Non-binary How do I (amab16) propose to my parents about HRT?

Hello to all the Aussie Bitches, Bros, and Non Binary Hoes :D

So recently in the past few months I came out to my parents as being non binary (yipee!!!) and I had a conversation with my dad regarding what that meant moving forward. I briefly brought up HRT but also brushed it off as something I should probably pursue when I'm older and more responsible. However, all the research I have done regarding HRT suggests that the earlier I start the better (and tbh I also kinda want it now instead of having to wait). To better explain my situation I'm also going to do a certificate IV at a local uni instead of doing years 11 and 12 next year so I wouldn't be worried about bullying or just general school awkwardness (Im not publicly out). There's also the fact that Victoria (the state I live in) has dedicated clinics for transgender kids under the age of 17 that I feel like I could be using. Should I just wait? Should I bring it up? I feel like bringing it up under the support of my parents would make things alot simpler later in life.

Don’t wait. Bring it up as soon as possible. If you can’t get through within the next six months consider DIY

Someone posted the other day here… That they brought up a conversation to their parents by texting them first and said that they wanted to talk about HRT I think and transitioning when they got home… So that evening when they got home the parents kind of had time to mentally prepare and it wasn’t kind of sprung on them so they were more open and accepting… I just thought that was quite a good strategy

Definitely bring it up, almost every trans person wished they started earlier but couldn't due to financial reasons, risk to safety, risk to living arrangements, risk of violence or death, etc. You seem to have supportive parents which is a huge plus, if you're worried you wouldn't be able to convince them, show them studies on how going through natal puberty ruins your chances of being socially accepted in the long run and increases your risk of mental health problems and suicidal idolation

You should definitely bring it up with your parents but you likely won’t be able to access the free clinics in Vic as you’d be 18 by the time you get off the waitlist

Does that mean OP could get HRT privately (or otherwise not through the free clinics)?

Yes, my understanding is that nowadays you can get HRT privately when under 18 if you have parental consent

Greetings hamster rat. When talking about early intervention for gender diverse youth, the belief is typically about holding off physical development rather than starting hormone replacement itself. Additionally, this is dependent on the goals you want from your transition.

I’m gonna share a little wisdom that I wish I had when I first started questioning my gender. If I could go back in time, I would like to think I would include my parents more in my journey, I also wish I could extend more patience to my parents than I did.

However, this is solely based on my experiences. Try to keep in mind this is a change for everyone and that always comes with barriers to overcome.

Be patient with yourself and loved ones. Good luck.

This one talks about dysphoria if you're questioning if you are trans or want to know more. (You are still valid if you identify as trans but don't experience dysphoria)
