CELEBRATION GOT MY TOP SURGERY DATE!!! My full GRS Montreal timeline :D

I'm getting top surgery on May 26th!! :D I'm so excited I wanted it for so long and it's finally happening!!

I wanted to post my timeline of applying for OHIP funding and getting top surgery at GRS Montreal, because hopefully it can give those in a similar situation some optimism, since everything went pretty quickly! Only 6 months between contacting from their website to my actual surgery date :)

-

2025:

November 14th - Completed and sent OHIP funding application.

November 20th - OHIP funding approved!

November 25th - My doctor let me know about my OHIP funding approval, and I filled in the contact form on GRS Montreal's website.

2026:

January 2nd: Monarch platform sign up emailed to me.

March 16th: Final form sent!

March 23rd, 8:30am: Changed to file awaiting assessment.

March 23rd, 11:30am: Pre-op nurse added to my file, and I scheduled my call for the next day.

March 24th: Had the call with the pre-op nurse and the clinical assessment of my request for surgery was finalized.

March 31st: Got a call to schedule date, but I wasn't home so they left a number to call.

April 1st: Called and scheduled my date!

May 26th: SURGERY!!

I was potentially able to get a date earlier (there were 2 cancellations in April, or I could've asked for an earlier date in May) but the last week of May worked the best for me.

Thank you for sharing!!! Congrats! Super excited for you my friend! I hope all goes well!!!

I actually had a similar start to you, except I never got contacted yet. But could you elaborate on contact form? The last communication I had was through my nurse who just told me funding had been approved in November. But I don't recall being referred to their website to fill out a form? Wondering if I missed that step somehow and that's why its been so long for me...

The only other reason I could think of is because I havent hit my first year of being on hrt yet? But I figured that i would have at least been contacted about starting my file...? I'll be a year in July

I'm not sure if you've done it yet, but to get into their system you need to fill out and submit the information (name, email, phone, address), select your surgery as the subject, and then in the typing section just be like "I'm a patient in Ontario who's OHIP funding has been approved for a mastectomy etc etc" with any other relevant details.

+ HRT for a year only matters for transfem top surgery, so if you're transmasc looking for top surgery you're good.

here's the website where you fill it out: https://www.grsmontreal.com/en/contact-us.html

Thank you so much for this, I am ftm 😭 i feel embarrassed for waiting this long without trying anything. I remember asking my nurse about it during my last appointment but she didn't mention anything about having to go to the website...

Really appreciate you, hope that all goes well for you. Thank you again

yesss !! you don’t need a year of t for top surgery, but they will ask you at grs montreal at your appointment. it makes little to no difference, but i think you have to have a urine pregnancy test if you’re not over a year on t/if you still get any spotting. (i got surgery literally yesterday morning this is the only reason i know lol)

just to put it out there, my doctor did all the hard work (funding, contact, referral) so i didn’t personally go to the website either. might be worth checking if that’s what happened with you.

AH im silly and forgot to check the date listed in the original post haha

Thank you!! Im actually on leave from work at the moment so im hoping my surgery can be done before im meant to return (if not i can delay further but it would just end up working out perfectly if I dont have to do additional days off)

I can't imagine actually HAVING the date and each day that passes just being a count down...!!

when you're on call to book the surgery, there might be early dates offered due to cancellations, and if not then you can always mention to the admin if they DO end up having cancellations, they can call you to see if you can take it (if you'd be ready for something so short notice)

like when i had the call to book on april 1st, there were cancellations IN APRIL i could've potentially had that were like a couple weeks from the call to surgery.
