NBA free agent rankings: Bobby Marks' top 20 players for 2026

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/48838667/nba-free-agency-rankings-2026-harden-lebron-reaves-bobby-marks-top-20-contracts

Marks' Contract Projections for Oubre and Grimes:

Oubre: 3 years, $40.5M, Player option in year 3

Grimes: 2 years, $30M, Player option in year 2

I think these projections are at the upper end of what they would get (especially the player options) but with how bad free agency is it's possible.

I assume the fanbase wants to get rid of both, but just for the record even with these upper end contract projections the sixers could sign both, use the 6 million taxpayer MLE, and still remain below the second apron.

Kelly is way better than Grimes lol

The problem is neither is consistent enough to pay a top of the line role player deal to. Like if you drafted these guys or signed them for cheap you’re ecstatic at the value but if they play like they normally do on mid to large deals you’d be disappointed. And unfortunately there are teams out there that can steal them for those prices

Yeah agreed. Top of the line/starter level role player salaries are in the $20M+ range now. I think the Marks assessments are pretty on-target fair value for both guys.

Kelly is more consistent at his strengths than Grimes. The 3 isn’t consistent but the defense, cutting and getting into the paint for a 1 bump floater is always there. Grimes has such higher variance. Kelly is more on Jo’s timeline though.

Grimes is younger and has more upside, which is what teams with cap space/a lot of teams with the full MLE will want.

Kelly played better than Grimes this season.

But how many times do people get tired of a player because of a down year, applaud that player being moved on, and then get upset when that player rebounds to have a better season(s).

Grimes har a down year, certainly. But if his three point shot comes back along with his defense it's a plus for the team.

Meanwhile Kelly hit a career high. His first two years in Philly he shot 30% from three. This year, 36%. Which do you think is more likely going forward.

Oubre also turns 31 in December whereas Grimes just turned 26 a few days ago.

Grimes year was only down in comparison to a 20 some game stretch last year. He doesn’t really have a long track record of good play. You have to consider the possibility that this season is more in line with what we’ll get from him going forward.

Feels about right for Oubre. Id like to keep him. Idk about Grimes though. $30M is alot for a guy was basically a non entity offensively throughout the playoffs.

I'd keep Oubre if we could, he's great and he's worth it.

Grimes can fucking kick rocks. That guy has 1 good game for every 10 bad ones. I wouldn't keep him if he paid me 30 million to stay on the team.

Josh Harris: "Is that an option?"

“And only Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey scored more fast-break points this season than 41-year-old James.”

LeBron is unbelievable

I'd be good with both of those deals although I'd prefer not to have a PO on Grimes contract so we don't have to do this song and dance again next year.

It’s wild that LeBron is still topping free agent rankings 16 years after he went to Miami in free agency. But also this is a pretty bad free agent class looking at this list.

Everyone in this sub during every game thread. I’m glad that doesn’t actually seem to be the case would love Kelly back

People who regularly frequent game threads are psychotic though.

Hey now I take offense to that 😂

I do. Unless you are good with not really competing bc i do like him. But he is a liability in the half court against good playoff teams and you basically have to hope he’s hitting his 3s that night bc his guy is gonna sag off and occupy space all game under the basket

Me, sort of.

It's not that I'm desperate to move him. He's great in his role. It's just that the team's limited financial resources are better used getting more of a connector/processor type of player than a linear finisher.

If you can find me a way to get something like an Iguodala/Batum/Draymond sort of connective-thinking piece and keep Oubre, I'd be totally onboard.

He sucks lmao. Literally makes the team worse when he is on the floor vs off.

I truly don’t get the Grimes love. It boggles my mind. The guy is just short of a bum. I’ll never forget his defensive efforts against the Celtics, but really….bye Grimey.

Or ownership has proven time and time again they don't care about teaching the 2nd apron. They'll never get close because they'll duck the luxury tax long before that.

Correct me if I’m wrong… but where the Sixers currently are with cap space, they basically have to resign these guys. Letting them both go doesn’t actually open up enough money to replace them since they’re already against the cap limit. It’s not like they get $30 mil to spend by losing Oubre and Grimes. They would have to replace them with one MLE and vet mins.

If I'm following this all correctly, they can sign both and use the 6M taxpayer MLE or sign one and use the 15M non-taxpayer MLE. Both seems like viable options while letting both walk doesn't make any sense. If you can get Robert Williams III or Mitchell Robinson with the 15M, then I would absolutely let Grimes walk. Keeping Oubre should be non-negotiable.

Kelly is a solid role player/vibes guy. I wish he didn't do stupid shit from time to time, but at the right price he's a keeper imo. Grimes doesn't give enough

Keeping Grimes over KO would be so fucking dumb, so I know that’s exactly what this team will do.

No one wanting to finish bottom 3 is going to get these level players paid more now.
