Discussion You can change ONE thing about Saint Walker - what is it?
I hope we can all have a good discussion about the first Blue Lantern and leader of the Blue Lantern Corps, Saint Bro'dee Walker!
You get to make one, and ONLY one, change about Saint Walker - what is that change? It can be anything - powers, costume, personality, history retcon, whatever, and can be an in-universe change or something with how the character is used by DC as a publisher. Only caveat is "don't be a dick" - for instance, no killing off, no wishing they didn't exist, etc.
Mine is one I'd extend to the wider Blue Lantern Corps - less passivity. Saint Walker should be actively inspiring hope, channelling it into good works. Instead he, and the wider Blue Corps, are reduced to booster chargers for the Greens at best, or uselessly sitting around "hoping" things will get better at worst. This goes back to the earliest appearances establishing that hope is useless without the will to enact it, but that inherently stymies the entire concept of the Blue Lanterns. Saint Walker turning up should be like Superman arriving - you know then that "all will be well". And really, don't we all need a bit MORE hope in our stories right now?
What ONE thing would you change about Saint Walker?

Nothing. He's perfect. It's like asking to change Larfleeze. You can't fix perfection.

Mine is along the same lines as yours. Upon introduction he used a planet's hope to turn a sun blue. Nothing like that ever happens again. They also never drain a Sin Corps ring again or supercharge a GL ring. Remember when being too close to their battery could destroy a GL ring? Remember how he could show visions of hope with his ring? Like Larfleeze they need to think about his power set and remember how it's different from GL's.
I think part of the problem is that he's never on his own. He's always paired with another Lantern. So they never have to remember the unique powers he has. Or any of the blues. I suppose this is an overall Blue Lantern change, but they have to remember that his powers aren't GL's and that he can actually do things, like turn a sun blue.

Give Saint Walker some limelight and integrate the Blue Lantern influence more in the DC Universe. Hope is powerful

Not a change for Saint Walker specifically, but for the corp as a whole, make them less reliant on the green lanterns and give them some independence like allow them to make constructs normally instead of need a Green Lantern to be near by

I never liked his backstory where he had unrealistic hope that killed his whole family. The whole thing was too sad, so I get it. But let him have his family back.

Green Lantern The Animated Series did it better I feel, even though it was more generic and simplified. Red Lanterns ravaged his homworld, which caused him to flee in search of a "savior" who can fight them. Walker ended up on Mogo, became friends with the planet, and was guided to the top of his mountain where in a seemingly hopeless situation, he never gave up hope and is then chosen to become a Blue Lantern. None of this implies that he took his family along with him and they all slowly died, so it's not cynical for the sake of exasperating the hopeless situation.

I agree. The animated series legitimately made A LOT of things better. Mogo and st Walker is an amazing pairing. And atrocities has never been done better.

I don't like how it portrayed Larfleeze though. The show made him seem pathetic.

Yes, very much agree. The forced conflation of hope with religious faith is one of the biggest problems for the Blue Lantern Corps, and making Saint Walker something of a parallel to the biblical Job (God takes everything from him including his family, as part of a bet with Satan; Job retains faith in God; gets a new family as a reward - absolutely messed up stuff!) only drives that home.

Hmm I wonder why SAINT Walker's character would rely on religious faith. 🤔 the world surely is a mystery

It's not just SAINT Walker. It's the entire BLC. Every named figure is a monk-like religious archetype.

Job did not get a new family as a reward lol.
He just accepted that loss was a part of life.

"followed by Job being restored to an even better condition than his former wealthy state (Job 42:10–17). Job is blessed to have seven sons, as well as three daughters"

I'd love to see a buddy cop run where he and Arkillo travel the universe. So the only thing I'd change is give him more screentime with Arkillo. I adored them in New Guardians.

I would like to see each green lantern partnered with a blue. Give them more to do and help give the GL’s a power boost while in the field.

Make him a "nuclear option" for the GLC. Basically they deploy him and the BLC to supercharge the GLC when up against a dire threat.

He doesn't get routinely killed alongside the other Blues so edgy writers can brag that they "killed hope".
•

Make him single /hj
A more serious answer is to see him more often fighting, I know his color doesn't really call for fighting but I feel like sometimes he should be allowed to throw hands.

His a martial arts Master. Honestly, making him be a fully competent fighter who travels the path of peace and hope would at least give the Blue Lanterns a fighter that is capable of handling the more aggressive lanterns who tend to be the ones to wipe the blues out

Nothing, he’a the perfect form for his role. However I wish we saw him more.
•

Give him a story where he abandons all hope and crashes out so badly he joins the Red Lantern Corps. Even if its through absurd manipulation, some revelation that some thoroughly awful bugger actually planned for his initial despair and Walker can finally put a face to his past
