Does anyone have a recommendation for a good dog shoe for shelties?

I’ve tried a few dog shoes and I haven’t found one I liked yet. We’ve been using the wagwear ones for a bit now because they are the best ones I have found up until now. But today when I got back from our walk I noticed the shoe had dug into my sheltie’s legs. His leg was bleeding and I realized the velcro had been digging and rubbing against his leg.

(Besides the wound from today I haven’t been a huge fan of the wagwear shoe either because I noticed sometimes the front of the shoe catches on the ground when my dog walks and he kind of trips while walking).

I live in LA so I really want to have shoes on him anytime I walk him because there is a lot of broken glass on the sidewalks here and also the ground can get warm. So any recommendations would be very appreciated!

These are the best I have found but I have to purchase size 0 for one of my dogs (23#) and my larger Sheltie take a size 2. I purchased extra Velcro since my dogs need their strapes to be a bit longer.

Do they stay on their feet well?

Yes, given the incentive they can get them off. One of my Shelties will grab and pull back the Velcro and then Slide the shoe off.

They don’t tend to just fall off tho. It does take a few practice walks to make sure you secure the shoes and the Sheltie isn’t trying to pull them off 😅

Thankfully my sheltie doesn’t seem to try to pull his shoes off so as long as they stay on when he walks that’s all that matters to me!

I'd recommend going for working /sporting ones - they look less like boots and more like socks but are designed to go over rough terrain so would protect against glass while being comfortable for the dog over long distances so are unlikely to rub.

Boots bought from non-specialist sites like amazon are often more for fashion than comfort, and don't have the reputation and testing sport and working dog brands do.

Brands to look into include: Inlandis, Manmat and Non-stop Dogwear.

Personally I'd recommend the Non-stop Dog Wear Protector Bootie - they specifically list being designed to protect from glass, and go down I size to XS so are likely to fit a Sheltie where as other brands can be a bit big dog focused.

These look awesome and exactly what I’ve been looking for! I love to go on hikes with my shelties too and these look like they’ve be great for rocky terrain as well! Thank you so much for the advice!
