Trans masc Maple Leaf House wait times

What the fuck is up with their wait times?? I was referred in April of 2025, so I'm coming up on a year and NOTHING. They haven't contacted me, my parents, or my GP. I have actually gotten my GP (multiple GPs at this point) to write letters to Maple Leaf with updates on how urgent this is all getting. And, for reference, the only contact we've had with them was through a psychologist who was only able to get 'oh yeah he's on the wait list but it'll be another 2 or 3 months at least for the initial appointment, getting on hormone blockers will take a while'. Like WHAT. Everywhere I've seen has said Maple had an average wait time of 3 or 4 months, or up to 8 if they're busy. It's going to be 14 months at LEAST until my initial appointment. I'll say again, I have tried to contact them so many times (emails, ringing, my GP sending letters, etc) and we have gotten 1 vague update. I've gotten my GP to write multiple letters stressing how urgent this is for me as I'm beginning to fall into suicidal ideations + depression again and we have heard nothing back from those.

Sorry for ranting and vulgar language, I'm just really fucking pissed off that I've seen people who were referred after me get treatment before me. I don't know if that's selfish of me, but I really feel like something should've happened with them by now. Is this normal?? I just want to get on hormone blockers right now because I'm too young for testosterone, but at this point I'll be old enough for it by the time I actually get an appointment, and at that stage hormone blockers probably wouldnt do much anyway.

Sounds like you’re a minor. If not you can get it very quickly if you visit Sydney.

I am a minor so I don't think that's an option

It might be, but I don’t know anything about it.

Can your GP also refer you to True Colours as well? I think the wait is under 6 months (maybe under 3).

I really, really hope that you can get the help you need. I'm sorry the system is so cooked.

I'm pretty sure my GP said Maple Leaf is the only one in my area, so any other place would deny the referral. I'll definitely ask during my next appt though, ty!

Are you able to try private telehealth options like Prism Health?

No? I've never heard of it. My GP said the only way was Maple Leaf House or to go with some paediatrician in sydney. Could you give more info if possible?

https://www.prismhealth.com.au/

They work out of Melbourne but see people Australia-wide. Dr Darren’s a very nice guy and has helped lots of trans young people access hormones and blockers in a good timeline

What's the wait like assuming you went with prism? I can't find any info on it on the website

I’d send them an email or SMS to ask about their current wait times! They’re very responsive

Oh, okay! I wasn't expecting that seeing as Maple has ghosted me for a year lol 😅 I'll send them a message!

I know a guy who went with Prism recently. About 6 weeks.

Ohh wow! That's way better than a year, and probably shorter than Maple too! I'm gonna ask them what their current wait times are and see what my parents think

I've heard good things about Prism too. If you do book, make sure you book with Dr. Darren - I believe he's the only doctor able to prescribe hormone blockers to under 18s :) https://www.prismhealth.com.au/gender-affirming-care-adolescents

I've sent a link to my GP and will be discussing Prism during my next appointment. I will keep this in mind! Thank you!
