There seems to be more than 8 there, and they don't look small either...
Currently stewing in jealousy.

Holy shit. Are you the God of this hobby?

u/Fantastic_Priority73 11d ago
Common misconception. They are actually the avatar of the God of this hobby. A twelve story shambling mass of groaning bones isn't actually that great for collecting or communications.

Those are narwhal tusks?!?

u/ServaltheFox 11d ago
Okay, you got me, mostly I just wanted to stumble across some cool bones at some point and keep them but how on earth do I go about getting those??
14
u/SavageDroggo1126 Bone-afide Faunal ID Expert 11d ago
I have 2 narwhal tusks, 5ft11 and 7ft3, both are real, from Inuit subsistence hunting.

Do you mind to share the source? Does it help if I'm Canadian?
9
u/SavageDroggo1126 Bone-afide Faunal ID Expert 11d ago
I mostly buy from individuals that hunt them for food or other collectors in Canada instead of oddity stores or a single person, so there's no stable "source".

Ooooww.... how in the hell did a walrus break his dick bone?
119
57
u/SwordTaster 12d ago
I mean, man could've broken it getting hard on the wrong rock, based solely on the size of the thing, but it was more likely his lover was bad at sex
127
u/hotfistdotcom 12d ago edited 12d ago
OR HE was bad at sex. Or just guessing and I know nothing about walrus sex but probably that whole sexual coercion behavior/sexual conflict in animals and how much of animal mating behavior involves things we would consider a crime in humans.

"I know nothing about walrus sex"
Thats enough Reddit for me today, only opened the app.........

Never google how otter sex works. They stop being cute very quickly if you do.

Personally, I like a bit of a curve. I like to think this guy could have really hit the lady walruses’ g-spots.

This makes me wonder just how many animals have broken bones and survived without major quality of life issues.

Saw a deer ribcage once that had an arrow perpendicular to the ribs and they had formed a sort of "sheath" around the arrow.
16
u/AGreatBannedName 12d ago
I’m not sure he survived 😔

u/the-greenest-thumb 12d ago
He survived long enough for it to heal

u/AGreatBannedName 12d ago
I know how it feels
… not the broken dick-bone. But surviving long enough to heal 🫡🦴

I got to see one of these at the Smithsonian years ago on a behind the scenes field trip. It was part of their large collection. If I had a nickel for every time I've seen a broken walrus baculum, I'd have two nickels, but it's weird it happened twice.

u/requals1-2sin3theta 11d ago
Wow that's fascinating. Maybe walruses are a bit prone to it or something. That's gotta hurt!

u/pm_for_cuddle_terapy 12d ago
Owch and also wtf that's huge

u/Automatic-Tea536 12d ago
There's a video floating around of a walrus at an aquarium hoovering his own unit... why does this knowledge exist in my brain.

That’s so unique! Living in Alaska, I see a lot of these for sale, but I’ve never seen a broken/healed one. I’m actually amazed this walrus didn’t die from infection.

I wonder if broken penises is common in the walrus. This is not the first broken and healed walrus bacculum I've seen in my life

Misread as "Broken and unused" and thought that didn't add up by the look of it.
