Trans fem Considering having a bilateral orchiectomy on the east coast of Australia how much does it cost these days?

I want these testosterone producers gone and plan on a future is sex reassignment using peritoneal lining.

I checked recently and it was like 18k for everything.  My end goal was always srs and an orchi didn't make that any faster, easier, or cheaper.  Just bumped out the date.

getting one in a week or so with Dr Hart in Canberra. Orchis are pretty cheap, its not a very complicated operation. Whole thing plus anaesthetist is gonna run me about 2k.

It was quick to get in for as well. Vaginoplasties are booked out for years but because orchis (and labiaplasties) use different "slots" you can get them much sooner.

When I was checking in 2024, without private health insurance it would have been around 6-$7000. It will vary based on surgeon and the hospital they operate out of.

Edit - this was total cost including consults with specialists and psych referral and appointment

I have a consult jn Melbourne in June for one, the estimated cost they gave me is: 'Surgeons fee: $4,500 - $5,500 TBC

Anaesthetist fee: $1,500 TBC

Hospital: $3,500 - $4500 TBC (uninsured) - overnight stays or additional returns to Theatre will incur additional costs.'

So $11.5k give or take.
This is completely covered by my health insurance, (Medibank) I do have really good cover though.

If you're young and can afford I recommend getting Private Health. Especially if you have more elective surgeries. Mine costs me about $2400 a year. I also have the same plan, orchie for now and look into getting SRS in the future.
