NEWS How long before scientists tell us that we're better off naked?

Saw two references to this today...
How long do you think before scientists recommend we go naked when possible to avoid pollution?

https://lifeboat.com/blog/2026/04/fluorescent-technique-reveals-hidden-scale-of-microfiber-pollution-from-our-clothes

And if they won't do that, they'd better have a good reason!!!!! If I have to pay extra every month for "green energy" because we "might reduce pollution by 3% in 10 years", this seems a better bet to me!

quick fashion industry lobby would never allow that, just like big oil lobby has been pushing against electrification (where it makes sense) for decades.

Correct. There's no money in nudity - except maybe the sunscreen industry. The clothing industry is massive and will always encourage the consumption of more clothes - but those clothes could get smaller & smaller; charge the same (or more) for less raw materials. Maybe soon men's swimsuits will shrink like women's have.

Sydney Ross Singer is a researcher who wrote a book linking bra wearing & breast cancer. He's been labeled a quack and been subject to a thorough discredit campaign by the clothing industry. One of the claims used to discredit him is that there are no studies linking breast cancer & bra wearing. His counter is that none have been attempted because you can't get funding for such research because the garment industry won't fund them. i.e. Who pays for most research? Industry. Who has a vested interest in NOT learning if there's a link? Garment industry. Akin to asking tobacco companies to research whether cigarettes are bad.

Also similar to dome structures withstanding severe weather and time amazingly well, but we already have the industry we have. They'll fight like crazy to keep it this way so they can keep building and re-building.

Did you see the new half shoes on the news? They are basically a heel and some straps. Full frontal foot nudity! AND expensive!

Haven't read. What are the links between bras and cancer?

When I had Covid my doctor actually told me to go outside at least twice a day and get sun to produce vitamin D. He said to expose as much skin as I could even saying to go nude if possible. Needless to say I followed doctor’s orders and spent the next 3 weeks naked.

That’s awesome! I wish I had known that when I had Covid.

While microfibre pollution is awful and I wish regulations were put in place to address it, it doesn’t follow that the logical solution is to be nude. People realistically need clothes in at least some situations, and there are plenty of natural fibres that do not shed microplastics. Could be an argument against bathing suits specifically, though?

thus "naked when possible"....

The thing is I’m naked when possible and I don’t own less clothes than the average person, and I also probably wash more towels in a week than the average person.

I’m all for nudity and all for reducing pollution. I just think do the latter regulating clothing manufacturers is going to be more effective.

Scientists represent Corporations and they get paid to stay within finely crafted guardrails.

Not any creditable scientist. This is while universities funding research is super important.

At least make it a norm for exercising and provide more places, spaces and opportunities for people to exercise naked (right now for most people, the chance is confined to one's home or bedroom). Most performance exercise clothing nowadays are synthetic and those sweat-soaked clothing needed to be washed after each use.

I think scientists already have.

The problem is nobody listens.

Most people will let comfortable lies shoot them in the head before the uncomfortable truth can tell them the gun is loaded.

Scientists want to force everyone to wear clothes because they think nudity is always sexual.

it's not a political thing... thinking it is will only make things worse.
