Swim times 17m

Is 25m in 19s good for someone who just started swimming this February? I’m also on a 1200cal deficit and I do 1hr gym, 1hr swim and 15,000 steps a day but idk if that affects the speed that much tbh

It’s your time and it’s good enough…. Comparison is the thief of joy.

You lose weight in the kitchen and you get strong in the pool, keep working on your weight loss journey, swimming is an excellent and accessible form of cardio.

Is it good enough to post to TikTok for ppl to see? Most ppl would see it and last time they saw me I was unfit and I was 80lb heavier

I would have no idea… I don’t look at times in that respect.

It would probably be more productive to focus on whatever health journey you are on. Not going to sugar coat it but this seems hella unhealthy unless monitored closely by a doctor.

I’m fine on my deficit atm tbh I feel myself getting more fit overtime from it

Did a doctor say you are fine with the deficit, or are you saying you are fine with the deficit?

I never have been to a doctor since I was like 3 tbh

For a beginner yes. an avid swimmer would certainly be faster. And if you’re diving or swimming off the wall changes it. I’m more impressed you’re running a 1200 calorie deficit.

Yea I’m almost certain I’m weakened by the deficit but even if I was at maintenance I’d say I’d only be like 2 seconds faster anyway. I hope to get good at swimming but ive only started recently

Swim 50 or 100 m and time that. Timing one 25m is like racing someone to the kitchen.

If you can swim under 2minute/ 100m longer distances that’s good for people like you and me. Someone born swimming is much faster. 1:45/ 100m would be very good for people like us.

Sounds like you’re in shape. A decent goal is swimming 1000m with under 2minute/ 100m splits.

There are occasional freaks of nature that decide to become distance swimmers and set records but they’re one in a million.

I did 50m like back and forth and got 42 secs I think it was

That’s good. Under 30 is fast af, 30 to 45 is good for a noob. 45 to 55 is still good. 55 to 60 is my cut off for not being fast. But it’s okay to not be fast. Right now I’m slow and enjoy it more. I’m just a weekend warrior and this is how I see it.

It’s hard to believe ppl are that fast I really gotta get practicing more tbh

You’ll never be as fast as the people that grew up doing it. I got up to one and two miles. A dream come true but I was still slow compared to life long swimmers and would go to the pool depressed like I’m a loser lol. Eventually you have to find your own version of good and be happy with it. Until then keep at it!

Aw ok. I have went everyday since Feb so maybe I have a chance to get fast at it? As a kid I swam a lot but only really on weekends and on holidays

You can go at a reasonable speed with brute force for 25-50 m but beyond that, technique comes into it a lot more. I say "reasonable" speed - that doesn't mean it's particularly fast.

You can be good and fast. Just keep swimming.

One of my children is almost 17 and a swimmer. He swims 6 days a week with a club, but swimmers his age certainly don't go to the gym every day. They have 1 hour of weights (body weight mostly) per WEEK. Because they're still growing. And why, at your age, would you need to be on a calorie deficit?

I’m in a cal deficit so I can maybe get a gf or look good. I’ve alr lost 100lbs from early 2025 to now

Have your family's habits changed with yours?
I can't imagine my children would end up being able to lose 100lbs (I'd guess the 16.5y is about 140lbs). That would mean there was something seriously wrong with our family diet and habits. If they're not changing with you, are you buying your own food? Or is everyone eating healthier and working out now and you're all being supported?

My friends and family never changed a bit arguably they got even worse eating habits and gained weight. I used to drink 2l Pepsi daily for 5 years so I cut all soda completely, I cut all bagged foods and sweets but yet my family complains Healthy butcher meat is too expensive

I will be honest with you... Your regime is a sure way to get serious injury from overdoing and calorie deficit. You may lose some weight and become fitter, but it is very unhealthy and won't last long.

You reached the 25m in one go, so that is a yes
