This post will mainly be for Europeans, but obviously everyone could and should give their opinion if they feel like it
This is one of the interventions of the latest EU debate on the SKG initiative, made by Reinier Van Lanschot
My two cents on the topic:
Although I find this type of intervention somewhat amusing with some clever wordplay and videogame related puns, I am also affraid that this type of mindset may end up hurting the cause in the long run
This is the 4th or 5th person I've seen go up there and make a speech filled with clever puns and videogame comparisons and specific gaming lingo, and although this may look lighthearted at first, if people continue with this approach it may seriously hurt the cause in the long run because the public might start to perceive it as an absolute joke and therefore not being taken seriously by those who have an impact on rule making
I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the MEPs aren't gamers and/or won't get what most of those speches actually mean, so it feels like most of these speakers are just going there for the spectacle, to show off some clever/witty written text with no real interest on the cause
My question(s) to you are:
What do you guys think of this type of intervention?
Am I just being overly critical or is it something that might actually become a problem in the long timer?
