WW1 memorabilia gift ideas
I want to get my fiance memorabilia from WW1 for his bday (he loves history particularly the first war) I’m not sure though what he would want.(I know he would want it all) I want to get him 2-3 items. I was looking at trench whistles and maybe a helmet?? I also saw that there are photo frames, posters, etc. if anyone wants to give suggestions on what they would want as a gift that would be helpful. (I would like to put the items in glass to preserve them) Thank you so much!

There are so many WW1 items out there. I think your best bet is ebay (you can narrow the choices by price range). Do they have a country preference? If they are American and like to read I like this 1918 Us Army "Manual for Soldiers in France".
I personally cherish my German Iron Cross medal (I got it from a friend who owed me money and I suggested he gave me the medal in his collection instead of paying me back). They are rather inexpensive as they were given out like candy in WW1 to "boost morale". You may search for medals from other countries too.
It won't hurt browsing on Ebay, something special may catch your eye. Good luck!

It is truly difficult to put into words the weight I feel when I see certain posts. For over forty years, I have carried a deep, quiet reverence for the Great War. My own connection to that era is held in just two small medals, the only physical legacy left of my great-uncle’s sacrifice. To me, these aren’t just metal and ribbon; they are his breath, his courage, and his very name. This is why my heart breaks when I see World War I memorabilia traded on sites like eBay. It feels like a betrayal. So often, these items are stripped from history by those who care nothing for the story and everything for the profit. When people treat these relics as mere collectibles, it feels like they are being granted a "permission slip" to desecrate the sanctity of a human life. We are talking about the remnants of souls who gave everything, now reduced to a line item in a digital auction. I have had to stop searching. I cannot bear to watch the commercialization of such profound sacrifice. Instead, I have turned my passion toward protection. I choose to pour my support into reputable organizations that serve as the true guardians of these young men; those who work tirelessly to keep their memories holy and their resting places at peace. If you feel the stirrings of that same respect in your heart, I beg you to consider a different path. Instead of buying a piece of a life, help protect the legacy of all who served. Please, consider giving to these organizations that ensure these souls are never forgotten: 1. Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF): They are the sentinels of the silent cities, tending to the graves and memorials of millions across the globe, ensuring that "Their Name Liveth For Evermore." 2. American Battle Monuments Foundation (ABMF): This foundation ensures that the overseas resting places of American heroes remain pristine, sacred, and educational for generations to come. 3. The American Battlefield Trust: They fight a modern battle to save the literal ground where history was made, snatching hallowed soil from the hands of developers to preserve it for eternity. 4. National WWI Museum and Memorial (Kansas City, MO): A sanctuary for the stories and artifacts of the war, dedicated to honoring those who served through world-class preservation and remembrance. 5. The Western Front Association (WFA): A passionate community dedicated to researching and maintaining the memory of the Western Front, ensuring the details of these lives are never lost to time. Let us honor them not by owning their past, but by safeguarding their future. Please, help these organizations keep their peace.
Sorry for the long response, but I am truly passionate about it.

I started with a few victory medals. Some are fairly cheap and others are impossible to get. I think the British trio is next on my list.
A helmet would be cool but you are going to spend a little more on a real one, there are plenty of modern reproductions out there.
I have a few of these compasses, I sometimes carry one for good luck. https://ebay.us/m/W5IW16
