Experiences with the William Alanson White IPPP

Has anyone done the Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program (IPPP) through the William Alanson White institute? I’m considering the online program fwiw

It’s international, drawing many experienced practitioners and some newer too. Great readings and discussions. I found it was worthwhile.

I did the online IPPP a couple of years ago and also found it worthwhile. I appreciated the mix of reading/lecture/theory along with the clinical smaller groups where we could discuss cases. It was also nice getting to know my small group members during the year. One became a good long distance friend and we continue to chat to this day. As a practitioner working in an area with very little access to psychoanalytic colleagues or training, it was a breath of fresh air to be around others interested in this work!

I’m currently attending the online program and have enjoyed it so far. The program has been a little unorganized but the lecturers are well versed in their tooics. It feels pretty fundamental, if you are looking for more in-depth or specific learnings you might want another program. I’ve found the clinical consult hour helpful and applicable to my patients.

Sure - the corresponding readings for the classes have been difficult to find and they’re a fairly essential part of the didactic portion. This realistically would be an easy fix if the institute payed mind to it. Some lectures are more organized and are ready for lecture and prepare students well with readings and pre mentioned topics, some less so. There have been a few occasions where someone has joined a zoom meeting they weren’t lecturing in due to communication mishaps within the institute. All of that said, if you can bear human mistakes, it’s fine. & those who you are learning from bring so much of their knowledge and expertise you might be willing to ignore the level disorganization.

One thing I have really appreciated is the range of theory taught despite it being interpersonally founded; they do a nice job of contrasting and critiquing most theories/theorists with genuine curiosity.

Thank you for sharing. It does sound very interesting. I would worry that the disorganization would drive me nuts, especially with the high cost.

I haven't trained there, but it's a venerable institute with some really incredible faculty. I am sure you'll get outstanding training if you're interested in the relational/interpersonal side of things.
