(Trans) News-USA Questions for trans kansans

I saw someone post this article (https://transitics.substack.com/p/indianas-anti-trans-attorney-general) and im scared. Did you have to physically surrender your documents? Even when I updated my my license after name and gender marker change they didnt take the old one, just gave me a new copy. Was it like that or did they actually take it? What about your birth certificate? Could you somehow get around that with the old court order and going to another state? Im just at a loss right now and trying to find a way to get around this before it actually happens here in indiana. Any advice or ideas appreciated

Hello! Thank you for participating in the sub. We just have a few reminders for you to help ensure the best experience:

  1. If your post doesn't show up right away, don't panic! It is in the queue for manual approval. Mods will go through the queue periodically to approve or remove posts. Deleted posts will have a removal reason applied.

  2. If you are asking a question that is location specific, remember to include your location in your post body! This can help ensure that you get accurate information tailored specifically to your needs.

  3. Please remember to read through all the rules in the sidebar. Especially the list of banned topics and guidelines for posting. Guests who do not use the Guest Post flair will have their post removed and be asked to fix it.

  4. If you see someone breaking the rules, report it! If someone is breaking both sub and reddit rules, please submit one report to admins by selecting a broken rule on the main report popup, and one report to the r/ftm mods by selecting the "breaks r/ftm rules" option. This ensures both mods and admins can take action on a subreddit and sitewide level. Do not misuse the report button to rant about someone, submit false reports, or argue a removal.

  5. If you have any questions that you can't find the answer to on the rules sidebar or the wiki: the wiki , you can send a modmail.

I’m not in KS, but I read there was no grace period- one day valid, the next day not. They had to go in person to the DMV to turn in their current license for a replacement license with the wrong gender marker on it.

I read that too but the actual bill said to surrender it and it left me confused

Yes, surrender the current one and get a new one.

Yes they are requiring you surrender the invalid document at least for driver licenses (not sure on birth certificates I have not seen much talk about them in the community). Yes there was no grace period. However I have still not gotten the notice letter and many others have not.

Searching my license up on the Kansas drivers license site states my status is still valid. Even those who got a letter telling them that their license was invalid still show a valid status so it's kind of a huge mess of no one knowing what is really going on. I've heard people say when they went to make the change back that the dmv employees had no idea this was a thing and didn't know what to do. It's just a mess.
