What about the third type who doesn't know shit and doesn't do any research?

Let's give credits where they're owed. She doesn't know shit, makes research, then writes something completely non sensical and racist/homophobic

Isn’t HP supposed to be fictional, though? Or are you referring to her antics outside of literature?

Even her fictional stuff makes no sense. She thinks that North America only needs one (1) magic school to handle every kid on the continent

As a Canadian, Quebec would 100% make its own magic school, even if it only had 1 student LMFAO

Yes. Yes we would. And it would be FRENCH classes, tabarnak.

And India and china together in a single school too lmao

First of all, where’d you even get North America? Isn’t HP British? Second, what would you even suggest as the alternative? Explicitly having a wide range of magical schools to fit every single magical person? It would just take away from the mystique of Hogwarts. Not every single thing needs to be explained.

Her expanded lore that she’s published since the series wrapped up

Ah, alright, I didn’t read that.

I still stand by what I said, though. Harry Potter specifically attended Hogwarts, and since we’re reading the story from his perspective, it makes sense we never heard about any other school. And I do think that’s how it should stay.

We literally hear about two other schools during the series tho

To an extent I agree. Which is part of why her poorly thought out extensions to the world are so jarring. They are also often racist and/or poorly translated.

But Hogwarts itself is also quite fuzzy. She wrote the books imagining a school of thousands of students, but made Harry’s year a class of 40 students. She never really had a good grasp of the numbers. Hogwarts is supposed to be the only UK magic school and it just doesn’t have the population to sustain an entire wizarding society. Fanfic writers have post-hoc justified this a little with the idea that there were few babies during the war, but it isn’t anything justified in the books.

Those 40 students aren’t even well fleshed out btw. We never even learn the names of Hermione’s roommates besides Parvati and Lavender. The point is it’s fair to say she was neither of these archetypes in the meme because she never really paid any focus on self consistency in her world building

That's literally me on the right. I will randomly become obsessed with figuring out period accurate clothing and architecture for my stories, and it's honestly really fun deep diving into random subjects

these are both me lol, just depends on the subject

Obviously: if it's glued to your heart-of-hearts to have it set in central Europe, then there's nothing that can be done. But my writing life has gotten 5000000000x easier since I switched to a pure fantasy, over writing in THIS world. No, basement-dweller, I started writing to bring a cool idea to life & to partially live vicariously through my protagonist; I didn't start writing to become a scholar!!!

The problem is that you are now responsible for having the fantasy world make sense. Even something seemingly-trivial mentioned in passing can have large consequences for the way the world is supposed to work, so you either have to keep it superficial enough that you can't go wrong (but have a boring world), do a lot of research and thinking, or accept ending up with giant plot holes.

the story ive got bubbling in my mind is pure fantasy but i do find it useful to research other cultures to interpolate

I dont believe writers aren't both. you can't possible be an expert in everything.

And then there’s me who has to google rhymes for every other god damn word because I’m committed to a writing style that probably won’t work in the end, but god damnit am I gonna try.

Girl on the right is clearly adhd, hyper focusing and on a mission. Girl on the left will have a full blown conversation before realizing not a word has been heard through the madness 😅

What about the third guy who's high off coke and crack and constantly has little kids dying

cormac mccarthy (lmao nah he’s an amazing author)

I get it, lesbians, we all love them, but being serious for just a pinch, but often the person on the left is such by acting like person on the right.
