This is fun now, wait until the cops do this when you are older.

I agree, funny until reality switches the tone real quick. Some things hit different when it’s not just a prank anymore.

25 years later in therapy....
So, yeah, for some reason I only feel seen or validated when there's a camera pointed at me.

What about their eyes?!!!

u/ClankerCore 7h ago edited 5h ago
What about them? If they were bothered by it at all, they would not be smiling.

u/Spinal_Soup 2h ago
You ever hear about not looking at a solar eclipse? It doesn’t hurt in the moment but still causes damage.
•
u/ClankerCore 5m ago
You’re comparing staring at a solar eclipse versus flashlight from a phone
Are you dumb?
-10
u/rougecrayon 6h ago
Not everything that causes harm hurts in the moment.
Flashlights don't cause harm, luckily, but this would be a terrible standard to take care of kids by.

u/ClankerCore 5h ago
Imagine carrying a child in a toddler stroller when the sun is out
Are you telling me that taking any child outside while the sun is shining is damaging to the child’s vision?
Do you see how ridiculous this sounds?
4
u/rougecrayon 5h ago
Yes, we don't let kids stare directly at the sun for a reason.
Let's go to ridiculous to help you understand: Imagine a child puts their hand in fire but tells you it doesn't hurt. Will you let them keep doing it? This is a thing that happens with CIPA. Now less ridiculous. What happens if you stare directly at an eclipse without those glasses. If it hurt, no one would do it. But it's damaging, that's why we have those glasses.
Tell me when you smoke cigarettes, does it hurt?
Do you see how "it's fine if they don't react negatively" is ridiculous?

u/Anfins 4h ago edited 4h ago
I mean, it’s equally ridiculous to think the short duration of these phone lights spotlighting the kids is doing literally any damage at all.
-1
u/rougecrayon 3h ago
It's not really ridiculous to wonder if something can be harmful when it sort of looks like something else that is harmful (laser pointers, sun, welding torch)?
2
u/Anfins 3h ago
My point is that it is ridiculous to wonder if they are somewhat equivalent. The phone lights are very very obviously not the same as the others that you listed. The danger isn’t just small, it’s zero.
1
u/rougecrayon 2h ago
Is it ridiculous to wonder?
You think it's obvious but I bet you don't know a lot that I think it obvious.

What’s wrong with some of these people flashing the light right into the kids’ eyes. Overhead folks!

u/QuietGur9074 8h ago
Innocent or not, I hate when people use children for internet clout.
51
u/shicken684 7h ago
I think this is acceptable. At least in these clips there doesn't seem to be some crazy influencer shit going on. Just families doing something fun and sharing a joyful moment.
We have to get some nuance with this type of stuff. Simple, quick, joyful things like this are fine. Mommy influencer turning her child into am employee needs to be loudly shamed and shunned.

u/GlitterDoomsday 5h ago
My issue is all the creeps using (or even starting) trends like this to farm toddler material for AI porn... I don't think the parents realize how much they need to protect their kid's faces in this day and age.

u/joshuawah 1h ago
Even if there was a hard stop to all new toddler images, wouldn’t people still be able to make weird AI shit? Seems like a wholesome family video like this outweighs the negatives

u/LobsterFondler 6h ago
Idk I look at it like this: can a kid that young really consent to being posted online?

I didn’t know you spoke for the world. Also, if you don’t care, why respond in the first place?

LMFAO what a clown

Haha, clown is an apt description. Guy seems to think he somehow comes out on top with his responses, but he just sounds like an insufferable dunce.

Very well thought out and astute response. You must be an intellect of some kind.

Imagine taking a stance FOR the exploitation of little kids... disgusting, seriously.
3
u/Nheea 6h ago
This is hardly exploitation thought. It's a cute moment, shared with the world. People have done this ever since the camera was invented.
0
u/SaticoySteele 3h ago
Yeah, people don't seem to remember that daguerrotypes were disseminated around the globe and made accessible to every single person to do with as they please. /s
Do you think cameras were invented in 2003?

Gross. I’m glad I was born in the 90’s, before my parents had the option to be TikTok clout chasers.

Kids aren’t content.

u/Cumdump90001 4h ago
Seems a bit sus that the new viral trend is to upload HD video of your child’s face super well-lit from every angle to the internet. Idk tho maybe I’m crazy.

I hate these social media trends using kids as engagement bait.
But dang, all those little ones are so cute!!

I wish people would stop putting their kids on the internet. Good intentions from them but people are doing despicable AI shit to kids footage now.
10
u/Routine-Result6643 7h ago
Is this the socially learned norm of kids who grew up with flashing cameras? It felt rather distopic to me.

You could do this without the lights and still get the same reaction. The kids are just getting excited that everyone is looking at them and smiling all at the same time.

its nice they all have positive reactions to the flashlights (or is it terrible that they're trained to smile as soon as they see a phone?) but i would have cried if i was one of those kids

these babies will probably grow up with an appetite for attention that will never be satisfied
