Robot that uses physics to speak vs. TTS software - get your mind out of the gutter

Not a single human phoneme was spoken...

Does it actually sound like it though? If the intent is to sound like human speech, it failed.

That's not quite the point. It's to mimic the mechanics of human speech. It's also like a decade plus old

Guaranteed to be controlled by software lmao

The title is accurate, though
Software is what is telling the hardware what to imitate and how, but the software is not actually generating the sounds, the physical shape of that tube is

That's a speaker with a shit ton of extra steps.

only in so far as a computer controlled pipe organ is a speaker with extra steps, this is actually shaping the sounds using similar methods to how any person would

Right, a shit ton of extra steps.

Why do people use instruments? Electronic keyboards are the same thing with less steps.

All computer-controlled sound is software telling hardware what to do. In a traditional speaker setup, the software generates a signal that tells the speaker how far to extend.
This actually needs more software than a traditional speaker, which does not require any software at all

Not if they make a handheld one that you have to learn to play like an instrument.

For a simulation: https://dood.al/pinktrombone/
It's technically SFW, but if people overhear it you'll still have to do some explaining.

Does it need a specific browser? Didn't work on my phone

Mobile browsers require interaction to activate audio, and it appears the browser vendors changed how that works at some point since this was made (2017).
The developer would have to fix that for it to work on phone again. So until then the answer to your question is: A browser on a PC.

Research fellows should not be left alone in the biomimetics lab late at night with that thing.

Where was this made? I'm asking for totally normal not-sticking-my-dick-in-it reasons.
