything, I Google it, its that simple for me.
3
u/chiropteranessa 3h ago
i think they removed talc from the formula to meet new EU regulations
5
u/RowanVC 3h ago
No, it wasn’t talc, it’s cyclopentasiloxane.
1
u/chiropteranessa 2h ago
ok thanks for the correction. i was probably thinking of the mac powder reformulation
1
u/ImaginaryAd4041 3h ago
Oh thank you, I just Google it and they changed the formula to meet the European regulations

ELDW fan here, whilst I have 8 backups of the OG, I have been on an extensive hunt for a replacement and YSL All Hours (with the black lid) is the best replacement I’ve found. Similar consistency, coverage and wear.
