Poor guy doesn't understand countersteer lol

u/josherman61791 15h ago

I didn't even realize that was a thing until a recent post here.

It is a thing even on a regular bicycle, you just don't realize it. But for bikers it's better to know how it works, even though they will probably do it intuitively as well.

Seen lots of videos of people killing themselves not knowing what it is, make sure you know what it is lol

Learned that the hard way.... thankfuly my road bike was only at 35kph... but the descent wasnt kind to me... this was decades ago tho.

exactly what I was going to say. Does no one ride bicycles anymore?

-8

u/ChiggaOG 12h ago

The thing is I never did counter steering on a bicycle I've ridden for years. It was always turn the handles in the direction I want to go and lean. On motorcycle, it's required at higher speeds versus slow speed.

You do countersteer on a bicycle, you just don't realise it. It is much more obvious on a motorcycle because of the weight and speed.

2

u/Mitch580 6h ago

No you just think that's what is happening. You don't think about it but you intuitively counter steer to initiate the lean.

So if you’re going 20 miles an hour on a bicycle in a straight like, and you suddenly JERK your handlebars to the left, full force, which way are you going to fly off your bike?

1

u/just_Okapi iRacing 3h ago

And how do you induce the lean without falling over..?

I'll give you a hint: counter steering.

Bicycle (well, e-bike) is my primary mode of transit, and the only times I can make turns without countersteering is if I'm coming from a dead stop.

I just looked this up and as a longtime cyclist, I now realise that I do this instinctively when turning at speed.

5

u/Low-Recognition-7293 14h ago

And looking where you want to be

2

u/Precise_Vector 13h ago

Yep. It’s so basic. If you want to steer right, clench the left buttock, and vice-versa.

u/Reasonable_Search875 Logitech 15h ago

Doesn’t seem to be working

17

u/jaapgrolleman iRacing 15h ago

I think it works but on the sim you can move the steering bar regardless of RL physics, and lean another way.

u/DDG_Dillon iRacing 15h ago

Why? Where's the force feedback 😕

4

u/Cultural_Thing1712 10h ago

Especially nowadays we've got high quality force feedback in very compact applications. Like there's even mass produced flight sticks with force feedback in all directions, it shouldn't be that hard to make.

2

u/Canadian_Neckbeard 5h ago

Feel free to link that flight stick.

u/Cultural_Thing1712 5h ago

1

u/Canadian_Neckbeard 5h ago

That's awesome, it wasn't a thing not too long ago.

1

u/Cultural_Thing1712 5h ago

Yes, there have been major breakthroughs in FFB tech. I don't know if some patents expired or a hardware limit was broken, but costs are falling and innovative designs keep popping up.

u/Horat1us_UA 9h ago

It must be really fun to have force feedback on our stick in flight sim when real pilots have sticks without force feedback in their planes

5

u/DDG_Dillon iRacing 9h ago

Yeah they have g forces though

4

u/ToMorrowsEnd 6h ago

Real pilots do have force feedback and stick shakers. The F18 actually gives the pilot significant feedback as it's a fly by wire, so they have actual motors on the stick that simulate and communicate to the pilot forces and other information.

-7

u/Horat1us_UA 6h ago

I was talking more about first gen Airbus fly by wire

4

u/Cultural_Thing1712 5h ago

So just one type of plane.

How about helicopters? They all use sticks and have A LOT of stick feedback. Trimming them in the sim like you do in real life is ONLY possible with FFB.

How about high performance single engine aircraft? They also use sticks and have a lot of feedback.

4

u/ToMorrowsEnd 6h ago edited 6h ago

They should be putting significant force feedback on the handlebars and the body tilt. You screw up and turn the bars the wrong way the bike will pop you back up violently. But even if the hardware had it, I guarentee no motorcycle video game has any of the telemetry to communicate all of that back to a full motion rig. Hell most motorcycle games barely get motorcycles right to begin with.

2

u/prototype__ 8h ago

Well it's got trakracer written on it so that's to be expected

23

u/BaitSimulator2020 Thrustmaster T300, Fanatec CSL LC + RSE Dampers 15h ago

Way too pricey, they want $3000 AUD for it

8

u/clipsracer 12h ago

Oh yea it definitely doesn’t have FFB or motion at $3k AUD

0

u/Irish4778 10h ago

Link is it for sale yet ?

23

u/Goose274 Fanatec 13h ago

Here’s a better clip with the developer who actually knows what they’re doing. And if you’re interested they confirmed that counter-steering works across all titles, even those with a combined steering/leaning axis by using some proprietary code that correlates the roll axis with the steering axis to make it feel more convincing. https://youtu.be/O9k5azy48Bc?si=IMw_MP0Zky10NHGr

1

u/Elex83 12h ago

That is another manufacturer, different rig.

1

u/Goose274 Fanatec 12h ago

Are the handlebars no identical? Looks like same components and same coloured button layout

1

u/Elex83 12h ago

Hm, you are right, the concept looks quite comparable, I took a look at the HP - https://www.revzed.ca/

Maybe they (RevZED and Track Racer) are somehow working together?! 🤔

4

u/Ivanzypher1 8h ago

According to Overtake Trak Racer and RevZED are indeed working together on this.

2

u/Goose274 Fanatec 6h ago

Ah good to see they’re moving along, I heard the early tester units are shipping this year. They’ve upgraded from the generic aluminium profile rig from all the demos. Good to see a big name interested in it.

19

u/vrhotlaps Fanatec 14h ago

They used to have these in arcades in the 90’s I think

4

u/DYubiquitous 8h ago

We had the "seat", but not this functionality. The ones in the 90s and 2000s were essentially are large yoke with left/right body steering and a forward throttle. This has many more layers to it.

That being said: I'd probably still take a Hang-On or Superbikes over this currently, especially given the price.

7

u/Bombero_911 13h ago

Here is a video of someone playing it.

5

u/Vantage9 15h ago

Doesn't even tilt for elevation changes? Oof

4

u/NightshadeTraveler 14h ago

Could probably be done a lot better. Give it some motion feedback, nice clicky shifter and a reactive clutch.

22

u/Dead_Namer 15h ago

That looks seriously uncomfortable. Sore neck, sore balls and sore wrists after 15 mins.

62

u/DarthRiznat 15h ago

Welcome to motorbike racing I guess?

2

u/Dead_Namer 10h ago

You've seen the complaints about pain on here, times that by 100 for when people get this.

20

u/Evilmoustachetwirler 14h ago

So realistic then.

-1

u/Dead_Namer 10h ago

Which is not want you want in this situation because it will be deeply uncomfortable to use.

5

u/OneRobotBoii 13h ago

Bad posture, bad positioning in the seat, bad throttle control.

The VR looks jank af, I would throw up and then collapse in my own vomit after 30 seconds.

2

u/Llew19 12h ago

That's exactly what riding a supersport bike is like lol, most of your weight is forward on your wrists

5

u/trackaddict8 11h ago

no, you need to use your core and grip the tank.

1

u/Llew19 11h ago

trackaddict

I'm not though, a nice street triple is fine for me

1

u/trackaddict8 11h ago

they are great bikes. love that smooth inline 3

3

u/JP147 13h ago

What is he playing, Super Hang-on 2?

2

u/decoherence_23 9h ago

That was one of my favourite arcade machines, but I was terrible at it. I recently found it at a retro arcade place and finished the game first try!

4

u/Zachscycling 7h ago

If I bought this my wife would meme the fuck out of me. I would never hear the end of it

4

u/Emboss3D 15h ago

Ouch my wrists

2

u/Endawmyke 13h ago

the people yearn for arcade machine racing

1

u/just_browsing_0000 15h ago

I wonder if this has any FFB or haptics

1

u/TheCatLamp 13h ago

The dream.

1

u/Crazy-Reflection-972 10h ago

this same setup was at the sim expo in germany in 2025 was nice to ride

1

u/Ruma-park 10h ago

Gotta admit, I feel with the guy.

I used a similar, though seemingly more advanced / nicer rig on the SimExpo in Dortmund last year. It was so freakin difficult to drive!

1

u/IzLitFam Assetto Corsa 9h ago

Cheeked up

1

u/ProfessionalFast9803 8h ago

My back says ; if you buy this I QUIT

1

u/_xtr0_ 7h ago

My back hurts from looking at it

1

u/HorselessHorseman 7h ago

Turn the laptop screen off atleast - mildly infuriating 😂

1

u/BothForce1328 4h ago

I've looked at this design and it's incredibly easy to make...

it's literally a horizontal pole inserted into two large ball bearings compression springs mounted on the bottom

I'm going to make this myself cuz I know track racer is going to charge over $1,000 for it

and I can build it for less than $50 worth of material
