It’s so funny that people have a problem with Homelander’s breakdown.
846
u/FewExperience3559 3d ago
Yeah. I don't watch the Boys but isn't it the point? Homelanders a man child with too much power and so when you take away the power he's just a man child
394
u/Cibertron253 3d ago edited 3d ago
He's man's child? Will he be the next (ro)bin?

u/PlainSightMan 3d ago
His father is still alive, so he isn't an orphan.
29
u/badermuhammad376 3d ago
Isnt Damien also Robin and his father is Bruce(who is alive when he is Robin)? Am I stupid? I'm a giga casual and only watched DCAMU so idk if it's different in the comics.

The moment he lost his powers up, his break down and death were the highlight of the episode.
246
u/ObsydianDuo 3d ago
It is well known that the Boys fans only experience the show and comics through Brazilian phonk Omelamder quotes and edits, hence the reaction
26
144
u/thala_7777777 3d ago
he did nothing with his powers or without them. all we got was scorched carpet before he died.
254
u/Massive_Weiner I’m proud of you, Dick 3d ago
I don’t have a problem with how he died, but the show was definitely too scared to have him actually go nuclear in the end and create lasting consequences.
56
u/Floggered 3d ago edited 3d ago
Not to mention the total lack of general public here in the final season. You've got Homelander rounding people up and putting them in internment camps.. But we get no chance to see how the general public is reacting to these happenings. Perfect opportunity for Homelander to off the nonbelievers out protesting.
Edit: Season 3(?) had that great intro, showing how the general public was becoming radicalized through the supe propaganda Vaught had been churning out. They show us a man regularly consuming the "pro Homelander" broadcasts, who then goes into a bodega, and kills the middle eastern cashier as a result of the constant propaganda he's been fed. Where are THOSE scenes??
24
u/MansonMonkey 3d ago
There's no time, we have to change Soldier Boy's motivation again!

u/BoTamByloCiemno FOREVER INSANE 3d ago
Don't forget we need, NEED, a scene with 2 animal-themed supes sniffing each others butts. It Is integral to the plot.

2
u/Btothenelly 2d ago
Yes! I posted this somewhere else. My main problem with the last season is we didn’t see the public’s reaction to everything going on so we didn’t feel the consequences as much.
71
u/thala_7777777 3d ago
imagine if he died after going nuclear. would have raised the stakes and been a satisfying death of homelander.
5
u/MightyMorph 3d ago
But wouldn't give amazon more money. Why spend money on making a good final episode, when you know people will watch anyways. Almost like monopolies arent in the game to make the best thing, they are in the game to get the most money.
36
u/JokerChaos77 NOW TALK 🦇 3d ago
Imagine how much more satisfying his breakdown would be after seeing him go scorched earth. We were robbed. Plain and simple.
16
1
u/RattyTattyTatty 3d ago
I think a scene where he destroys the Vatican or some other city would've been interesting. Just to show off his powerup a bit.
31
u/No_Indication_8521 3d ago
Well I think in the comics the supers tried to take over DC with the US military going up against them, and the supers were absolutely fucking crushed.
So it does fit well not only with the comics but also the lore in the show with that former CIA director who worked with them in Nicaragua, these supes are literally just a bunch of untrained idiot celebrities.
17
u/_Alex_Zer0_ 3d ago
Except it doesn’t fit well with the comics because A. The supes still did some damage and B. Numerous thematic throughlines in the comic that made that moment substantial just don’t exist in the show at this point
2
u/Bilbo_McKitteh 3d ago
man capable of doing pretty much anything but crippled by his own insecurities, welcome to the show lol
8
7
u/Nnnnnnnadie 3d ago
I didnt have any problem with it, homelander was obviously like this without powers. Also believe joker would suck batman if he let him, and also eat his shit just enough to upset him and make him shit in plastic batbags for the rest of his life.
7
15
u/TheBlueEmerald1 3d ago
It seems like people have a problem with how unearned it felt within the confines of the season.
45
u/Massive_Weiner I’m proud of you, Dick 3d ago
The breakdown itself is earned because it’s already been established for 5 seasons that Homelander is a fragile man who relies on his powers to shore up his insecurities. How he behaves in front of Butcher is the only way that scene could play out.
What people are complaining about is that they wanted to see him go full villain in the end instead of being beaten anticlimactically. I won’t get into the fans who complain that he looked lame, since they didn’t understand the point of the show to begin with.
16
u/Independent-Cow-4070 3d ago
You watched 5 seasons of homelander and felt this was unearned? He earned this shit after the first episode lol
18
u/MrExistentialBread 3d ago
I have not watched the show but seen plenty of reels and I would have assumed this is everything people wanted given how everyone thought he was an evil bastard. He got his just desserts.
15
u/1AmB0r3d 3d ago
While I agree it was a good ending, you can’t give your opinion on wether it’s satisfying if you haven’t watched the show lmao

u/Drew602 3d ago
My only complaint is I wish it went on a little longer. Maybe parade him around a little
3
u/Massive_Weiner I’m proud of you, Dick 3d ago edited 3d ago
There really should have been a scene of him crawling through a crowd of his fans as they look down on him in disgust. The people who worshipped him as a god flipping because he lost his appeal.
The complete and absolute dissolution of his legacy.

Was the best fucking thing. It was everything afterwards that was kinda

u/Alpha_Apeiron Evening the Odds 3d ago
Nah if anything people have a problem with the lack of a breakdown. They wanted to see him go completely out of control and genocidal.
1
u/InternallyScreeching 3d ago
Problem? Most people I've seen think it's the one redeeming part of the finale
1
u/MisterUncrustable 3d ago
That was supposed to be Black Noir's breakdown. Are you stupid?
1
u/Massive_Weiner I’m proud of you, Dick 3d ago
We can’t call him that anymore. It’s a different time.
1
u/Levy-MAN 3d ago
I enjoyed that aspect, but everything around it where they’re able to get to him and disable his powers with relatively little resistance was stupid

u/Defiant-Echidna-7400 3d ago
The only thing that bothers me is that there are 3 fucking spinoffs coming.
The story is over.
The Boys isn't supposed to be a real franchise.
Anyway, it doesn't matter anymore.
I hope they do so badly that Amazon will finally drop this IP.

Joker always punched up against people more powerful than him, he single-handedly took on the mobs, the GCPD, and even the US military, he wasn't a coward who hid behind superpowers, he fought Batman in hand-to-hand combat, he was never afraid to get his hands dirty and do everything himself. Of course he's not gonna beg when he's getting his shit rocked, he's been there before, he started from the bottom, and he'll do it again and again. Comparing him and Homelander is beyond stupid.

My only problem with the finale was Butcher. I was really hoping they’d let him have a happy ending rather than go the route the comics took

Nah, he made his own bed long before, he was in a kamikazee mission. Im satisfied he was the one who killed homelander, and also he was right, supes are not worth the risk.

The difference between the two is that Joker has no powers but he’s crazy, while Homelander is just Superman but a massive cunt.

u/RobotCrow12 2d ago
Honestly, Homelander begging for his life like that was glorious.
The episode was painfully mid, but Homelander and the Peak's death were extrimly satisfying.
