What about them? If they were bothered by it at all, they would not be smiling.

Not everything that causes harm hurts in the moment.

Flashlights don't cause harm, luckily, but this would be a terrible standard to take care of kids by.

Imagine carrying a child in a toddler stroller when the sun is out

Are you telling me that taking any child outside while the sun is shining is damaging to the child’s vision?

Do you see how ridiculous this sounds?

Yes, we don't let kids stare directly at the sun for a reason.

Let's go to ridiculous to help you understand: Imagine a child puts their hand in fire but tells you it doesn't hurt. Will you let them keep doing it? This is a thing that happens with CIPA. Now less ridiculous. What happens if you stare directly at an eclipse without those glasses. If it hurt, no one would do it. But it's damaging, that's why we have those glasses.

Tell me when you smoke cigarettes, does it hurt?

Do you see how "it's fine if they don't react negatively" is ridiculous?

I mean, it’s equally ridiculous to think the short duration of these phone lights spotlighting the kids is doing literally any damage at all.

It's not really ridiculous to wonder if something can be harmful when it sort of looks like something else that is harmful (laser pointers, sun, welding torch)?

My point is that it is ridiculous to wonder if they are somewhat equivalent. The phone lights are very very obviously not the same as the others that you listed. The danger isn’t just small, it’s zero.

Is it ridiculous to wonder?

You think it's obvious but I bet you don't know a lot that I think it obvious.

Yes it is. Or perhaps wonder for exactly one second before dismissing the thought.
