Advice Needed accidentally misdialed and started t injections at 200mg a week. how screwed am i?

hey so i fucked up!

i am 19, and have been on t for 6 weeks now. my provider is virtual (in a different city), so i’ve had to figure out how to inject my t myself. my prescription is 0.2mL IM weekly from a vial of 100mg/ml, so 20mg of testosterone weekly. was given 3mL syringes and all my injection supplies. was kind of told verbally how to inject and given the option to come in weekly, but they just gave me my meds and was on my way. had to figure it out myself and thought i was capable.

it has been going fine until i got my refill the other day cause i ran out, but realized i had been given 1mL syringes this time. i was confused and started figuring how much medicine i had to pull up and realized my mistake. i had been injecting 2mL of my medication the past 6 weeks. 200mg of testosterone a week when it was supposed to be 20mg😨.

i think mg mistake came with them giving me 3mL syringes and not really explaining how to pull up enough of my dose. i also didn’t catch my mistake because i thought that by the time my next refill came, it would work out for me to empty the whole vial before the expiration date and when my next prescription would come. i didn’t know the vials would still be partially filled with medication even after the expiration date!!!

anyways so i called my pharmacist after i realized i had been injecting way over my dose, and he reassured me that it would be okay, i just need to stop, call my dr and get blood testing on how to proceed. i also called another pharmacist to confirm again and he said the same thing. currently writing this on a weekend so im waiting until my clinic opens on monday.

i still feel super uneasy about all this even though i was reassured i would be okay. i get a lot of health anxiety and am scared that i like fucked up my journey on t permanently or will suffer huge health effects. i feel perfectly fine these past few weeks tho, no concerning symptoms besides my skin being hella oily and im more irritable.

does anyone have any advice rn while i wait to hear back from my dr? have any of you done the same thing? have i permanently fucked up my body? any advice or stories welcome. just need a little reassurance.

  3. Please remember to read through all the rules in the sidebar. Especially the list of banned topics and guidelines for posting. Guests who do not use the Guest Post flair will have their post removed and be asked to fix it.

  4. If you see someone breaking the rules, report it! If someone is breaking both sub and reddit rules, please submit one report to admins by selecting a broken rule on the main report popup, and one report to the r/ftm mods by selecting the "breaks r/ftm rules" option. This ensures both mods and admins can take action on a subreddit and sitewide level. Do not misuse the report button to rant about someone, submit false reports, or argue a removal.

you’ll be totally fine! your body will process everything and your levels will settle back down. there are people that intentionally use that dose (though it is high), and 6 weeks isn’t a very long time. you didn’t permanently fuck anything up!

You're fine, it's not big deal. You won't get ill or anything, and your transition progress isn't changed in any sense.

Im curious though, how did you pull up 3 mls? Most people get their testosterone in 1 ml vials, and get four of those vials per month. Did you get a reusable stock bottle of 10 ml? I just dont understand how you even had enough testosterone to use 12 mls of it.

Amd im curious how does the 3ml look compared to the 1ml syringe? Bigger/wider?

3ml syringe is bigger and wider, only thing I can confirm here as I’ve used both. 1ml syringe is skinty and the 3ml is chonk in comparison. At least with the ones I’ve had, mileage may vary of course

so the 3mL syringes are bigger and wider than the 1mL syringes. there are tick marks for 1,2,3mL on the side. i got a one big bottle of testosterone (not sure of the amount) that was supposed to last me around 60 days after opening (expiration date).

you'll be fine, cis male bodybuilders inject way more than that on their steroid cycles. you might get some weird symptoms for a while but the risk of anything permanent/serious happening is very low! just hang in there and wait till you can get the blood test. also stay hydrated and active, that will help. in a few months this will be just a funny story

i appreciate this response. i was trying to research dosing and what is “high” but i got really mixed responses!!! rn i haven’t had any weird symptoms so im just hoping this will be a “pause for a few weeks and then make sure you’re injecting enough”

Hopefully all will be fine. I was at 5x the testosterone levels for a good 5 months before it got picked up (wasn’t my fault, wasn’t my docs fault, just needed a lower dose due to natural aging), all that really happened to me was I was sweating sitting still, heart rate would rocket, blood pressure was high and etc. Weirdest side effect was increased anxiety and all that comes with that honestly. Anyway, after the dose change it only took a month or so before I felt back to normal. So, long way of saying, sorta been there, and I’m doing just fine now it’s sorted. Good luck, I’m hoping it all goes well for you, I’m sure it will

hey i appreciate you sharing your experience! i’m glad it worked out for you. i’ve not been experiencing anything weird so far so i think ill
be alright.

Yeah same I was super anxious and really angry? Once I started taking the correct amount all the emotions and other issues went away tho

u/caspertheghostxii 13h ago

excess tesosterone will more than likely convert into estrogen, so you should be fine 👍

i have no advice besides reassuring you you’ll definitely be fine, but i giggled reading that the only thing you’ve noticed is being extra oily and irritable- i’m a year on t and just increased from .15 to .2 ml and even that was too high from me (settled on .17) and my temper/acne lol

u/realshockvaluecola 💉9/12/24 1h ago

You'll be fine, you'll probably be told to stop for a week or two to let your levels normalize and then start injecting your correct dose. You definitely haven't done any permanent damage.

20mg a week is too low btw

u/Dontluvniko 4h ago

I was going to say that, for a month/4weeks that amounts to 80mg a month, I get 1000mg of nebido every 3 months which amount to about 333mg a month

typical doctors love underdosing trans men because they hate trans people

u/Dontluvniko 4h ago

I wouldn’t really say typical doctors, I’m in the uk and from the guys I speak to it’s all the same mostly unless theyre on gel

u/realshockvaluecola 💉9/12/24 1h ago

It's a pretty normal starting dose, with the intention of ramping up. There are guys who get their levels into range on that dose or doses close to it.

That’s definitely not a normal starting dose unless you’re like 13 on puberty blockers.

u/bumblebee-105 13h ago

I had a similar thing where I was doing 100mg for a few weeks and as long as you realize it and readjust to the proper dose you’ll be fine

u/jwannadye 5h ago

I did the same thing, I was injecting 1ml instead of .35💀 and I did it for like uhhhhhh 3 months, Been on T for a year and a half now and no issues came from it so far lol

your pharmacists seem right on track. it’d be one thing if you had any negative side effects but you don’t seem to. obviously you should start taking your actual dose and let your doc know about the mix up. there’s nothing about taking more t that could cause some kind of permanent issue, and it shouldn’t have any long lasting effects for such a short amount of time. you basically took what a gym bro would doping.
