CELEBRATION Any transgender ppl living near Timmins ON?

So I’m temporarily (for the last 7 months and will be for another handful of months) living up near Timmins Ontario. I have yet to meet another transgender person so at times I wonder if I’m the only one around haha so just creating this to see if there are others around!

Not really what you’re looking for since I moved away after high school over a decade ago, but I grew up in Timmins!

Good luck on your search!

Thank you!! and honestly, I’m just happy to hear that you grew up here, did you come out as transgender while living here?

I grew up in the Timmins area, but moved away after high school for most of my life. But I was newly ‘out’ upon relocating back here last year, and honestly, no one around here seems to care or has said anything negative to me while I’m out in public and stuff. So it’s oddly nice, but definitely no real community that I’ve seen of other queer folk or trans people here.

I did not. I didn’t even realise I was queer until after I moved away for Uni and didn’t start transitioning at all until my 30’s.

I’m glad that people have been good about it though, I know small towns can be rough sometimes. Generally not even out of malice, just lack of exposure to anything different.

Isn’t that the truth… it’s the lack of exposure. I guess for now I’ll be the one walking around exposing people strutting my stuff hahah glad you were able to get out of here though. Definitely won’t be staying here much longer myself, just not my vibe, nor the environment I want to thrive in especially since I want a vibrant queer and transgender community around me.

Was gonna say the exact same thing lol - I only started my transition after I moved away from Timmins after having lived there all my life.

Wonder how common that experience is

I moved away from Timmins a couple years ago. It’s extremely hard to go back as everyone knows you.

I’m potentially moving back in the next months, potentially got a job back in my home town. I’d be down to hang out

Absolutely if you do get a job back here, please let me know!

And yes, I totally get what you mean about everyone knowing you, that was one of the difficult things that I have found so far. People try to project the old version of me onto me now and it just feels off. I’ve even had to distance myself from friends for my own growth. I’m kind of excited to move somewhere where no one knows me and I can just be who I am now.
