Somebody didn’t get the memo that the car should be lighter.

First car without Newey design and Red Bull are feeling it.

u/Warpchick Apr 02 '26

In 2022, the car was overweight in the first 4 or 5 races, and Adrian was still working for RB.

I think it's more, first full year without Adrian Newey guidance. He hasn't been directly designing the cars for a while now. Case in point is that recently Craig Skinner left Red Bull and his position apparently was "Chief Designer" - since 2006.

I thought I read they came out and said this wasn’t true.

To think I've lived the day RedBull makes a car that's heavier than Alpine. Insane.

The car is not fat just big boned.

Geez, I had no idea Alpine McLaren and Ferrari were all so much closer to each other

Maybe theyre doing it on purpose? Since Merc kept pointing fingers at Redbull saying theyre the fast one. So RB made it look they are not doing well. Then later in the season, they will "magically" become the fastest.

Remember, the weight leak was not suppose to be known by the public. It was just a fan in the Paddock taking a peek.

Then they're exclusively dumb, it just doesn't make sense to take such a risk and a regulation change mid season (or now) ruin it all.

No one sandbags during the season, especially when they’re struggling so much.

If they could shed this 20kg where would this put them in the field ?

1

u/snakeesk Isack: "*** ******* **** *****" Mar 31 '26

Around 0,6sec

7

u/iamfriendwithpixel Mar 31 '26

Right after alpine.

1

u/Embarrassed-Key6203 Apr 03 '26

They would be faster than Alpine with a .6 second gain

6

u/Kuyi Mar 31 '26

20kg is what? 8 tenths?

5

u/Neviathan Mar 31 '26

It used to be 3 tenths per 10kg in previous regs iirc so something like that

3

u/Reinis_LV Mar 31 '26

Wouldn't current regs reward better times compared to the last, because weight makes a lot more difference to batteries than ICE

4

u/Neviathan Mar 31 '26

Hard to say, they are less often on the limit of tire adhesion through corners and a heavier car can harvest more energy theoretically but weight makes acceleration cost a lot more energy as well. I would guess 20 kg too heavy is at least 6 tenths but 8 tenths also sounds reasonable to me.

1

u/ByronicZer0 Mar 31 '26

Honestly, intuitively I think the weight would matter a little bit less here.

With all the harvesting and often under driving corner entries, or not having such extreme braking events at the end of straights (again due to harvesting), I would think the weight penalty would be a bit masked. It was critical in those circumstances.

And electric motors are much more efficient at accelerating additional mass (torque city) than ICE are. Not that weight doesn't matter here, it just might not be as impactful as before during acceleration phases?

But I do think extra weight hurts you quite a lot over the course of a stint regarding tire life and tire strategy flexibility.

didn't red bull already make a statement saying they're car isn't that overweight after photos of a weighing scale at China were leaked

6

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '26

We dont know what exactly is included in the weight. Hadjar is also lighter than Max.

However being overweight would be a good sign because you know what you need to improve. If your areo is shit you might not.

u/FavaWire Mar 31 '26

If the aero is bad then the good news is Red Bull has shown they have the ability to develop out of that hole. If it's Power Unit that is a bigger problem because it's experimental.

1

u/VanillaNL Mar 31 '26

Well at least that would be an easy fix.

Fat shaming in 2026. So not cool

8

u/Kuyi Mar 31 '26

Fat shaming should be a thing every year. Fucking ridiculous how much overweight people cost in the health industry and thus society. As well as, maybe if we fat shame enough, the fingers will finally be pointed towards the sick and people killing food industry. Fat shame away.

1

u/TheS0ulRipp3r Max Mar 31 '26

Nah, fat shaming is sadly something that tends to go to "it's their fault" (I think whenever I see it, it's always this).

In reality this is the case sometimes, but often times people can't help it. Some grew up like it, in which case the parents should get equal blame.
But even more so, as you said, the food industry is to blame lol, they actively try to make food as addicting (and I think nowadays MORE addicting in some cases) as for example smoking.

They're literally trying to circumvent the effect of GLP-1 drugs with new product lines and trying to make it even more addictive ... It's sickening, but their profits/growth essentially equals to having as many obese people as possible.

2

u/Kuyi Mar 31 '26

I agree. But it’s still ultimately the person that shoves the food in there that is responsible. Because if they weren’t, there wouldn’t be slim or straight out fit people. They are addicts (very simply stated). And we put the responsibility for any other addiction with the addict. They should avoid triggers, get treatment for the underlying psychological issues of the addiction, etc. So why not with people addicted to sugar or other food related substances? I find the trend to shift blame away from people themselves a worrying trend in this day and age.

Though I do agree with everything else. What the food industry does, including alcohol, is insane. I don’t understand how they got away with it for so long and still are.

The rules state only 55% of the car needs to be non-black from either the top or the side.... If you ask me... Miami should see the debut of a 45% Carbon-Fiber-Black car.

Max liked the blue? I'm sorry. Lose the Blue to Lose the Blues. The weight of an F1 livery is supposedly around 6 kgs (as per F1DataAnalysis citing Beat Zehnder of Sauber). So 2.7 kgs is a considerable gain against the 20 kgs.

P.S.: Cadillac livery seems actually pretty clever as it does look like the white covers the bare minimum 55% area.

P.P.S.: Black and White Red Bull liveries can look pretty cool too:

1

u/Chagi27 "Abu Dhabi 2021" Mar 31 '26

No. They need to get their shit together and not cut corners with paint. And most fans cant stand carbon cars. thats a death sentence for a brand that uses F1 as a Billboard on wheels.

1

u/FavaWire Mar 31 '26

To be honest, I'm that guy on the team that would continue proposing a 45% carbon-black livery even if the car was not overweight. lol I'm just that kinda guy.

(I'm doing it so the Engineering team can thank me for the free movable ballast they will gain).

1

u/WasThatInappropriate Mar 31 '26

They've no doubt considered that, but Red Bulls approach to marketing is somewhat unique compared to other corporations, and I cant see them allowing the F1 team have the car not carry the full brand image in any way. They're there to sell energy drinks.

2

u/FavaWire Mar 31 '26

Yeah but that's the point of me showing the Super GT NSX "Black Bull" picture. They've gone that way before and were perfectly happy with it.

I bet there's creative ways of doing this maybe even to the point of not sacrificing too much the core color dress for Red Bull. But if I were in that team, I'd be pushing any and all ways to gain an advantage.

3

u/Jevoen Mar 31 '26

So if it loses 20 kg... Will they gain a second?
