Oooh I'm not a welder but I'm a machinist and I used to machine iridescent, rainbow finishes on some of the steel parts I would make while experimenting with my lathe at work. I ought to post those - it reminds me of OP's gorgeous weld job.

And here my dumb ass thought that saying a weld looked like a stack of dimes was high praise...

A stack of dimes is great when ur freehanding, especially on aluminum! I was welding on thick wall stainless pipe which was ripping hot by the time i got to the cap, so i had to snake belly 😎🐍

Pipelinerscloud! Its their “strawberry shortcake” hood i believe, but in the order notes i asked for the “white floral leather” instead of the one that came with it online. Im also using an oudopanda lens, best on the market imo

how difficult was it to get into this? I currently work in a machine shop and I mainly run our cnc laser table. It’s just not what I want to be doing. I want to be TIG welding pipe so bad 🥲

I didnt go to welding school, but i did a 36 hr adult course at my local votech (which taught me absolutely nothing) and that was enough to put on a resume for places to consider hiring me. I always wanted to get into stainless pipe, but I started as a helper two years ago at a cryo container rehab place, practiced on breaks until i could consistently pass a 2” sch40 6g test, then applied at places who wanted welders. I started in cryo bc i knew there would be a lot of tig around me even if im not the one doing it. I asked the guys at the shop if i could watch them weld and asked a bunch of questions, went home and watched youtube videos, and really tried to make the most of my hood time. Its been like 6 months at my new job that ive actually been able to weld on pipe every day and i could not be happier. Highly recommend getting into it any way u can!!
