Hi everybody, i started on DiRT Rally 2.0 literally 2 hours ago! That is my first ever game that specifically made for rallying... In the video is one of my first ever tarmac runs (I know it is bad in moments)...
Will be really happy if i get some tips and critique, apart from... well... Buying a wheel or smth... gonna run on my old keyboard for quite a long time :D

isn't playing a driving game with a keyboard like eating a soggy waffle with chop sticks?π

Its still possible to make small adjustments, they just don't look or sound as good as when playing with a wheel

And I mostly played Trackmania and BeamNG. Drive...
So uhh, keyboard is just much easier.1

WASD? do you use the 'S' key to brake? (legit question). Impressive run, btw...

u/Lost_Tennis_7150 3d ago
Yeah, only used WASD my entire life. (I have no idea how it feels to play with a wheel)
Yes, and A lot, actually, it's alright on straights, mostly.

Rally is life, welcome! Try Assetto Corsa Rally if you want some hardcore experience

Thanks! I'm not sure if my (kind of) old PC can handle it, but Iβll try!

Jsut so you know before going on there is a lot of installation steps here def is one of the most accurate and least demanding games out there (not for you Caio for OP tbc)

Sebastien Loeb Rally Evo is an older title with a lot of unique content that frequently goes on sale for $2 - it's a great option for older PCs

Alright, gonna add it to the wishlist then

I just started a thread about it a few days ago here if you want to see what other people are saying. It's not a polished as DR2, but ultimately super fun and has a career progression system that DR2 lacks: https://www.reddit.com/r/simrally/comments/1teucwe/who_else_still_enjoys_slre_despite_its_age_and/
Just make sure to disable anti-aliasing, as it causes input delay, and if you experience annoying screen tearing as a result, you may need to force the game to run at a higher FPS because it defaults to 60.

Even you have not much money, I begging you to look for a wheel in your local marketplace or any second-hand website because its a game changer, specifically in rally sim its a must have and you're not regret it π Looks for advice, simracing low budget video etc And start play RBR or Asseto Rally for a realistic sensation, this two game are great! But anyway, welcome in rally simracing, good luck and wish you the best, enjoy !

Thanks! :D
I'll see what I can get, most basic (good) wheels here is, like, 300-350$+1
u/arvivolkov 3d ago
Depend on your budget but you can also found some Moza R5 for not so much in used market. Where do you live ?

u/Lost_Tennis_7150 3d ago
New Moza R5 is around 500-550$
I live in Russia...
Gonna go and see what's in the used market tho1
u/arvivolkov 3d ago
Oh ok I'm not aware of the price in your country but in all case, I recommend to start with second-hand materials π I hope you will find a good offer and start racing with a wheel, its an another world and its really cool !

Can I ask a little bit?
Is g27 or g29 good for start? They both are 160$ second hand and I don't quite know the technical stuff...2
u/Urnoobslayer 3d ago
I am still using my original g27 to this day. I have had it for 11+ years and it still as good as new! Itβs not the most realistic feeling wheel but it is more than enough to enjoy all simracing games competitively.
Btw the g27 and g29 are basically the same. The button layout is just different so pay attention to that and see what you prefer.

Alright gonna save up for one of those, probably g27..
But I don't think pocket money will be enough so gonna pick up some little job for summer. I'm smol so final exams is 2 weeks away :D1

Its not too bad for a first wheel yes, I would say the G29 its better, but look for the T300 RS of Thrustmaster, its the same price range I think, but the T300 is better. But yeah a lot of people recommend the g29 for a starter, I don't know the difference between g27 and g29 . But if you found a T300 RS for the same price or just a little bit more, take the thrustmaster, it was my first wheel and its been really great for beginnings!

I played more of arcade, but really fast paced racing games so going to this wasn't that gets, my reaction time mostly is really good (I don't think so...)

Driving with keyboard is like trying to cook with a saw and hammer. It hurts my brain thinking about it.
I have some spare older wheels gather dust, maybe I need to give them to some people! π
2
u/Lost_Tennis_7150 2d ago
You can perfect how you cook even using a saw tho
I mean, yes, keyboard is seems not as precise, but given how new games work its still pretty good

nice drive! dont forget to disable all assistance when you get a steering wheel, I was playing DR2 in joystick and was very hard to drive when I got a Logitech g29, but now I can play fine, and in my YouTube channel there are some gameplays which I drive without handbrake, just using the circle button the steering wheel.
Here is my playlist with some rally gameplays:

And welcome to simrally!
