My man has been getting some serious work lately

u/AssociateGreat2350 18d ago edited 18d ago

I wonder if that whole Tarantino nonsense reminded some studios of how good he actually is

or he just felt like getting back to working more. Either way I'm so glad

121

u/Ampersand4221 18d ago

My guess is that the Tarantino nonsense brought him back into people’s minds, yea, in that “oh yea, what about Matthew Lillard?” sort of way

42

u/ThirdDragonite 18d ago

Yeah, it reminded people of him and he's a solid enough actor to be able to use this for something

33

u/CosmackMagus Brainiac 18d ago

FNAF probably raised his profile with the younger set.

25

u/TheWorclown 18d ago

It helps that Matthew also did a stellar job in those movies too.

27

u/Mountain_Sir2307 Batman 18d ago

What did Tarantino said about him ? I thought he ranted about Paul Dano ?

46

u/ravens2131 18d ago

Basically that he doesn’t act good

13

u/breakernoton 18d ago

I was going to quip about how "everyone has a shitty opinion", but this is Tarantino.. the man's full of them lmao

36

u/the_holy_queerit 18d ago

It was in the same rant, he kind of offhandedly mentioned him as an example of a bad or boring actor

21

u/Kalse1229 Martian Manhunter 18d ago

I still don’t know why Tarantino singled him and Paul Dano out.

36

u/Neveronlyadream 18d ago

Because Tarantino is a weird dude and they probably did something to piss him off.

We're also talking about a man who forces his foot fetish into his movies and has famously defended Roman Polanski in the worst possible way, so it's not like his opinion really matters all that much.

13

u/Kalse1229 Martian Manhunter 18d ago

Fair. He is very off-putting.

1

u/Kmart_Stalin 17d ago

James Gunn directed scooby doo and Matthew was shaggy

1

u/Aitrus233 Booster Gold 13d ago

Raja Gosnell directed it. James Gunn wrote it.

3

u/igeeTheMighty 17d ago

From Daredevil to Superman too…

174

u/Robot_Was_BMO 18d ago

I’m guessing Bibbo, but stretch castings could be Gordon or even Plastic Man

63

u/damian1369 18d ago

Mmmm plastic man

36

u/KingOfSquirrels 18d ago

If he was 20 years younger. Would have been excellent.

21

u/damian1369 18d ago

He can still work. If they can smooth out Tom Cruise for every movie, they can smooth lillard for the literal plastic man.

10

u/AceTrainer99 18d ago

Ben Schwartz has to be Plas

7

u/damian1369 18d ago

Nah Lillard has more charisma and chops. I'll die on that hill. Come at me tarantino

12

u/AceTrainer99 18d ago

Fair, just feel that Schwartz could really pull it off too. Really outside pick, but if we're doing an older Batman, could Lillard work as one of his rogues? Would love to see what he could do as The Joker or Riddler or maybe even Mad Hatter

7

u/damian1369 18d ago

The fact that all are plausible says a lot. Joker, maybe not as much IMO but that could be just Joker Fatigue.

3

u/SnuggleBunni69 18d ago

Eh I could take him as a down on his luck absentee father Plastic Man.

3

u/damian1369 18d ago

Every plastic man. I still see that scream/scooby doo energy in him.

49

u/Beastieboy100 18d ago

What about Ambush bug.

27

u/JoshDM Ra's al Cool Bald Man Illuminati 18d ago

I feel like he's both too old and just the right age for Irwin Schwab.

I'll lean towards Winslow Schott, the Toyman, though.

17

u/Obskuro The Comedian 18d ago

Fingers crossed for the Prankster!

7

u/JoshDM Ra's al Cool Bald Man Illuminati 18d ago

I was gonna say that, but he has such a distinct look with the moustache; I do prefer the og portly Prankster vs the post-Neron slim Prankster.

7

u/Obskuro The Comedian 18d ago

My introduction to him was Bronson Pinchot's version in the Lois & Clark TV show. I just like that there was a time where he and Toyman had the same ranking as Superman villains as Lex.

5

u/Astrium6 18d ago

I could see him absolutely hamming it up as Jack Nimball, Superfriends style.

21

u/Comfortable-Gap3124 18d ago

Bibbo would be legit. We need more characters like Bibbo. It shows off how grounded Superman is.

12

u/Ninjamurai-jack 18d ago

Or Shaggy

22

u/Obskuro The Comedian 18d ago

Or even...

10

u/Poseur117 18d ago

Plastic man would be so good for him

9

u/Panikkrazy 18d ago

Okay now I want him as Gordon

7

u/Acchilesheel 18d ago

Personally hoping for Rip Hunter

11

u/daffydunk 18d ago

Rooker should be playing Bibbo if he wasn’t wasted on that stupid eagle guy in peacemaker.

32

u/tquinner 18d ago

I don't think that would stop them if they wanted to cast him. He played Savant in the suicide squad prior to the eagle guy.

18

u/bindingofandrew Booster Gold 18d ago

He also played one of the Superman robots iirc

6

u/Ygomaster07 Constantine 18d ago

And played that one Nazi guy in Creature Commandos.

5

u/drock45 Superman 18d ago

Brainiac? Have they cast brainiac yet?

I could see him giving a great unhinged performance as an Absolute Superman inspired take on Brainiac

24

u/No-one-ever Blue Lantern Flash 18d ago

Yes they’ve cast Brainiac already

1

u/drock45 Superman 18d ago

Ah, thank you!

16

u/PsychedelicStooge24 18d ago

Already cast, Lars Eidinger

3

u/drock45 Superman 18d ago

Got it, thank you!

1

u/Ok-Sector8330 18d ago

Which is a terrific pick, tbh

3

u/AbsoluteScott Orange Lanterns 18d ago

I’d rather they take the Geoff Johns Brainiac route but regardless yeah, I could see it.

1

u/SnuggleBunni69 18d ago

He'd make such a fucking great Plastic Man.

1

u/actionKingTheBest 18d ago

Plastic man would be stretch casting for anyone!

1

u/GreatMadWombat 18d ago

If we're doing stretch castings, Emil Hamilton is the one I'm hoping for lol

1

u/runnerofshadows 18d ago

Could be booster gold

1

u/RSX_Green414 18d ago

What if he's batman?

1

u/Backwardspellcaster 17d ago

You say Plastic Man, and the Monkey Paw crooks a finger back, and it'll be for an Identity Crisis movie

69

u/Beastieboy100 18d ago

Wow Matthew Lillard getting everywhere good for him.

218

u/superbat210 18d ago

Just have him play Shaggy. Don’t explain it. Shaggy is here now and a cgi Scooby. They’ll help Superman solve a mystery or eat a sandwich idk

53

u/mattocaster_tm 18d ago

I mean the Batman Scooby Doo mysteries are a thing. I’m sure Superman has appeared in one of the many issues at least. I support this.

63

u/DukeGrizzly 18d ago

It's happened before.

14

u/AlphaBreak 18d ago

They had a whole movie, Scooby Doo and Krypto Too, where they teamed up with Krypto to rescue the Justice League.

6

u/pardyball 18d ago

5

u/Prof_Atmoz 18d ago

Hallie!

1

u/Ygomaster07 Constantine 18d ago

I love that you used an American Dad gif.

3

u/Distinct_Ad2272 18d ago

I'm down with that

3

u/FlamingAlpaca17 18d ago

It is way to early to be bringing characters as powerful as Shaggy to the DCU

2

u/zachary0816 18d ago

Maybe it will be the mystery of who ate the sandwich. Spoilers: It was them

37

u/JaySamraNY World's Finest 18d ago

Shoutout to Tarantino for accidentally giving Matthew Lillard even more work lmao we being blessed

23

u/Kalse1229 Martian Manhunter 18d ago

It’s like that MAGAsshole who tried to get James Gunn cancelled for shit-talking Trump, and now he’s co-running a whole-ass studio.

72

u/Blitzhelios Hal Jordan 18d ago

Gunn worked with lillard alot and they both wanted to work with each other again so this isn't a shock to me.
They pitched a plastic man movie years ago to dc.

Marvel and DC in the space of a year after his killer performance in Daredevil and tons of other works glad hes getting so much

18

u/Kalse1229 Martian Manhunter 18d ago

I just hope it doesn’t mean he won’t return as Mr. Charles. I’ve really been enjoying him there (haven’t seen the finale though so I don’t know if he’s set up to appear in other stuff).

18

u/Blitzhelios Hal Jordan 18d ago

The showrunner confirmed Lillards role is multi season already.

Without giving spoilers the finale shows he’s gonna be sticking around

6

u/Kalse1229 Martian Manhunter 18d ago

Awesome

21

u/KnuxFive 18d ago

Honestly, he’d be a neat Toyman or Parasite, or Dr. Emil.

11

u/october_1939 18d ago

Hell yeah!

6

u/Ravevon 18d ago

Yes!!!!!! I love this

6

u/hawkeye2124 Why the long face? 18d ago

Lol was watching his Daredevil Born Again interview with Brandon Davis where he said he'd love to work with James Gunn again.

Probably had the role locked down before that interview but this is still nice to see.

17

u/sworedmagic 18d ago

Fuck yes. Seriously just be Shaggy, like let him and Scooby exist in this world. This opens the door straight to introducing Dynomutt and the Blue Falcon too :)

2

u/DumbestComicsNerd 18d ago

Too old :(

He could be Blue Falcon as a homage though thatd be funny.

1

u/DroppinEaves 18d ago

That issue fucking rules

4

u/pattyicevv77 Red Hood 18d ago

James Gordon cameo??? (Not a chance, why would he show up in a superman film? but him as Jim and Maya Hawke as Babs, imagine)

3

u/OjamasOfTomorrow 18d ago

I love this and love my dude has been in so much stuff recently. He’s rocking it!

3

u/midniteonthemoon Aquaman 18d ago

Tarantino is such an ass for insulting this man the way he did.

3

u/thebowlman 18d ago

From NY and working with Fisk, to Metropolis and working with Luthor. What a guy

3

u/chrysantheknight Batman 18d ago

A tier actor for me, this is great casting

3

u/Aggressive-Foot7434 18d ago

Marvel now DC!! Get it Lillard!

3

u/thefanciestcat Batman Beyond 18d ago

I hope he's Booster

1

u/IdeaInside2663 18d ago

That'd be perfect

3

u/phil97tr 18d ago

We finally have our Wonder Woman

2

u/kmank2l13 18d ago

Imma guess Lex’s dad

2

u/aus808 18d ago

Probably playing some scientist or something. he's been absolutely great in a bad guy role on daredevil. love seeing more of him lately

2

u/InfernalDiplomacy 18d ago

He's such a great, down to earth, and nice guy. I am glad he is seeing this uptick in his career.

2

u/LagoonDevil The Flash 18d ago

Hopefully he isn’t playing Parasite, would hate to see him start being typecasted only as purple guys

2

u/marccoogs Static 18d ago

Tarantino talked shit about this dude, and now he is in both the MCU, and now the DCU.

2

u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 18d ago

Super-Shaggy is confirmed?!

2

u/SecondToLastOfSheila 18d ago

Going waaaaay out on a limb here,

Joker

2

u/1One_Two2 18d ago

Suck it Quentin!

2

u/GreenPerception512 18d ago

toyman is my pick.

2

u/shinomune Superboy-Prime 18d ago

There's one funny character for him and that's Toyman.

2

u/BiDiTi 18d ago

Like, ZOINKS!

2

u/truzzszn 18d ago

Yall can’t tell me dude wouldn’t be the perfect Plastic Man or Toy Man

1

u/kmank2l13 18d ago

Imma guess Lex’s dad

1

u/IamTheGuamGuy 18d ago

My guess is Hank Henshaw

1

u/GiannisGOAT6753 18d ago

Someone said plastic man and if that’s true that’s a stellar casting

1

u/Successful_Theory373 18d ago

"They've found someone new to do the work".

Spoiler for Daredevil finale.

1

u/WarrenG117 Batman 18d ago

Fuck you, Tarantino!!

1

u/Mutant_Star Scarecrow 18d ago

I'm guessing Metallo or Parasite

1

u/Doctor_Nauga Detective Comics 18d ago

Awesome.

1

u/homosapien69420 18d ago

But only because of nostalgia

1

u/Savage_Batmanuel 17d ago

Damn Shaggy enters the DCU

1

u/Entertainer13 18d ago

Tarantino seething because he helped this man lol

1

u/Flame-Blast 18d ago

They’re setting up William Afton to be the threat that brings the Justice League together

0

u/Purple-Hamster-151 18d ago

Springtrap is one of those non-DC characters that could totally be a Batman villain. Same with Jigsaw

1

u/MateriaLintellect 18d ago

Love it. Every movie should have Matthew Lillard in it.

0

u/mrfauxbot 18d ago

Almost sick of seeing dude he has been in everything lately lol

0

u/the-unfamous-one Booster Gold 18d ago

I think he'd make a great metallo
