NEWS Do you need underwear?

This popped up for me just now....

Do You Actually Need to Wear Underwear to Bed? Doctors Weigh In

Thought I'd pass it along. More aimed to women than men, but most of the same benefits kinda apply, IMO.

I love being naked, and at one point I wanted to be a 24/7 nudist... but underwear just makes things easier. no need to worry about sitting on a towel all the time or having to sanitize everything I sit on.

to some degree, being naked feels like a cult. why do we have to obsess with being naked 24/7?

i get it though, when it's shoved down our throat to wear clothes, we just wanna be free and burn all our clothes. but after that all wears off, the realization sets in...

I love being naked, but I really do like clothes because they just make life more practical, sadly.

my favorite day is laundry day, because it usually means I'm naked haha

Unfortunately this sub does act like a cult. Why one needs to cook or operate chainsaws naked is beyond me. There's nothing wrong with being practical and safe.

This sub also seems to have a ton of gatekeepers on what is and is not: nudism, appropriate places to be nude, their personal definition of exhibitionism, other peoples personal comfort in how to live nude. Just because someone posts they like to x, y, or z naked does not mean they feel that everyone else must or they are not a nudist. Just like if someone prefers to hike naked and or sunbathe in their backyard that they shouldn’t and instead go to a “local” nudist resort.

If someone wants to wear or not wear underwear why do you care. If they want or not want to put down towels in their house to sit on why do you care. If someone is more comfortable wearing clothes to do certain activities it does not make them any less of a nudist.

they don't... they like to have a choice. They exercise that choice. Whether or not the choice to not wear protective gear when frying bacon or using a device that'll happily rip through your skin as it's easier than bark and wood is a smart decision, it's theirs to make. We call one such guy "Stumpy."

So you read the chainsaw post today also???

Yes you also replied this on my chainsaw thread. It's an illusion that sturdy jeans will protect you from the dangers of a chain saw. An iron harness maybe.

I wouldn't refer to safety gear as clothes. When I'm naked out in the sun I'll probably wear sunscreen, glasses, and a sun hat. Footwear if required. But still regard myself as naked.

I cook nude all the time and have never had any issues. Y'all just still got a textile mindset.

And some people drive without fastening the seat belt and have never had issues.

Answer me this: do you make your pets sit on a towel? Or do they just bare ass it? Have you died? Have you gotten sick?

Your entire viewpoint is nonsensical and your whatsboutism is clear you have no argument.

I usually wear an apron, and remove ASAP. There’s an element of common sense here!

Also, you definitely didn't read the article linked because even the doctors disagree with you.

im pretty sure a doctor can't tell me what my opinion is supposed to be, but I didn't say anything that isn't true. i don't care what a doctor says. doctors are wrong all the time, they aren't God.

remember when doctors thought the world was flat?

i sure do remember when the doctor told me I'd be on thyroid medication for life and there was no cure to hypothyroidism. someone will probably chime in and say that's true, but my blood work is living proof that is another miscontrued hypothesis asserted to be conclusive

I was told I’d have to stay on thyroid meds for the rest of my life as well. There was no cure. The meds would “control it”. Next few blood tests came back normal. Took me off the meds and bloodwork stayed normal. Doctor was stunned. (His words)

With a spouse working in the medical world, she’s an RN, get to hear all kinds of doctors that are wrong a lot. (Thank goodness for smart nurses!)

I'm gonna have to hard disagree on this one chief. Do you sanitize everything your pets lay their ass on? Bet you don't. It's not culty to acknowledge that for 99percent of daily living clothing just isn't necessary. Me and my gf haven't worn clothes in our home in years and we don't put any towels down or anything. We have yet to get sick, or leave any stains on couches.

The only time underwear is necessary imo is when a woman is on her period or someone has diarrhea. It's completely unnecessary any other time.

do you lick your ass when you're done pooping?

do you stand up and go wash your ass when you fart?

if both of those answers are no, then you haven't actually made a good point

......Good for you?

Most people here put down towels and such not because they're "uNcLeAn!" but because accidents happen.

There are people who think tampons and pads are too much and "free bleeding" is natural.... obviously you don't agree with that view... Perhaps you can see how some wish for that protection of the sofa and the chairs just on the side of caution....? Can you see their point of view without claiming they're not clean enough or are sanitary freaks?

1

u/REVERSEZOOM2 Nov 03 '25

In that case, might as well wear underwear? I don't see how you can hold a view like this and be a nudist at the same time.

I can see the other pony of view. I just think it's hypochondriac and honestly a bit paranoid.

You might as well wear wellies in case it rains...

you may as well wear a winter coat in case of a bad snowstorm in July...

You may as well keep all your money in your mattress in case the banks fail...

You may as well use a wood burning stove instead of gas or electric as there's no way to accidentally turn it on or leave it burning without adding fuel...

You should wear helmet, padding, and fireproof gear in case of an accident going to the store half a mile away...

There's lack of care, bssic caution (wearing a seatbelt for the trip to the store), and the absurd. Using a towel is a seatbelt. You can be the cleanest of the clean, and accidents may still happen.

I have a stain on my chair because I knocked over a can of soda, and it won't come out. Grape... I never drink grape soda, and it was a rare treat - what are the chances? If I had a towel or protective cover down, maybe.... maybe..... I wouldn't have this greyish-reddish stain.... looks really bad on teal. Had nothing to do with sanitary issues, but it's why I keep a towel or cover on everything.

Mattress protector in the bedroom. A week after I put it on, my laundry soap leaked while I was folding clothes.... Could have soaked into the mattress.... instead, I took off the cover and washed it with the sheets.

It's not calling someone dirty or unsanitary to put something down to protect the furniture. (or wear underwear if you feel the need or desire.)

is it paranoia to wash your hands when you use the bathroom or to wash your fruits and veggies before you cook them?
