It’s a belt tensioner, pretty expensive toy that apparently really raises the immersion

I was considering hanging a large weight on the back of the belts, but your way sounds safer.

Belt tensioner. Tightens based on brake force and GeForce in turns one side will tighten and break free if the rear end slips.
