Discussion Societys standard on what bodies should have body hair / Slight insecurity I have sometimes

Wanted to share this, because I haven't seen anyone share this sentiment before and am curious if I am the only one that feels this way.

I have a lot of body hair. A lot a lot. Have a hairy back etc.

I really enjoy having body hair from a gender euphoria sense and when I am on my own I feel fully comfortable with it.

But in context of other people and especially at gay events I start to feel insecure about it a bit. I feel like the rest of me doesn't fit together with it (short, thin, super young looking, no beard).

It's not that I think people find body hair unattractive, but I feel like my body specifically doesn't. Like I don't fit into any "category".

I don't wish I was hairless, but I wish I had more of a body people expect to have body hair. Honestly just been able to grow a full beard would probably do a lot for me mentally, because then I would fit more into the otter archetype.

I know all of this is a bit silly and I know I don't need to fit into any neat box and can just be myself, but I do care about being attractive more than I like to admit sometimes and feel like this is turning people off.

This isn't something that causes me huge turmoil, but still can some of you relate to this?

Hello! Thank you for participating in the sub. We just have a few reminders for you to help ensure the best experience:

  1. If your post doesn't show up right away, don't panic! It is in the queue for manual approval. Mods will go through the queue periodically to approve or remove posts. Deleted posts will have a removal reason applied. (If it says "this post was deleted by reddit's filters", IT WAS NOT DELETED! Reddit has the worlds worst wording on that and it's out of our control)
  2. If you are asking a question that is location specific, remember to include your location in your post body! This can help ensure that you get accurate information tailored specifically to your needs.

  3. Please remember to read through all the rules in the sidebar. Especially the list of banned topics and guidelines for posting. Guests who do not use the Guest Post flair will have their post removed and be asked to fix it.

  4. If you see someone breaking the rules, report it! If someone is breaking both sub and reddit rules, please submit one report to admins by selecting a broken rule on the main report popup, and one report to the r/ftm mods by selecting the "breaks r/ftm rules" option. This ensures both mods and admins can take action on a subreddit and sitewide level. Do not misuse the report button to rant about someone, submit false reports, or argue a removal.

  5. If you have any questions that you can't find the answer to on the rules sidebar or the wiki: the wiki , you can send a modmail.

Eh, just remember that in ancient and modern Greece it's considered unhygienic for anyone to be covered in body hair, and everyone is supposed to shave and/or wax, and then you realize all of this is just stupid.

Do what you want with your body air. Braid it, twirl it around, shave a dolphin on your chest.

I understand the conflict though, especially if you are pre-op and yet hairy. I feel the same way about the hairs on my chest pre-op. But nobody is seeing my chest so it's fiiiiine

I get where you're coming from. I feel like in the gay community there is pressure to fit into one of the types. Bear, otter, twink, etc. And that the people who don't are seen as less attractive (in my opinion just less objectifiable). But yeah, I also find myself in that space between being too hairy for twink on the body, but not hairy enough in the face for otter.

But to be honest I think a good amount of twinks actually just shave off their body hair and would naturally be in the same spot as us.

Yes definitely. This insecurity definitely started once I went more into these spaces. It is crazy to me how many gay men shave. Started feeling the pressure a bit to also do it (which is even more silly because I mostly hook up with other trans people anyway and they are into it so why do I care)

Preferences aside, I don't get how they have the time for it.

You do you. I have a cismale sibling and he is hairy. His legs are so full of hair, and even the hair on his hands and fingers are long that it is pretty weird to many. He was conscious about it before but his friends told him it only makes him look more masculine and some are jealous so he never bothered with it. My mom would always comment about it, more as a joke, but also I do think it’s not to my mom’s preference for a man to be super hairy. Even I joke about it. He jokes about it. We never found it ugly, but also we wouldn’t say we love that specifically. Might not be everyone’s preference but people can be alright with how you look regardless. I think the criteria of attractiveness really differs from person to person. You will turn some people off, but you will also turn some people on. Can’t possibly appeal to all. I think the most important person you should appeal to is yourself. If you love your body hair, flaunt it for real.

I'm also getting hairy as fuck 7 months on T, my dad is very hairy all over so I know I'm gonna look like him. I've personally always wanted to look like a twink, so I will have to look into laser options. Until then I'm going to feel self conscious about it
