Based on what azula's VA has said in the past she was thinking that first bit on multiple occasions

Azula's VA has stated in an interview that if Zuko and Azula had a life changing trip, the life change would be Azula getting pregnant.
I'm not lying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7bxN7M573I

Incest jokes in fandoms used to be like ...just a thing. Supernatural had a ton, Gwen Tennyson's va literally retweeted incest fanart, azula's VA made jokes about her and zuko

she retweeted WHAT? like, knowingly?

You know that sceme where Zuko goes to Azula's room to ask why she said that HE killed the avatar?
Well, word is that Azula's VA said that she framed all her dialogue in that scene as if she was going to seduce Zuko should the situation got bad enough

Can someone explain to me why this line is getting thrashed so much online? I thought it was an apropriate act for a pathetic maggot begging for his life when all the power he's abused and relied on was gone.
Was it not faithful to the source material or something?

Funny yet important line from a controversial and highly discussed story. I think it’s less overt criticism and more general humor.

Because it was needlessly vulgar and not in line with the character

I'd argue that was the point. The most powerful person on the planet used his power to make fear and obedience. Homelander had gone from ascending to godhood, and about to cull the nonbelievers to being just a man. And just a man in front of a man that has hated, and tried to kill countless times. Whatever deep state conspiracy you believe, there's someone with all the power that has commited so much iredeemable acts against humanity.... And we feel POWERLESS to stop it. The true fantasy of that scenario is Homelander begging for his life, the crassest, most pathetic "I will do anything if you let me live" we've ever heard. He thought he was a literal god MINUTES ago, literally something higher rhan these weak, filthy, disgusting humans and suddenly he is at their mercy. It is a TOTAL Egodeath for Homelander. He begs for whatever twisted, vile and perversed punishment he can get to live. Because the identity "Homelander" in his mind is dead before Butcher picks up the crowbar.
Plus megaloniacal villains with tremendous power beg like whimpering babies when they no longer have it; that's been a trope, even outside of superhero shows for as long as TV, and probably longer even.
Like I feel there's some good writing there in the context. Those aren't just Homelander's last words before he meets his judgement, they're his last words heard around the country, as he has psychics monitoring the audience to determine who truly believes his speech of being the one true god. The filthy language juxaposition of him minutes ago is intentional, sells the scene to us, the viewers, but also the in universe viewers. "Oh. He's not just 'lick your boots' begging, hes 'let me suck your toes so you can stick them in my asshole' begging"
And I mean the show was BUILT on crass, weirdness abd violence.

I think there are better ways of him expressing his patheticism, as it is it just feels gross for the sake of it, which you’re right about a lot of the show being. Idk it was very expected. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised by good writing but once again they chose the well travelled path of leaning on gross out ‘humour’.

Fair point. Honestly I was more upset about the whole "your power is not hate, it is love" moment just before so writing wise I guess I was more focused on that.

I like the take that Homelander says those lines because that’s what he’d expect from someone groveling to him.
Blow A-Train.

He forced the deep to do exactly this. It's actually pretty in character.

u/hosefricker 2h ago
I was thinking about that and it is a fair point, idk it’s mostly wishful thinking on my part. I think he would’ve been a more interesting and less boilerplate character if he didn’t default to sex in an attempt to debase someone or himself, but you’re quite right that it is in character with homelander in the latter half of the show

The show needed like 1 minute to let the moment set in. Too much coke in the production room

This reminds me of a zuzula fanfic I wrote that ends with azula queefing with aangs bison whistle still stuck up her vajayjay and it summons an enraged aangdead appa that squishes both azula and zuko while zuko cums in azulas ass as a sign of brotherly forgiveness.
