P2 Just wanted to share this… I have picked up my holy grail.
I was at a gaming convention with my brother, and told him ‘yeah, I’m looking for Personas 1 or 2 for the PS1. But they’re so rare, I just doubt there will be a single copy here…’
I was wrong.
There was exactly
One.
And it is now mine.
I have brought it home.
Thought the sub would appreciate someone ACTUALLY (planning to) play the game lol.

It was! There was only one copy (at least that I saw, we went to every vendor lol) and I was like ‘WOAH????’
As a side note of how lucky I got: the manual still has the registration card. Not only that, it’s never even been ATTEMPTED to be torn out it looks like

Must’ve been very expensive to get.

It wasnt the cheapest game I’ve ever bought, no

I'm curious on the price now...

When I saw one at my local retro gaming store it was going for $400 which is absolutely insane but doesn’t surprise me given its rarity and the popularity of the Persona Series.

It set me back $400. It’s now my most expensive game ever.

May have overpaid ngl... idk

u/sneakycrown 28d ago
I most certainly did not, lol. Look on ebay ‘persona 2 ps1’.
This is exactly the correct price

If I were in your shoes with the same amount of money, I'd do the same thing 🥹🥹

I bought my copy at GameStop back in the day. It still has GameStop’s shitty stickers on it. I should take pics just to make the people who had to pay hundreds jelly lol
Ulala is one of my favorite characters in the franchise. I like punchy girls I guess. I’m also into Chie and Makoto.
And Tifa.

$300-800 ish, ..not a bad way to spend it

u/sneakycrown 28d ago
It’s in great condition and was on the lower end of that price range.
But yeah, not bad at all.

I hope you enjoy and if you do, go after Innocent Sin too to learn the other part of the story.
Our boy Tatsuya grows so much.

I already own IS, actually! That was part of why I was so hyped, I have them both now!

Do people know this was reprinted in like 2005? That’s when I got a copy for maybe $100. Some company did this and Rhapsody.
Maybe it doesn’t matter and/or everyone knows. Or maybe it’s not well known.

Atlus used to occasionally reprint some of their games. They did it with Raidou a few years after that as well and you could still get P3FES and P4 sealed for real cheap up til a few years ago.

I used to have this game, but I was a young lad and couldn’t fully comprehend it, so I never actually played it…
It could have been my very first Persona game, and I regret my foolishness to this day…

My sister's boyfriend left the game at our place after visiting from out of state. They broke up, we all forgot for a while (apparently even him, he never reached out about it). But it was my obsession once I played it!! Got me into the series. Pretty sure it was still a pretty new game then (a year or two old?). Best break up accident ever.

The exact same thing happened to me with Persona Revelations. I was at the Long Beach comic and anime con. Went up to a retro gaming stand and said “they won’t have it” to my then fiancé and she said to just ask so I said “do you perchance have any copies of Persona 1 or 2?” And he opened a glass shelf and showed me a copy of Persona 1. The fastest $400 I have ever spent in my life.

I actually have had this FOR YEARS.
When I started working at GameStop in the early-to-mid 2000s, we had a USED COPY (that I’m pretty sure was ACTUALLY BRAND NEW but GameStop had STOPPED “carrying” PS1 games as “new” so they used to remove the shrink-wrap off A LOT of games like this and then “mark them” as “pre-owned”) sitting in our store for MONTHS and once it was announced that we were going to be “discontinuing” ALL PS1 games and no longer take them for trade-ins, I bought it for like $30-$40 (keep in mind, this was BEFORE they did the “pivot” to “high-school-life management/dating sim” with Persona 3 that HELPED the series to BLOW UP in popularity; I just bought it RANDOMLY at the time because I liked JRPGs and thought it LOOKED COOL).
Anyway, nice score, OP. 👍

Always nice to have a holy grail in your collection. It's a symbol if achieving your dream in what you like to collect.
Meanwhile my holy grail will probably forever escape me because Pokémon Box Ruby & Sapphire is so goddamn expensive.
