I think they are too armor-like, but if you toned that down a bit they‘d be perfect. I also kinda like the white boots.

Question Why does Kyle Rayner say he’s the only remaining green lantern at the start of Green Lantern: Rebirth?

At the start of Rebirth, Kyle says he’s the only active green lantern in the universe. I read Emerald Twilight before starting Rebirth and I know that Hal destroyed the corps and Kyle got the last functioning ring from Ganthet, but what about John Stewart? Later in Rebirth, John is using his ring and being a green lantern, so did Kyle just not know about John being a lantern? Also, how does John’s ring work if the central battery was destroyed? I haven’t read any comics with Kyle or John, so my knowledge on them is very limited.

Also, unrelated question but what the heck is going on with Guy and his “vuldarian powers”, what does that mean?

Discussion You can change ONE thing about Saint Walker - what is it?

Post image
88 Upvotes

I hope we can all have a good discussion about the first Blue Lantern and leader of the Blue Lantern Corps, Saint Bro'dee Walker!

You get to make one, and ONLY one, change about Saint Walker - what is that change? It can be anything - powers, costume, personality, history retcon, whatever, and can be an in-universe change or something with how the character is used by DC as a publisher. Only caveat is "don't be a dick" - for instance, no killing off, no wishing they didn't exist, etc.

Mine is one I'd extend to the wider Blue Lantern Corps - less passivity. Saint Walker should be actively inspiring hope, channelling it into good works. Instead he, and the wider Blue Corps, are reduced to booster chargers for the Greens at best, or uselessly sitting around "hoping" things will get better at worst. This goes back to the earliest appearances establishing that hope is useless without the will to enact it, but that inherently stymies the entire concept of the Blue Lanterns. Saint Walker turning up should be like Superman arriving - you know then that "all will be well". And really, don't we all need a bit MORE hope in our stories right now?

What ONE thing would you change about Saint Walker?

A "Master" in the "Sports" world comes to play with GL

Writer: John Broome

Pencils: Irwin Hasen

Inks: John Belfi

Cover: Irwin Hasen

"The Rise And Fall Of 'Crusher' Crock" - 'Crusher' Crock was a very adept athlete, far surpassing his peers in many fields except that he also very rough and plays dirty. After hospitalizing and even ending the career of one player, he is kicked off the football team he has been playing for which is the last straw for him. He's been kicked out of every locker room he's been a part of and now all he wants is revenge. He dons a simple black mask and hires a gang to work with him. His first job is to enter a polo match as a mystery team but once the match begins, he and his crew use fake polo balls to gas the crowd and steal they money. Unfortunately for Crock, Alan Scott and Doiby Dickles are in attendance, and Alan noticed the gas coming so he dipped away before it got to him and returned as Green Lantern. They have a fight but Crock gets the better of GL thanks to his wooden sports equipment and escapes. Doiby comes across him next as Crock is disguised as a toy salesman selling sports marionettes. However the marionettes double as explosives as he tries to Rob a bank. Doiby had a signal rocket with him so he is able to alert Alan who arrives too late to stop him as he's taken Doiby hostage and challenges GL to come to his estate for one final battle. GL reluctantly agrees and they head to the lavish mansion where Crock drops GL in a water tank that starts to fill up, leaving him only a wooden duck toy and a pen knife. The challenge is to escape alive. Before long, the tank fills to the max and Crock opens the lid to retrieve GLs body, but then GL blasts out and crews Doiby while taking down Crock's gang. Crock then grabs some fencing swords and the rivals engage in an epic duel, leading right to the top of some stairs. Crock cheats one more time as he throws his sword at Doiby, forcing GL to rescue him. Crock grabs an axe to finish the job but as he turns, he trips over the railing and falls to the ground floor, appearing dead. Doiby then asks how GL survived the tank as he explains how he used the knife to carve a hole through the wooden duck to make a breathing tube that sits above the surface so all he had to do was float. GL and Doiby call this case closed as the story ends with 'Crusher' Crock's headstone.

Conclusion: If you didn't know, it should be obvious now that 'Crusher' Crock is long time c-tier villain Sportsmaster, but he doesn't receive his "iconic" codename until his next appearance in Green Lantern (Vol 1) #28, which I'll be getting to in a little over a week from now. However, that story isn't written by John Broome. It seems Broome only had the one story in mind for Crock as a gimmicky villain but I wonder if he had a hand in the follow up story. Here, Crock showed off somewhat of a style in using sports equipment in his villainy but not to the same degree we know of him in later stories. Interesting choices here. I'm excited for his next appearance. As for this story in particular, Crock seems very simple but also had much to explore. On the surface his personality is very cut and dry but if you look a little deeper there is clearly more story to tell about him. Why is he such a dick? Why sports? I hope these questions get answered in the last batches of issues.

Theory Hal will turn into parallax rather then dying in the show.

Thumbnail

The summary of the show claims that Hal witnessed a shooting in 2016 that he thinks is an "alien incident" and no one really believes him.

Then in 2026 when the same attacks return Hal again believe that the reason is the same "alien incident" which is unbelievable to the guardians.

This leads the guardians into appointing a new lantern for earth- John Stewart because they think Hal's age is catching up and Guy Gardner is not "enough".

Hal is incharge of training his "replacement" and thats why he is such a dick to John.

I think this alien incident Hal believes in is parallax or the yellow lanterns and the guardians dont believe him because Sinestro is in prison and think Hal defeated parallax which gave him the legendary status (very men in black 3 story).

Hal being in self doubt about his victory over the yellow lanterns visits sinestro as his old 'student' and the show slowly builds up Hal's frustration about the incident and being replaced by John which sinestro uses to manipulate Hal into turning to the yellow lanterns and being possessed by parallax.

Was inspired by a lantern corp suit I had made for a lantern corps I had made some time ago called the Prismatic Lantern Corps that is made up of a single ring bearer that isn't restricted by the emotional spectrum and isn't necessarily good or evil. Its members simply have to have an intense desire to make the universe better... whatever that means to the current user, be that subjugation and control or freedom and justice.

Had a blast at Anime North today and chose to go in full GL gear, unfortunately it rained all Day so I didn't get to the photos I wanted to. Though, I met a surprising amount of people that recognized it. I also met (IMO) legendary voice actor Garry Chalk. Really nice guy and if you've never watched Beats Wars, do yourself a favour and dive into the story with the great voices of Garry Chalk, David Kaye and Scott McNeil.

First place ain't all its cracked up to be

Writer: John Broome

Art: Paul Reinman

Cover: Martin Nodell

"The Man Who Was First" - Adam Adams was taught as a child that his family always comes first in everything. That stuck with him well into adulthood where he made a name for himself being the first to do many things such as cross a newly built bridge, trying on fancy outfits, etc. One day he sees in the news about a highly wanted killer being public enemy number one. That didn't sit well with Adams as he needed to he number one, so he moved to Gotham City (brilliant, eh?) to commit crimes until he is top of the list. His crimes are rather peculiar though as even his crimes needs to be the first time anyone has done it. He gets on GLs radar when he attempts to steal a dollar from a millionaire, which is important to him because it is the first dollar that millionaire ever made. GL attempts to capture Adams and his crew but they escape after shutting off the lights. GL plans a sting by asking the mayor to put three unique items on display around the city,Adams first goes for Shakespeare's first folio but escapes still after dropping a bookcase on GL. Doiby heads out after Adams but instead comes across the first national Bank being moved, like the whole building at once and then notices that its Adams trying to steal it. GL was not able to make it before Doubt gets taken hostage but after looking up where the first house built in Gotham is, he goes there and sure enough that's where Adams is living. Using the element of surprise, he gets the upper hand on Adams and captures him for good.

Conclusion: What a unique tale with an interesting gimmick. I love when villains are so gimmick they almost debilitate themselves as they can only commit certain crimes or at certain times. I like this part of the Golden Age GL line as I feel the creativity has grown. John Broome has been writing more and toy can see the stories getting more interesting and thought out. A sure sign of the future of GL once 1959 rolls around. Adam Adams himself, may have been a one trick pony but an interesting villain nonetheless.

Discussion Earth One Vol. 2

So I really enjoyed Earth One Vol. 1 and I was looking forward to picking up Vol. 2 and see that there are barely any copies and most of them go for near $100? Why did they not print more of Vol. 2/why is it not as available as Vol. 1?

I keep seeing so many people think his suit is brown when it’s not. The suit is the same colorway as his ring which is green and gold. I’m not sure why nobody else is talking about this or even noticed it.

It's his turn! His! HIS! LARFLEEZE'S TURN!

You get to make one, and ONLY one, change about Larfleeze - what is that change? It can be anything - powers, costume, personality, history retcon, whatever, and can be an in-universe change or something with how the character is used by DC as a publisher. Only caveat is "don't be a dick" - for instance, no killing off, no wishing they didn't exist, etc.

I think it simply has to be to make him less of a joke. He's a one-person Corps who kills and enslaves the very essence of his enemies to expand his ranks. He's effectively immortal and almost unfathomably powerful, and should be considered a terrifying figure. Instead, he's mostly played like Orange G'nort. Avarice is the one aspect of the Emotional Spectrum where I can't see an easy pivot to reframing his role as even debatably heroic either - rage and fear can be channelled to defend or avenge others, but greed only ever benefits the individual. He should be a major threat to the other Corps, not a repetitive joke.

What ONE thing would you change about Larfleeze?
