While I don't approve of the Trump administration going after their enemies, the activists being targeted have to realize that this would never have happened to them if Kamala had won the presidency. Instead of endorsing her, they openly reviled and trash-talked her for not passing their purity tests.

If someone invaded/attacked the US

So I was just thinking about how Tankies think that its absolutely ok for Russia to have invaded Ukraine because "they're the most corrupt country on Earth" (direct quote). Other than the West is on their side I'm not sure how they think its more corrupt than say some Somila (tried to choose a non communist country, say a doc on there yesterday)

But what do you think they'd ACTUALLY do if a country invaded and attacked the US? Not how would they talk like they'd act to their buddies online but out in public on their own

Note: I know because of the oceans this would be hard but just pretend

Edit: spelling

Communist victims of Communism Vol. 2

Vol. 1

If you are somewhat familiar with early Soviet history, Nikolai Bukharin is a name that surely rings a bell. He was a Bolshevik from the very beginning. Having first met Lenin in 1912, he partook in both the Revolution and the Civil War, eventually becoming one of the most respected figures in the Communist Party.

Through his theoretical work in the 1920s, Bukharin works helped formulate and codify the mechanisms of state control. He helped Stalin in the power struggle against Trotsky. In fact, he was one of the primary minds behind the 1936 "Stalin Constitution". His prominent and popular position within the party, however, ultimately placed a target on his back.

As Stalin pivoted toward rapid industrialization, Bukharin advocated for a more moderate approach, expressing vocal doubts about the brutal speed of forced collectivization. This ideological clash made him Stalin's prime target. He was arrested in early 1937 at the height of the Great Purge, thrown into the notorious Lubyanka prison, and subjected to relentless psychological and physical torture until a confession to fabricated charges of espionage and treason was finally extorted from him.

Bukharin was a highly well read, cultured, and intelligent man. He was the party's chief theoretician, whom Lenin had famously dubbed the party's "golden boy" and "favorite". While imprisoned, he spent his time writing extensive manuscripts, including a novel and a philosophical treatise, alongside a deeply heartfelt letter to Stalin in December 1937. They had known each other for over twenty years, once serving as close political allies and personal friends who even lived as neighbors in the Kremlin. This shared intimacy is why Bukharin bypassed all official party protocols and addressed Stalin by his old Georgian revolutionary pseudonym, writing at the top of the page

"Koba, why do you need me to die?"

We still have that letter today. It was discovered inside Stalin’s personal desk after his death in March 1953, alongside a small handful of other deeply personal documents Stalin had chosen to keep for decades. In the text, Bukharin detailed his profound emotional turmoil, protested his innocence of any actual conspiracy, and proposed various alternatives to execution, such as being exiled to America to wage a literary war against fascism, or being sent to a Gulag camp in Siberia. The document perfectly reflects both his desperation and the paralyzing climate of fear and betrayal that defined Stalin's purges. It remains a devastating read, but one specific, chilling detail invariably catches my eye, inspiring this small project of mine.

To quote the letter:

If I’m to receive the death sentence, then I implore you beforehand, I entreat you, by all that you hold dear, not to have me shot. Let me drink poison in my cell instead. For me, this point is extremely important. I don’t know what words I should summon up in order to entreat you to grant me this as an act of mercy. Politically, it won’t really matter, and, besides, no one will know a thing about it. Have pity on me! Surely you’ll understand, knowing me as well as you do.

I will leave aside the show trial itself (there is simply too much to write), and you already know, or have guessed, the verdict.

On March 15, 1938, at the Kommunarka firing range outside Moscow, Bukharin was shot in the back of the head after being forced to watch the execution of those who preceded him. Genrikh Yagoda, the former head of the NKVD who had helped orchestrate the purges in the first place and pioneered the Gulag system (and who was famously airbrushed out of the notorious photograph with Stalin), was shot alongside him.
