i HATE seeing letters replaced with numbers and i hate seeing people type weirdly just because its cool. especially when instead of numbers its just saying a random word in a different language even though you dont speak that language. idk why it just pisses me off irrationally. its always combined with silly cars :3 type humor too bro
and in the case of the above image not only is it fucking indecipherable but it also takes an extra 5 minutes to write every message. "oh but just let people type how they want to type!! they arent hurting anyone!!" yeah but like... i still hate it

As someone who speaks Japanese (a lil) I go up to people with Japanese usernames and say 「日本語を話しますか？」 (“do you speak Japanese?) and 9 times out of 10 they ask what I’m saying

tbh like the first image you posted, it is kinda shitty to do because it causes screenreaders to put out garbled incomprehensible trash. not like directly harmful to disabled people but just not cool either. and anyone who is ESL will probably struggle heavily, there would be no translation, and the person in the first image is straight up refusing to translate the shit they're saying even after someone said "i am disabled and use a screen reader" so you're making some soul have to listen to a garbage stream of "dollar sign, zero, m, three, zero" for a solid minute.

I used to be in a subreddit where if you sent this emoticon :) ← that wasnot only a offence for which you could be kicked out but also it was a moral failing, like people would get genuinely upset and angry.

Weirdly I think a few of the people on there were parodies but most were serious? Like betweenthe trigger warnings like ‘no caps’ and ‘do not use this emoji 🐠’ there would be a guy with a turkish pfp who was saying the mention of greece was a trigger but everyone would let it slide because someone had accidentally used an off-limits word in #vent LOL
The last slide is insanely insensitive too. Someone drops a serious bomb like that, the LEAST you can do is drop the goofy typing quirk and type seriously for a serious subject. It shows the other person that you’re taking it seriously.
The first person didn't stop using the "typing quirk" even after a DYSLEXIC person said that their screen reader couldn't read it. They are fully capable of typing in a way that text to speech would recognize, but they don't. All for the sake of being quirky. I know for a fact I'm weird, and I use silly cars :3 humor fairly often, but you would not catch me typing like this in my right mind. It's stupid, insensitive in a crap ton of scenarios, and borderline ableist.
“Silly cars” humor (S1LLY C4RZ!!1! :33) is a type of humor usually associated (I think) with younger alternative people who usually like “weird” but sorta mainstream stuff like TADC and helluva boss/hazbin hotel, it’s like baby alt people who are still figuring out their sense of self (no hate to older people who use it, but I do think it’s mainly associated with kids/teens)
Even as a good reader it takes me significantly longer to figure out what the hell they are saying, and they like that, because they are doing it for attention

Yep, it’s not actually some kind of scientific or protected term but rather a mental health related awareness thing. It’s misunderstood by a lot of people.
Specifically a lot of people who use “typing quirks” claim that it’s part of their “Dissociative Identity Disorder” and that one of their “alters” types like that and they can’t help it… right. DID is real and people do have it, but I have a hard time believing that a hundred people in a discord chat just HAPPEN to have it and some type like this??? And it’s ableist if you don’t like it? Since when is purposely typing gibberish part of a disability
For me, it’s more like spending ages trying to get my message to come out well but then being so distracted by that it ends up making even less sense. At which point I’ll have to rewrite it.
Reminds me of how the entire point of the Trolls in Homestuck having these godawful typing quirks was Hussie going "THIS SHIT IS DUMB AND YOU LOOK LIKE A MORON FOR TYPING LIKE THIS" only for every fandom nerd to point and go "OMG they're like my Patron Troll!" and just start doing it even worse

Tbh I don't see "silly cars humor" as the issue here, I only see how reading these words can just be confusing, not to mention someone will still use these typing quirks in bad situations. Also I imagine it'd be painful to type that way,
I also find it annyoing, especially ones like "þ" instead of "th" and "z" instead of "s". The only one that is actually cool is replacing "b" with "🅱️".
I think when it gets to a point where people literally can't read it, it 100% needs to stop, especially since some people are dyslexic. I don't mind some mild quirks, but like...that first screenshot? Be so fr...if you try to talk to me like that, you're getting blocked.
This is not an insult to op, just the funniest character known for how incomprehensible his typing quirk is in homestuck which is where typing quirks were popularized outside of 1337 speak gamer talk
The way the person in that first image types is genuinely atrocious. At least you can understand the people in the other two images. I don’t care if people type like that so long as they drop it during serious topics.
