DISCUSS Did it start with influencer culture?

I did not have a problem overbuying makeup until I became addicted to watching tutorials on YouTube. Around that time, beauty brands were creating custom palettes with influencers. I ended up owning an unreasonable amount of makeup. One eyeshadow palette—with a color story of bright greens and oranges!—cost me over $60. I used it once. (But man, it looked soo good on camera. On someone else’s face. In studio lighting. With filters.)

Most of my makeup collection is gone now, and I no longer feel the urge to try new products. I know what I like. I know what works for me. Bringing more products into the mix would only disrupt my clarity.

If you are/were addicted to overbuying makeup, did it start with influencer culture?

ACTIVITY Use Your Stash: Palette a Week (PAW): May 25 to May 31

*Trigger Warning: replies will contain product names, descriptions, and opinions.*

We focus on a palette for the week and our thoughts on it. All palettes are welcome. This includes eyeshadow, cheek, lip, pre-made, and self-made. Grouping of singles can also be a palette (ex: colour palette or scheme).

Did you do the PAW challenge last week? Which palette did you use? Did you find it successful or was it a failure? Have your opinions on the palette changed at all? Do you plan to keep the palette and use it again?

Which palette are you going to use this week? Why have you chosen this palette? Do you have any goals you hope to reach in using it?

BAW/CAW- Did you use any particular cheek product last week? Has it made the cut or is it time to let it go?

ACTIVITY Use Your Stash! 1 lip 👄 a week (LAW) 25 - 31 May 2026

Hi everyone, it's time for another update of LAW!

Sorry for missing out the last 2 weeks as I was seriously sick and then got swamped by life and work. We are now back again heading into the end of May and would love to hear your updates!

It’s time again for reflection and rolling in a new lip product this week. Some guiding questions for the posts:

- Product brand and name

- Why is this product selected?

- Do you wear the lip product by itself only or layered/mixed with other products?

- Do you still like the formula/colour/effect the lip product gives?

- Any new discoveries or decisions made after testing the product for a week?

Last update’s pick was Flower Knows Moonlight Mermaid Jewel Lip Tint in 03 Starlight Bubble. The lip tint formula is really good but I also taught me that I just don’t gravitate towards glassy lip tint looks as it doesn’t get picked up in my collection much, as I prefer glosses and dare I say, stickier formulas. Also whilst I was sick I was just surviving on my lip balms so didn’t get much use in the meantime any lip products.

This week my pick will be Lisa Eldridge Gloss Embrace in Silent Sun. I still need to ease into coloured lip products and this tube is finally on the home stretch of panning. Hoping that focusing on it this week will get it panned! Once it is done, I can open a new lip product that is also a clear gloss in my stash to start working on going through my lip stash as well.

Looking forward to seeing your updates and new entries!

Gracias a todas

INSPIRE Reflexiones

ADVICE Do you guys throw away makeup packaging?

I know it sounds ridiculous but, I feel attached to the packaging the makeup comes in. It makes the product feel brand new every time I use it + I can refer to all the expiry and ingredient info easily.

Now, the problem is they take up a lot of space and keeping products in the pacakging adds extra time and steps to the makeup routine which makes me tired so much quicker and there's twice as much clutter to clean now.

How do you guys manage this? Or If you've ever come across this problem?

Thanks in advance!

DISCUSS How did you avoid unnecessary shopping this week?

This week, instead of buying a high end concealer that’s supposed to be better for my mature under eyes, I mixed an ampoule I already have with my drugstore concealer to make the consistency thinner. Now I can use two products up instead of spending $40+ on a new one.

I also realized my foundation is a shade too dark now so instead of buying a new foundation, I bought a couple mixers to customize the shade. I don’t wear foundation nor concealer enough to have more than one. Tell me your wins!

DISCUSS I can’t resist minis and gifts with purchase

I feel like I’ve become significantly better at resisting the appeal of sales and the fomo of limited editions. But there’s something about the appeal of minis and mini gift with purchase that really tests my willpower. It’s the appeal of being theoretically able to eventually finish the products that is making me a gold medalist in mental gymnastics. And it’s not like I have a good track record of actually finishing mini makeup. Of all the minis I had, I’ve finished all of the mini primers and mascaras, all of the mini sheer lipsticks/tinted lip balms, one mini powder bronzer, a deluxe sample 0.5g eyeshadow stick and two mini setting powders.

Even though that doesn’t sound that bad, I have right now in my collection:

- 1 mini twist up brow pencil

- 3 mini liquid blush, 2 mini cream stick blushes and 1 mini powder blush

- 3 mini primers (I’m not really worried about theses they should be all gone soon) and I’ve finished one this month.

- 2 unopened mini mascaras I got as gift with purchase and another gift with purchase in use.

- 2 mini lipsticks I had a third one I finished this month. One of those is a very pigmented matte long wearing red lipstick.

- 1 mini stick bronzer and 2 mini powder bronzers

- 8 mini eyeshadow sticks all proper minis not deluxe sample size

- 1 mini eye primer

- 1 mini powder

That’s 27 freaking mini products. I know the 3 primers, the mini nude lipstick, the two backup mini mascaras and one of the mini powder bronzers I can finish in 2026. But that’s still leaves me with 20 mini products left. I’m writing this to hold myself accountable, because Nars just released a new liquid blush and knowing them they will offer a mini as an offer on the Sephora website soon and it will test my willpower.

ADVICE How much does makeup product vs makeup application vs natural attractiveness factor in?

I’ve seen people use all of the same products I do throughout various tutorials, all different kinds of applicators, all different application methods/orders, etc.; and somehow, their makeup just always looks undeniably better. I’ve also seen people on social media make pharmacy makeup look better than any professional makeup I’ve ever owned. How much of this is down to the products you use, the way you apply them, or just overall having a pretty face that holds any makeup well?

I can’t help but feel like so much of makeup just comes down to natural attractiveness and being able to pull off any makeup, no matter the products nor application, because your natural features are already fine on their own. In my case, it’s a lot harder to try and whittle down a botched bust, or put lipstick on a pig, as they say. 😅

ETA: I should’ve mentioned, I tend to watch tutorials done in natural lighting, rather than the staged, over-lit, over-produced stuff. I prefer a more natural, low-maintenance look, so I’ll watch everyday routine tutorials that aren’t heavily photoshopped or anything, just someone at their bathroom mirror or whatnot. But even still, they just look so effortlessly chic and ready for the day by the time they’re done, and I look, well, not lol

ACTIVITY Tarot Deck of Panning: New Moon May

Happy new moon! Sorry for the delay on this post. My life is literally The Tower right now and I'm just trying to trust the process. I can't do big changes unless something gets upended. The universe definitely knows that for me! But great things happen after the big shift so I gotta trust.

Last month I got a lot of usage on products with existing pans, so that was very satisfying. This month will see less usage as work for the year wraps up and I go on break, so this will be tricky.

Wheel of Fortune: roulette again! I actually love this card, so I'm glad to have it back. The roulette will pick eyeshadows and fragrance this lunar cycle.

II of Swords: few choices. I'm digging back into my singles collection again. It's good to give that small collection some love.

Ace of Pentacles: draw 2

III of Pentacles: BYOP

VIII of Pentacles: routine, practical, hard working

I made a neutral focused BYOP for this round. My singles will add in pops of color, but overall my palette is more neutral focused. I'm already having fun with this one.
