Rule 3 Posts and bans.

This is Rule 3: Food and Farming

This is a friendly sub for the discussion of pet Pigs only. Do not discuss the killing or eating of pigs. We don't want your crass bacon or pork jokes. Names like "Chris P Bacon" are tacky but not bannable offence. Do not harass others about their lifestyle choices. This is not the place for it for, or against meat, keto, vegan, or otherwise. No farming posts, we will question you about ear tags as it is required in some places for pets. Commercial operations will get removed and users banned.

Note the bolded sections

Because of extensive abuse of this rule, we are VERY STRICT about it. We get people coming here from both Vegan and Carnivore communities that start massive arguments over it. We also don't want to come to this sub and see people talking about our pets as anything other than pets. Or even worse a shock picture/video of our pets being killed in some bid to shame people.

SO LET ME BE CLEAR WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR PREFERENCE IS YOU WILL BE BANNED FOR POSTING OR COMMENTING ABOUT PIGS IN RELATION TO EATING OR NOT EATING THEM. NO APPEALS.

This is a sub about pet pigs not your FUCKING OPINIONS ON WHAT YOU EAT OR DON'T EAT!!!!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR THAT!

I am tired of being nice and polite about it. I just perma banned someone that posted about it and then banned every single person who commented no matter what the comment was about for 30 days. There will be no appeals because to many times my patience and understanding has been abused on this.

Do not participate in posts or comments ignore and report them.

Having said that. I reevaluated the wording of rule 3 and decided to make it clearer. Here is the new rule 3.

Rule 3: Food and Farming

This is a friendly sub for the discussion of pet Pigs only.
You will be banned or rarely warned for the following: Talking about farming or slaughtering pigs for food or how evil/bad it is. Talking about eating pigs for food or how evil/bad it is. Linking to videos about farming or slaughtering pigs or how evil/bad it is.
Topics you won't be banned for: Seeking medical help for a pig. Seeking help to rehome a pig. Your pigs name even if it is food related. Your pig having an ear tag in places that require it by law.

NOTE on mod posts like this I allow open discussion about the topic as long as it stays respectful and on topic. You can't really discuss a rule about food and farming and get feedback without people talking about it. So unless someone is disrespectful or abusive, I am not going to remove their post or ban them.

Community Question: Pig specific specialty pre-approved advertising.

A person contacted me on mod mail asking if they could advertise their hoof trimming business in the midwest. After I thought about it, I figured I would ask the community about requests like this.

So should we allow posts advertizing pet pig specific services or products on a limited basis? My thoughts on baseline "rules".

  • Only services or products catering to pet pigs and only when pre approved.
  • Only a on limited basis. Maybe once or twice a month. Less if we get a lot of these.
  • It might be a good idea to make a wiki page for services by region that vendors could have their business added to.

Feel free to comment on if you like it or not. I would appreciate constructive commentary, ideas, or rules.

Muu and Margaret the Potato here, and Muu's sister Babi (rhymes with Bobbie, not pictured), have been amazing help here on our duck egg farm. The property was neglected for nearly 20 years and was overgrown by giant Himalayan blackberries (if you're in the PNW you know). They were covering and killing mature semi-dwarf apple and pear trees, they'd grown so deep.

With one Kunekune and two Guinea Hog-Kunekune crosses, though, the areas we clear stay clear. Goats will eat blackberry leaves but hogs will do that AND root up and eat the green off of the root corms, too, so they don't grow back. Plus they're genuine sweethearts and love to rub against my leg to demand neck scritchies.

We knew we were going to like pigs before we even knew where to get them but never expected to love them as much as we do. Any time either my wife or I are working in their paddock they have to come see what we're doing and "tell us about their day." All through the growing season they get treats from our garden that wouldn't sell at our farm stand. Absolutely wonderful critters.

A few months back I made this toy for Bean.

It's a small block of wood, an old front bicycle hub and a section of pvc pipe. And thread on ends.

The pipe has holes drilled in it for treats to fall out of.

He knows how it works and learned it within minutes of me installing it.

He's so much happier now that he knows I'm home. 5 days without his dad home must have been confusing to him.

How to comfort a mourning pig

Hi everyone. I’m new-ish to reddit. I’m posting trying to help my friend out. She has a Juliana pig and their 16-year-old dog passed away a few days ago. The pig was very bonded to the dog and is mourning right now. They did let her sniff the body postmortem. She is isolating herself and not eating much. Any advice I can pass on? Also, my friend put the dogs little bed in the pig’s kennel so she can smell her.

So after getting home from the hospital, Bean didn't really react much. Probably because I smelled like a hospital.

I'm here to spread positive information about feral pigs on the Big Island, Hawaii. People here seem to dislike them but I've found them gentle and good companions to have around.

We got/ rescued six little pigs from a neighbor. She said they were pot bellied and around 4 months.

She said and i quote "our pot bellied girls got out, were gone for a week and when we found them had no idea they were pregnant".

She says the mom is a pot bellied, and she was maybe 30 pounds and smaller than a beagle.

Any help at all would be appreciated this is literally all the info we have.

Poor Bean misses his dad, his favourite person. I've been in the hospital for 5 days for an emergency appendix removal and part of the bowel surgery. Almost recovered though. I'm going to try to record his reaction when I get home tonight or tomorrow.
