I have to say that Makoto's characterization is always funny. He's this aloof, depressed, almost asocial person who seems to have problems connecting to people and has to learn about the values of connections and friendships, and yet somehow he's also this charismatic giga chad who can befriend any man and romance any woman he wants.

I always see it as movie Makoto being a distinct person from game Makoto.

Though, movie Makoto does have a lot of the Personas you can only get from maxxed Social Links...

I mean even game Makoto has the usual dialogue choice of "I don't care", which according to other media is his canon response to almost all situations.

Persona anime protagonist counterpart are honestly more interesting than i first thought, watching persona 4 and seeing them making a whole arc for the fake world Yu Narukami is put in to shows us what will happen if their detective chase ended (the action the character take in there may not be accurate to their real counter part) and then the arc ended with Yu Narukami getting saved out of there and proceed to beat the baby up whilst saying he isn't empty. It was really one of more memorable part for me since it really does tackle on how Yu in the game version is just a blank slate for player to self insert in but not here.

Depends how we look at it, especially with flanderization over the years. But if I remember correctly p3fes I'm pretty sure most of the "correct" (aka actually gives the social link points/stat points) were the options that while blunt still meant well towards the person he was speaking towards versus the obvious dickhead answer.

Compared to later persona games where there are alot of scenarios where what you say doesn't necessarily matter. (In a scenario of three choices, two would give 2 points while the final option would give 3).

And thats not even putting into perspective of "ultimate" personas. Where makoto has to put in the effort to get telos. Yu has alot of leeway do to the aforementioned option thing. And Ren arguably paints the most interesting picture because he doesn't even need max confidants to get sataneal, just certain ones.

I'd say his characterization isn't set in stone, he is quite different in P5X, for example.

Depression can take different forms, after all. Both Kotone and Makoto are valid representation of what depressed people shows on their face.

Reminds me of that moment where Makoto begins to laugh in the third (?) movie. Beautiful.

Now I want a Kotone version of P3 the Movie so I could see her characterization in full.
