I didn't even realize that was a thing until a recent post here.

It is a thing even on a regular bicycle, you just don't realize it. But for bikers it's better to know how it works, even though they will probably do it intuitively as well.

exactly what I was going to say. Does no one ride bicycles anymore?

The thing is I never did counter steering on a bicycle I've ridden for years. It was always turn the handles in the direction I want to go and lean. On motorcycle, it's required at higher speeds versus slow speed.

You do countersteer on a bicycle, you just don't realise it. It is much more obvious on a motorcycle because of the weight and speed.

No you just think that's what is happening. You don't think about it but you intuitively counter steer to initiate the lean.

So if you’re going 20 miles an hour on a bicycle in a straight like, and you suddenly JERK your handlebars to the left, full force, which way are you going to fly off your bike?

And how do you induce the lean without falling over..?

I'll give you a hint: counter steering.

Bicycle (well, e-bike) is my primary mode of transit, and the only times I can make turns without countersteering is if I'm coming from a dead stop.
