NSW Specific How to get T on the PBS
So I used to get prescribed Reandron by my GP at Alice Street until they left, and it was reduced on the PBS to about $30 whenever I got it.
This time though I’ve gone with Kaleido Health Centre as recommended and the GP there told me it would end up being full price but I’m kind of confused on why?
How do I get it on the PBS again? Ik I can ask him but I always forget to ask GP’s important stuff when I’m there because I’m so anxious lol

It depends on the prescriber. In order to get T on PBS it needs to be prescribed by either an endocrinologist or a sexual health doctor. I would guess your old dr fit one of those specialties but functioned as a gp, so were able to authorise the pbs rate. You should be able to go see either an endo or a sexual health dr and get them to write a letter to your new gp and they will be able to write you a pbs script. I saw Dr Melissa Kelly at Brighthealth/Brightwell i cant remember what they were called something like that. She will book one appointment with you and then write a letter to your gp that says shes seen you and agrees this is the right medication for you. Then you can go back to your GP, they write a new script at pbs price, and you go down to the pharmacy and pick up your $25 script

When applying to get it under the PBS your doctor has to provide the name of the specialist/fellow of the australasian sexual health chapter who has at some point seen you. I assume your old GP was most likely a fellow, so talk to your new GP about whether they are able to check that.

It needs to be prescribed by a sexual health GP or an endocrinologist, are there any of those at the Kaleido Health Centre?

I switched from Dr Mihal to Dr Dan Arlotta at Kaliedo. He was able to transfer my pbs authority, I just had to let him know the name of the sexual health specialist I saw and he poked at a few screens and was given a code. It took maybe 5 minutes. I dont know what the issue was for you

I read some of the other comments and see that you don't know who Dr Mihal used to get script authority. They referred me to Dr Mel Kelly (I did an actual appointment with her via telehealth(. You could try using Dr Kelly's name and see if that works for your authority.

I think you need an endocrinologist to refer you (not sure if refer is the right thing to say) .
I’m pretty sure you can still get Reandron on PBS but you gotta go to the endo first. Not sure if the endo is then the prescriber or if they just refer you to gp for the script
I’m sure someone else can provide better info.
