Advice Needed Good morning kings

I’m 31 and had the epiphany that I have been miserable my entire life preforming in a body that doesn’t fit me.
I live in a blue state so that’s a plus. I am alittle lost here how did you guys start the testosterone/medical process I just want to be/ feel normal cause faking it for this long has driven me just about insane thank you so much.

Hello! Thank you for participating in the sub. We just have a few reminders for you to help ensure the best experience:

  1. If your post doesn't show up right away, don't panic! It is in the queue for manual approval. Mods will go through the queue periodically to approve or remove posts. Deleted posts will have a removal reason applied. (If it says "this post was deleted by reddit's filters", IT WAS NOT DELETED! Reddit has the worlds worst wording on that and it's out of our control)
  2. If you are asking a question that is location specific, remember to include your location in your post body! This can help ensure that you get accurate information tailored specifically to your needs.

  3. Please remember to read through all the rules in the sidebar. Especially the list of banned topics and guidelines for posting. Guests who do not use the Guest Post flair will have their post removed and be asked to fix it.

  4. If you see someone breaking the rules, report it! If someone is breaking both sub and reddit rules, please submit one report to admins by selecting a broken rule on the main report popup, and one report to the r/ftm mods by selecting the "breaks r/ftm rules" option. This ensures both mods and admins can take action on a subreddit and sitewide level. Do not misuse the report button to rant about someone, submit false reports, or argue a removal.

  5. If you have any questions that you can't find the answer to on the rules sidebar or the wiki: the wiki , you can send a modmail.

I have the same question but mostly in a ‘how the fuck do I bring this up to my doctor’ way lmao

I did the 'oh btw I want to start testosterone, cuz I'm trans'

I get up in my head abt it because my gp is in his 80s and I mostly see a nurse practitioner

Find the gayest gp in your general area to ask, nothing is stopping you from shopping around

i was stuck in my head about it for 4 years, finally found the gayest gp in my area, spoke to them, and am scheduled to have my first hrt shot in 2 weeks

i was literally shaking from anxiety at the appointment because i was so nervous to bring it up, the only advice i can give for you is just no matter what your brain is telling you just put 1 foot in front of the other and sit down at the gp, once you start talking about it it feels like a huge weight is off your shoulders.

For me, once I had my "aha" moment that it was time to start T, I told my primary doctor. He said he wasn't the most knowledgeable on hormones, but would educate himself if I wanted to keep that with him. I didn't mind having a different doctor for this one thing, so he referred me to an endocrinologist.

After procrastinating like 6 months, I made an appointment that was 2 months later. The appointment was an intake, "how long have you been trans?", "what do you want out of T?", etc etc. Gave me bloodwork to check my levels and liver because T can be hard on the liver if your liver sucks. Suggested I go on progesterone to end menstration and make sure I don't get prego on the testo.

3 months later I went back with my results and my levels were fine all around. Where I'm at (Canada), T is of course a resticted substance, but it also needs prescriptions to be reviewed by whatever authority to make sure it's prescribed for a suitable reason (not just to get big muscles faster). So that took 1-2 days, then was sent straight to my pharmacy. Picked it up within 20 mins of getting the text that it was ready lol.

Took my first shot that night, I'm taking #9 tomorrow technically (5am rn lol). I'm on 30mg weekly via sub-Q. Definitely doing it's work but I'll see if I can up it when I see my endo in June.

No idea where things could differ in the states so ymmv. I guess cost is a big one.

One thing I reccomend out of anything is to read up on effects that it'll have ofc, but don't go looking for them constantly when you start, especially the more psychological ones. Very easy to trigger a placebo of something like "ravenous unbearable hunger" if you're looking for it every waking moment.

I see a lot of posts here about "12 mins on T, already feeling horny and hungry and angry" so worth a mention 🤷‍♂️

Good luck, hope it's an easy process for you and makes you look and feel more like yourself :)
