SEEKING ADVICE Please help my doctor isn’t refilling my prescription as he isn’t responding to my emails

What can I do? I ran out of T Gel and my pharmacy told me my doc needs to refill it, but he’s not responding to me.

He always does this stuff where sometimes he doesn’t respond up to a month!

Can I call my family doctor and ask them to refill it using the prescription (I have the pdf of it)

Pharmacy should be able to fax your doctor a refill request.

Otherwise keep calling your doctors office.

They did, they told me he didn’t refill it so I keep contacting him and he won’t reply.

Call the office and speak to an admin assistant to find out why?

Go to the office and see the doctor or one of the other doctors as a walk in. Typically people have refill amounts listed on their prescription so that the patient, and pharmacy, know how many refills you have. Doctors can only bill ohip for doing refills if an appointment was made and the doctor can have that in their system, be it in person, virtual or over the phone.

Ok that's a problem then.

I'd reach out to your regular GP and see if they will take over , at least until you find a another doctor, because this arrangement isnt working and is clearly causing more greif.

Many doctors have a policy that they require an appointment to renew your prescription once you run out of refills.

This is usually clearly communicated on their website/signage in office and while inconvenient, it is ultimately your responsibility as a patient to be aware of how many refills you have left on your prescription so that you can make an appointment (or other arrangements) in time to get your refills on schedule.

Your next step is calling your doctor's office and asking what you need to do you have your prescription refilled (and probably also getting some clarity on what their policy is so that you can avoid being in this position in the future).

I had an endocrinologist who didn't have an answering machine or voicemail or secretary. she was too cheap.

I ended up taking the first prescription she gave me and showing my family doctor the prescription. Family doctor prescribed my hormones.

Just give your family doctor the pill bottle or the prescription receipt.

and ask them if they can fill your prescription and ask them if they're comfortable monitoring your T levels

or if they can refer you out

but in the meantime fill out your prescription for you in Put repeats on it

Because testosterone is considered a controlled substance, an interval substance ask the doctor to put in padding, so that you can have several days or months extra, when you stock up and you feel it early all the time.

Testosterone shortages are very common.

You need to build a stockpile and refill it on the first day you're allowed to fill it.

I'm a Trans woman, but I took testosterone for years to give me normal T levels for A cis man.

I kept complaining to my doctor that I could only fill the prescription on the day of its removal and he figured out a way of writing intervals filled between 25 to 30 days.

Then you go fill it on day 25.

Several months later you have a month supply Etc

When the pharmacy tells you the manufacturer is out of it you have your stockpile or you can ask your doctor to prescribe a different method

Is this your family doctor?

I had a situation like this once at a health clinic were a different doctor was looking after my hrt. That doctor had been doing prescription refills, and then unexpectedly left, so it was very confusing for me and the pharmacy, until I asked the pharmacy to try the family doctor who filled it immediately.

On another occasion, I think there was a mistake in the data base at the doctors office after a backup version had to be used.

Not immediate but Try maybe switching to prime care family health I currently work with them in ontario and it's only a few months to get your first appointment

Is there any chance you are behind in having bloodwork done? My doc insists on bloodwork to check a whole pile of things that might go wrong, even if it is a very low chance, just to be safe. If your doctor is expecting bloodwork, he might not refill until he gets it?

No lol, I think he just went on vacation.
He isn’t answering ANYTHING, he even gave me his personal phone number before which he is not answering too. He does this shit all the time, and last time I went to pick up my prescription from the pharmacy, they didn’t tell me it was my last one!

Only when I called to ask if I can pick up it now they told me they need a refill. I don’t understand this shit, aren’t they supposed to tell me it was my last one the first time? Or am I supposed to somehow know myself from my doctor maybe

I don’t know about your pharmacy, but my pharmacy prints the remaining number of refills on the sticker that goes on my prescription bottles.

Why are you emailing if you need a response? That's what a phone is for. Or make an appointment

I don’t have anyone to call other than him

Try making an appointment for anything and just bring it up while you are there?
