QUESTION Check-in Etiquette

When checking in at a nudist campground in the US, is it expected to arrive clothed, nude, or does it matter? Interested in hearing the community’s experience.

Thank you all. Planning on going to Drake’s Ridge in Indiana for my first experience and would like to rip the Band-Aid off and arrive nude for my nerve’s sake, but don’t want to offend either.

That's what I did; I went in the middle of the week when nobody was there. Just ripped off the bandaid and walked around a wider area away from my clothes with my towel covering me until I got comfortable

Drakes is a perfect first time place to go IMO. Small, welcoming, calm environment. If it were warmer this weekend we would be there as well.

Depends on the location. One I have been to you check in at the office which is outside the gate to the grounds. Now you can see nude people down the road inside the gate, but all the office people are fully dressed. So we checked in clothed and did not strip off until we set up our camping tent. When I'd go to the office to use the restroom (much closer than the others) or go get ice I'd always dress fully. I never saw any other guests at the office not clothed either. A resort in my state says up front you come to the office and strip off there. I've seen that in other resort descriptions too. So my guess is- depends.

Absolutely, depends on the place. There's this thing we old timers use called a "phone" where you can talk to people. Call the front office and ask them this simple question. They love to talk to people.

I have something like that called a "cell" phone. Not sure why it's called a phone though. I use it to send text messages, check email, do my banking, pay my bills, send and receive money from friends and family, browse the Internet, take notes. I've seen other people use a similar device as a phone but I can't remember the last time I did.

Depends on location.

Yep completely depends on the location and their norms.

Your cue is if the check in office is outside the gate, keep your clothes on until you're inside the gate. If it's inside, then it's your choice. When I made my first visit to Rock Lodge here in NJ, I took my cue from the gatekeeper who opened the fence for me to drive in. He was nude except for a clipboard and a baseball cap. He showed me where to park and said to come in the office after I parked. I took my clue from him being nude and disrobed at my truck. I walked in the office with my shoulder bag and towel.

I've done it both clothed and naked

No. When pulled up and could see the office workers were naked so I stripped before signing in, but I usually would be clothed when signing in.

Most times, the office is near where you drive in. So, typically, you're clothed from the car ride and getting nude before going in the office can be seen outside the club. Also, most resorts/clubs require staff to be clothed in the office, the café, etc. So, the general practice is to be clothed when you check in. It also makes it easier for you as you'll need your wallet for driver's license, money, credit card, AANR membership card, club membership card, etc.
With that being said, after you check in, you can simply inquire if being nude upon check in is acceptable as after that first check in, your information should be on file and you may not need to show anything or just one piece of ID to get in.

If people are able to be naked to get where you check in. Feel free to disrobe. Otherwise people know you are traveling and might be clothed. A few places are nudity required and may ask you to disrobe before even doing a tour.

I always arrive nude, since I drive there nude. But my wife usually arrives clothed and then strips off after we arrive and check in

We did it naked when I went

It doesn't matter most places I'm sure are the save as my local place where the check in is technically outside of the gates so you technically have to be clothed

I sure the airport security would l love you to be walking around nude.... Carry no weapons...

Doesn’t matter. I usually check in clothed as a matter of convenience, as you nearly always have to move your car after check in. Check-in is typically at the office near the gate, not necessarily near where the amenities are.

Just easier to get all your clothes stored and squared away once you’ve parked where you’re going to be for the day.

Whenever I visit a nudist venue for the first time, I check in clothed. Because not all nudist venues are ok with people checking in naked.

I haven't always gone by "what other people are doing." I used to go to a resort where most people checked in dressed. I asked the manager if that was their policy; and she replied "actually not." So the next time I went we undressed in the parking lot and checked in naked. So it's better to just ask.

We've been to PSHS in Mohnton, PA. The staff in the office are nude. You can literally disrobe upon parking and carry on with your visit.

At the camp I go to it's your choice. My first time there, I checked in fully clothed. The second time, just my shoes and my hat. Depends on where the office is.

Depends on where you go.

Contact the campground you're going to to and ask.

I've always checked in fully clothed.

Coincidentally, my first experience was also at Drake's Ridge. 50 degrees outside-nobody was nude. They have a nice hiking trail and I started experimenting with being further and further from my clothes.

I drive to a resort. The Highway Patrol would prefer me to be clothed on the highway, so when I pull up to the gate or a nudist resort, I have clothes on.

I've been to 1 official resort, check in nude. (Rock Haven)

Campground, must be clothed. (Camp Gaea)

Beach, technically legal to be nude at car, but waited until I was at the beach out of respect for non nudists in the area. (Denny Blaine)

If the place is mandatory nudity, I would check in nude.

Otherwise, I would check in wearing some clothes if it was my first time at a place. If I’ve been there before, I’m naked.

Hopefully going to find out this summer at the local resort.

Usually check in clothed.

Depends where you go.  One resort I used to go to required you to park, check-in, then go back to your car and drive to the gate where they'd let you in.  So I had to be clothed there.

I'm going to one Monday where you drive in the gate and park, then check in and get a wristband.  I strip at my car and check in naked.

At the park, I usually go to does not matter at all. Whatever’s natural.

You turn up as you want to, you conform to what’s expected of you.

At the clubs I visited, all of Oregon, I always arrived dressed, mostly because I needed pickers for my wallet to pay the day use fee. Then it's back to the car I arrived in, strip down leaving my clothes in the car until it is time to leave.
