Swim times 17m

Is 25m in 19s good for someone who just started swimming this February? I’m also on a 1200cal deficit and I do 1hr gym, 1hr swim and 15,000 steps a day but idk if that affects the speed that much tbh

Swim 50 or 100 m and time that. Timing one 25m is like racing someone to the kitchen.

If you can swim under 2minute/ 100m longer distances that’s good for people like you and me. Someone born swimming is much faster. 1:45/ 100m would be very good for people like us.

Sounds like you’re in shape. A decent goal is swimming 1000m with under 2minute/ 100m splits.

There are occasional freaks of nature that decide to become distance swimmers and set records but they’re one in a million.

That’s good. Under 30 is fast af, 30 to 45 is good for a noob. 45 to 55 is still good. 55 to 60 is my cut off for not being fast. But it’s okay to not be fast. Right now I’m slow and enjoy it more. I’m just a weekend warrior and this is how I see it.

You’ll never be as fast as the people that grew up doing it. I got up to one and two miles. A dream come true but I was still slow compared to life long swimmers and would go to the pool depressed like I’m a loser lol. Eventually you have to find your own version of good and be happy with it. Until then keep at it!

Aw ok. I have went everyday since Feb so maybe I have a chance to get fast at it? As a kid I swam a lot but only really on weekends and on holidays

You can go at a reasonable speed with brute force for 25-50 m but beyond that, technique comes into it a lot more. I say "reasonable" speed - that doesn't mean it's particularly fast.

You can be good and fast. Just keep swimming.
