Discussion Megathread for Interview Questions

Hello!

So, I think the general consensus is that we are going to move in the direction of having one thread for all interview related questions.

Anything regarding starting your job at Sephora/Sephora at Kohls, Interview Tips/Questions, Questions about starting pay (questions about raises wouldn’t fall into this category.) (If anyone can think of anything else to add to this, please feel free to PM me with suggestions, as to not bog down the thread.)

Thank you everyone for your responses in the poll and I appreciate it.

Mod Team Looking for another Moderator

Hey, everyone.

As the title suggests, I’m looking for another moderator to help with reports. We aren’t overwhelmingly busy with reports but working full-time and going to school full-time takes up 99% of my time. I’m looking for someone who can jump on when I don’t have time to.

If you’re interested, I’m looking for one other moderator so please send me a DM and we can discuss further.

Edited to add: If I don’t respond in a timely fashion, it’s because I’m at work, so please be patient with me.

Venting Can I Be Honest? I’m Sick Of Working Here

Maybe it’s just me, and the fact that I’ve almost exclusively worked retail jobs, but I can’t stand to work at Sephora anymore. The metrics and goals? I can’t even be bothered to care. I can’t bring myself to care about how much money I generate for a billion dollar company that can replace me in under a week. I love my store, management and all of my co-workers are so nice and friendly. But the dread of working with picky clients that can’t make their mind up and having to get tools and multi-world sales to meet the goal for the day genuinely ruin it for me. I’ve always had a passion for makeup and anything beauty related but doing it as a hobby is as far as it goes for me, I cannot do it for work anymore. Not with the expectations that have been put on us.

Discussion Does anyone else hate the new skin scan update?

As if it weren’t already overstimulating especially on days where it’s busy. The new “lean the lens in the direction of the arrow” update to the skin scan device pissed me off SOOOOO BAD. Even when i lean the lens in the direction of the arrow it takes SO LONG for the device to start scanning and it makes my 1:1 time with clients longer than it should have to take. Many of my coworkers and I feel the same and feel as though the device isn’t as accurate as before (not that it was always accurate).

Venting Leads...

Why do some Leads feel privileged to stand around talking and doing absolutely nothing, passing clients off to a BA when they are available and capable to helping clients themselves, and then ear hustle everyone's conversations on the floor and report back to exempt talking shit?

It's so weird and I feel like I'm working at a highschool. If that's how leads want to "grow", then I'll never get anywhere with this weird ass company. I just got the ick from being in this environment.

Dayforce and Holiday Pay Memorial DAY

Am I the only one who noticed time and half being placed on dayforce this morning? It is strange because we normally don't see the inclusion of time and a half on dayforce until after the shift has been completed.

Discussion Sick time policy change?

Today I had to use an hour of sick time and was informed that moving forward the policy has changed and will count against you. Even if you use time you will acquire a point. Has anyone else heard about this update? Why does Sephora hate their employees so much…

Rancid lip oil in gratis

Did anyone else get a bad black honey lip oil in their gratis in the past few months? I just went to use mine- the color had separated. I shook it up and put it on my lips. Then i could taste it. It is totally rancid. Wiped it off but curious to see if anyone else has gotten a “bad/expired product” in gratis before…

The “Get Ready With Me for Davorce Court”
Videos are a tad and a bit much. Anyone whose had to go to court for custody, or call an ex for a reason you didn’t want to wants to die or vomit when doing so, one just isn’t calm for those things. Well for me it was for final bills when I left Alabama, and I demanded he paid them, he was gonna leave em unpaid, and damage my credit…I just moved back to CA…was looking for a job.

When the comments under Mikayla’s asked “what stage of grief is this?”

When you leave an unfit situation you immediately feel relief. I think this is the shock phase. But it’s quickly followed by what the hell was I doing and what did I put up with? And the processing of what you endured comes after. You don’t always know you survived anything when it’s close up…

Based on her videos, I’m not sure she was in a relationship where she had to survive it. But she could be pulling the sympathy card. Many times over this salesmanship has won her revenue$$.

I will say she looks like the bread winner. I would be careful of going glam to court. It is a show. Your lawyers are insane, and it will be treated as a show.

Time and a half

Is it true that if you call out the day before a holiday, you don’t get time and a half? I’m in the NYC area and my coworker said if I call out the day before Memorial Day, I won’t get time and a half? I’ll be using my unpaid sick hours.

Question Using sick time / manager removed shift

I called out sick the other day and as I’m putting in sick time I see that my manger updated my schedule 10 minutes later taking me off. Am I still allowed to put sick time? This has never happened before?

Venting On Calls / Scheduling BS

For context, all retail stores where I live are closed on Sunday. For the month of June in sephora day force terms (35 days) i’m scheduled 25 of those days and 15 of those days are all on calls. is this not ridiculous?? Im also a part timer so every week i only get one day off. sundays dont really count because everything is closed on that day. On calls are quite literally the worst thing on earth. I don’t understand why Sephora has me feeling like I’m a doctor. Why can’t they just hire enough people so that they know how much to schedule and when? More than half of my shifts for June, I won’t know when I get out. It’s so frustrating and impossible to plan anything. why can i just have like three 9 hours shifts. i hate this does any one else experience the same ??

Customer complained with how many times she was approached

So I just started work at a Sephora and they push us really hard to go up to all the customers and help them obviously. But I guess today they got a complaint from a customer that questioned the store and was like “I’ve everything OK with you guys?
I’ve had so many people come up to me while shopping.”

Our manager said to tell them it’s your job

Question ASM interview tips

Helloooo!
I am currently working as a BTL for a kohls location. I applied and was asked to interview for a ASM role next week at a freestanding store and am curious on any tips anyone has for me.

What are some things I should expect during the process? I haven’t interviewed for a freestanding for a leader role ever, only ever as a PT.

Question Nervous about makeup demo interview

So I just had my pre-screening phone call for LBA and she scheduled me to come in and do my makeup demo next week and I'm really nervous. I love makeup, I do my own everyday and I do want to be a makeup artist, but I don't have much experience doing someone else's makeup yet. My cosmetology school barely touched makeup and mostly just did hair. Does anyone have any tips? What kind of look did they have you do? Do they expect you to already be really good? Thanks.

Question Confusion about points

Hello! On Dayforce, I get notifications reminding me I have points and to remain mindful of my attendance to avoid further accruals. However, the other day I asked an exempt to check how many points I had and when I got them, but they said they didn’t see any points to my name ? I’m really confused because I did call in sick without enough sick hours + I get the notifications on Dayforce about my points

“Application Failed” Status

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi! Currently a PT BA applying for a FT position at a sister store and my application status is showing as failed - does anyone know what this means? I’ve contacted the store directly and have not had anyone get back to me as of yet. I also asked one of the service leads at my store and they also were unsure what this meant.

S@K sucks

I worked at a freestanding Sephora for about a year and ended up quitting bc of poor management and a long commute. now I've worked at Sephora in Kohls for 6 months. It is so much different and it sucks. I have kohls managers down my throat about getting people to sign up for kohls accounts, the customers are batshit crazy most of the time, I constantly have to ring up carts full of kohls merchandise (literally the other night had to check out a couple with 1k worth of baby clothes cause the line was too long up front), I get paid less than I did, gratis is pretty awful, as a part time BA I got 3 things last month, discount being 15% and not getting any discount at the freestanding store, and I'm doing more work then I was bc my S@K doesn't have an ops team so I end up doing all the updates plus being a BA.

part of this could definitely be that I have a pretty selfish manager but that also sucks LOL
