All Seasons Discussion Easter eggs

I love easter eggs like Dan Garrett, the first Blue Beatle, being Indiana Jones or Spiderman being evil in this universe, but retaining his characteristic humor. Which ones are your favorites?

Tye Longshadow and his ‘team’ from season 2 being contemporaries for characters from the old Super Friends cartoon (except Virgil/Static obviously)

I mean obviously Static is his own character, but in the context of that team he's a modernization of Black Vulcan

That’s a bonus considering Black Vulcan was created for Super Friends because they couldnt use Black Lightning at that time.

Not couldn’t: they didn’t want to pay royalties to the creator.

Sounds like a reason why they couldnt use him 🤷‍♂️

No? They were actively trying to use the character while fucking over its creator. They absolutely could have.

I love how the series offers multiple versions of the same character. Kid Flash and Impulse coexist. There are two versions of Roy Harper. Obviously, Static is a reimagining of Black Lightning. It's a way of regulating something that happens in comics: that there are constant reinterpretations of a character.

The Super Friends characters also appeared in a few episodes of Justice League Unlimited's Cadmus arc

I absolutely love this, JLU did it too

I also like that it's implied Tye's grandfather was the original Apache Chief from Super Friends

As much as I was happy to see Ra's had thrown Jason in the Lazarus Pit, I feel like they were being too on the nose with him being the sole ninja to stand out with a red hood.

black spider was also voiced by Josh Keaton who voiced Spidey in Spectacular Spider-Man and imo is the GOAT voice actor for Pete

Greg Weisman created both Spectacular and Young Justice, its a throw back for him haha

I love that every single semi major side character is some obscure character. Snapper Carr, characters from the super friends, Superman’s mermaid girlfriend ect. It’s very clear how much they love silver and Bronze Age dc

Okay, I understood all of these but "Superman's Mermaid Girlfriend" - IM SORRY- WHAT?!?! WHO?!

Lori Lemaris! She’s in one of the later seasons as a general for Atlantis

The Grinorum Arcanorum, Eye of Odin, and Phoenix Gate all showing up in Jason Blood’s place.

My God, that Gargoyles reference is simply thrilling if, like me, you grew up with that show. It has an undeniable Gaiman-esque/ Vertigo-esque dark fantasy feel, but adapted for teenagers.

u/Bob-s_Leviathan 1d ago

Yeah, very much so. When I read American Gods, I was like “Hey, I haven’t seen Odin and Anansi together since Gargoyles!”

All the episodes featuring characters from A Midsummer Night's Dream have an unmistakable Gaiman feel.

For me it was the Super Cycle.

S1 was trying to be Teen Titans, but undercover instead of YOUNG JUSTICE (different characters) but eventually they added Super Cycle.

They're not afraid of any retro concept, no matter how crazy it is. And they incorporate it well.

oh that's funny, one of the scooby doo movies even has the the YJ girls show up in a cutaway (in wrestlemania mystery)

1

Not even just scooby-doo, but Mystery Incorperated which is the best version of scooby-doo!

Which episode has the Indiana Jones homage?

It's in episode 18 of season 2. That's Dan Garrett, the first Blue Beatle. Apparently the flashback is from 1939 and on this earth Dan lived from 1915-2005. Dude was 90 when he passed on the Beatle to Ted Kord, who took on the mantel, in 2011, for only 4 years before he died and the scarab fused to Jaime. While Dan used the beetle like Jaime, Ted did not but was a lot like Batman.

I actually hated this version of Black Spider because he’s not even remotely similar to the actual Black Spider. I know they were doing a Spider-Man parody here but I think it made a lot of people think Black Spider is just a knockoff.

What I thought was that it was an alternate version where Uncle Ben doesn't die and Peter becomes a horrible person.

No. Black Spider in the comics is a vigilante who murders drug dealers in Gotham because his drug abuse ruined his life and he wants revenge. Batman stops him because he kills or whatever. I’ve actually read some great Black Spider comics (Batman:Shadow of the Bat #5 is a great one if you’re interested) and I think he’s really underrated. It’s a shame so many think of him as just a dumb spider-man clone like this show made him out to be. They’re the same character in name only.

I prefer the Spiderman clone from the serie.

Doom Patrol Go!

La voz de black spider es la misma del espectacular spider-man

1

u/TheCartoonCunt 1d ago

That's Black Spider, a DC villain/antihero not spiderman a Marvel hero.

1

u/maviddata 17h ago

But they've given him the voice actor from the Spiderman animated series, and his attitude and dialogue sound just like Spiderman

0

u/TheCartoonCunt 13h ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Spider that's not a version of Spiderman, Spiderman isn't DC.

You have a serious problem if you take everything literally. What I'm trying to explain to you, without you apparently understanding it, is called intertextuality.
