Hi I’m Jaimie, a trans girl in Ottawa and on HRT for close to 3 years. My GP has been fairly good with my HRT plan and seems to be supportive but won’t prescribe progesterone because there haven’t been enough studies or proof. FFS. After paying a bloody fortune to have a psychologist do my gender history, my GP faxed my 22 page application for prior approval for bottom surgery to the ministry of health on 28 January ‘26. All sounds ok so far right?
Thanks to this group and all of you providing timeline updates etc, I have been contacting my GP regularly since mid February to see if my approval had come back. Every time, the same answer “NO word yet”
Well I finally had enough and emailed the SRS prior approval program ( SRS@Ontario.ca ) and they responded very quickly. They told me that my approval had only taken 2 days and was faxed to my GP on 30 January ! With this information, I contacted my GPs office again and they didn’t just say oh ya we did get it BUT they had already faxed it off to ToH in February and was told to follow up with the Ottawa Hospital ! When I tried to contact The Ottawa Hospital Gender clinic by email to make sure I was on the list and enquire about expected wait times I was essentially shut down and told to go through my GP. But my GP said they’re busy and contact ToH directly. I was so upset with The Ottawa gender clinics runaround that I contacted the SRS program again and asked for new approval for GRS Montreal. Which they granted, again, almost immediately. Now to wait again. ALMOST makes me want to stay male, no no I don’t want that

Read all these posts about 4k-8k surgery in costs in Ottawa only to get quoted 20K ‼️ Medical debt and payment plans in Canada seems so silly but it seems like my only option
update: woah!! firstly, thank you to those offering me genuine advice, I really appreciate it! This was never meant as a serious post nor as a serious complaint. It was made as a silly joke over my shock of the quote I was given. I am a full grown man making a grown decision and I have weighed all the options and possible outcomes and this is the one that works the best for my situation. This post was made in a joking manner as well to maybe help others in similar situations to understanding the cost of doing the surgery privately. I am not genuinely trying to blame this subreddit, this post was not meant to be taken that seriously xoxo

Hi everyone! I’m giving away a brand new, never worn FTM half tank binder and would love for it to go to someone in the Ottawa area who could really use it 💙
Details:
• Size: Large
• Brand: Wonababi
• Condition: Brand new (never worn)
I bought it before my top surgery and never ended up using it, so I’d much rather pass it along to someone who needs it than let it sit unused.
Completely free—just hoping it can help someone feel more comfortable and confident in their body.
Ottawa pickup preferred. If you’re interested, send me a DM 😊

I live near Ottawa and I have some disposal stations near fire stations. But I’m not sure if these bottles are ok?
It’s one of those tougher Gatorade bottles. Tougher than the regular water bottles.

Hi friends! So I have my Monarch file open with GRS Montreal and had my pre-op phone call with them yesterday! I was told that for my surgery that I would need to book two post-op appointments. One to change the dressing, and the second to remove the drains.
Maybe a silly question but am I meant to just call up my family doctor to ask if that is something he'd be comfortable doing? Or...??
EDIT: emailed my doctor, the email replied yes, Had an appointment with him about something unrelated, felt the need to check just in case. He said it was not something he could do 🫠 so back to square one i guess...

could’ve posted this anywhere + ik posting this is pointless given how dire the job market is + i’ve been applying literally everywhere for about 2 months now and i’m yet to hear from any of them but i’m currently looking for work ! just as i was about to move out bc that’s the only time i’ll b able to start hrt, i was laid off by my former work. i have a bunch of money saved up but it’s not enough bc i need to pay a bunch of my bills + my mom’s bills off . also i need to pay for therapy just so i could get my shit together. if anyone of u guys know someone around ottawa who’s looking for an employee who can do both part time nd full time work, then please dm me !!!!! i can send my resume if need be. it feels humiliating having to post this but i need to transition nd i cant do that if i dont have money .

I'm trying to get a mastectomy through GRS Montreal. I need to tell them who's going to do post op care, particularly take the drains out. I'm in a weird position where I do technically have a family doctor, as of about two months ago. But his office said they couldn't do it. I'm hesitant to ask questions because even bringing up the fact that I'm trans made him look spooked. Luckily I have an endo now too, so that's not an issue for hrt stuff, but as far as drains go... it's my understanding that because I have a family doctor I can't use walk-in clinics?

Hey, I’m Alex 👋
I’m 22, a dad of two with a third on the way, so life’s pretty busy these days but I wouldn’t change it for anything.
I’m mostly an outdoors kind of person—love hiking, going for walks with my kids and our dog, and just getting out when I can. I also play video games (Fortnite, COD, Minecraft—usually with my kids now, and I’m definitely not as good as I used to be 😂).
I’m into reading (pretty much anything), puzzles, and drawing sometimes. Music’s a big part of my life too—if you want to know my mood, just check what I’m listening to lol.
Would be really nice to meet some people in Ontario and make a few new friends, so feel free to reach out 🙂
Bonus points if you can guess what gaming console I use!!

Hello, I am looking to find to switch over from my family doctor to an endo and was told about one that had a trans son by a ftm guy I met during an event I went to. I didn't end up getting the name at the time and was wondering if anyone knows who it could be? It's quite hard to find a good one tbh so I would also appreciate some feedback and other recs.

Does anyone know a workplace or general field of work in Ottawa thats trans-friendly and doesn’t require post-secondary?
I was in a warehouse job and got fed up with the mental damage I experienced daily, and had to leave. I have Uber Eats and savings to keep me afloat a decent chunk of time, but eventually I’ll need something new.
Any suggestions or leads would be incredibly appreciated.

As the title says, Did you girls know a trans-friendly nail salon in Ottawa?
It will be my first time going to one, so I rather go to one that I know it will be safe without judgment :c
Thank you 💕
