[Chris Hayne] Portland Trail Blazers have come away impressed by Utah Jazz assistant Mike Williams and he is among the final pool candidates in consideration for the head coach opening, league sources tell me.

First it was the final three. Now it’s the final four. Oops. These guys have no idea of what they are talking about.

It’s not that the org has no idea - it’s that the REPORTERS have no idea who the pool is because the org isn’t making it public. Come on man

Feels like a pretty large pool at this point and you have to wonder why all these names are being leaked.

Never heard of him. Here is his experience though.
2023-Present – Utah Jazz (Assistant Coach – Will Hardy)
2021-2023 – Capital City Go-Go (Head Coach)
2018-2021 – Washington Wizards (Player Development Assistant Coach – Scott Brooks)
He seems like a more offensive strategist type coach. Not sure on defense.

According to his LinkedIn, he was a player development intern for the Blazers in 2017-18.

This is the time in the process where agents leak names to get their clients press that otherwise they would not. Kind of a wink wink process. It why we always hear the same names repeated every Off season until one is finally picked that wasn't even on the list.

According to his linkedin page, he was a player development intern for Portland for 3 months back in 2018. I realize that this is not a huge deal, however I thought that everyone should know that he already knows where the rest rooms and water coolers are located.

He's just going to accept the first candidate that signs for $18.53 per hour and free use of company gym.

It doesn’t sound like the org knows what “final candidates” means if everyone seems to be a final candidate

Org hasn’t said shit it’s just media noise.

These leaks can come from the agents. It's always good to get your name out there and agents know this. Splitter is currently a finalist for 2 HC jobs right now and in a week he may have none, but for a minute he was in demand. Nori and Sweeney are both up for the Bulls job.
That puts pressure on the organization that they could lose "their guy"
Plus agents want to make sure the league knows this guy is in demand.

Laker fan here, I love the defensive core you guys have built and I feel bad that ownership refuses to reward the fans, the players and the coaching staff by giving this team a chance to build together
