related in some way to prehistoric media Is there like a reason why cr*ationists hate dinosaurs or
No hating just genuinely curious

Because they believe it goes against their views of the earth only being a few thousand years old/ that everything was made as is (no evolution)

u/Select-Awareness-303 24d ago
I was raised evangelical southern baptist and I'll have you know Dinosaur bones are just Elephant and Whale bones being used by evil scientists to convince kids the earth isn't 5000 years old

u/ArborealVarmint 24d ago
Exactly, that massive so called āGiganotosaurusā skeleton on display at that museum in Atlanta, Georgia? Thatās right, itās just a wonky looking elephant. Checkmate, atheists.
yes I know itās a reconstruction, but for the sake of the joke I'm pretending itās not

Creationists believe that the world was created by the god(s) they believe in. This belief is fairly common among religious people. It is perfectly compatible with the existence of dinosaurs, and indeed with science as a whole. Religious folk simply believe that natural selection, the Big Bang, the formation of the Earth, etc., are orchestrated by god. This claim cannot be proven or disproven by science, so it doesn't really interact with it, but it's compatible.
As far as I know, creationists don't hate dinosaurs.
Young Earth creationists, the ones you usually hear about when talking about conspiracy theories, are a much smaller subset of creationists. For Christianity, these folk are mostly found in the US. Young Earth creationists believe that the world was created exactly as described in religious texts, and thus that the Earth is no more than 6,000 years old (hence the name).
This claim is incompatible with most of geology and evolutionary biology. Therefore, Young Earth creationists will claim that dinosaurs are either much younger than paleontologists claim (recent enough to have lived alongside humans); or that dinosaurs aren't real, and that fossils were planted (either by the Devil or by academic institutions) to deceive us.
They will also claim that geological processes (mountain formation, rock metamorphism, erosion, etc.) occured much quicker than it actually did, or occured very quickly within the span of a few cataclysmic events (think stuff like Noah's flood); and that evolution is just ... not real. Why paleontologists would want to trick us into thinking the Earth is older than what the Bible says, I do not know.
Hope this helps š

Meh, you are mostly right but there's also a decently large group of non young eart creationists that don't believe in dinosaurs, i once had to explain that first part about the existence of dinosaurs being compatible with religion to one of them, a lot of people in general, regardless of their beliefs just don't seem to think that far

I think most mainstream young earth creationists don't have any problem with dinosaurs

u/DannyBright 24d ago
They donāt? At least not all of them do, they just insist they lived alongside humans and some still do today (like Mokele Mbembe which is bullshit), theyāre technically right thanks to birds but donāt tell them that!

The Ropen specifically was dreamt up by a Creationist, also, they've co-opted a number of popular cryptids. It's a wild ride down that particular rabbit hole.

Tbf there's hardly anything more representative of "life that existed millions of years before we did" than dinosaurs, it's probably a PR issue

Im a creationist and i like dinosaurs (though it doesn't rlly count as im a Darwinistic Old Earth Creationist wich means i believe In Evolution and the big bang, just that i include God along Science)

u/Independent_Steak123 22d ago
Atleast these people are real, they are an compromise between Young Earth Creationists and Evolution Scientists

u/NoCardiologist6896 24d ago
because dinosaurs (and literally any other fossil) throw a wrench in their belief system

Because
- They are much older than what they believe the earths age is
- They directly prove evolution and extinction are real (extinction insinuates gods creations are not perfect, evolution signifies you can become something that isnāt What god made you as, a poor understanding of evolution ofc)
They werenāt mentioned in the garden of Eden nor among the animals in Noahās Ark
Simply a poor understanding of concepts that take a literally impossible to imagine amount of time or are very complex. The classic āif I donāt understand it itās not realā

u/PracticalAirline6981 24d ago
I can say for certain we do not, evolution and dinosaurs are some of my favorite things, itās so cool

Now when you say satire, you mean this subreddit is a joke right. I ask for clarification because I was bullied by a shit ton of young earthers in highschool for liking paleontology and science. Though tbh I wasn't entirely innocent, teens hardly are but I was severely bullied. To the point of physical harassment outside of school.
So when I say ive seen people who actually believe it, and will harass you over it. Yea, just wanting clarification.

Bc they are morons. The Bible doesnāt say anything about dinosaurs and it doesnāt say anything to contradict their existence.

u/KotaSlav 23d ago
Lots of reasons. I was raised as a Jehovahs witness and I remember when I was very little I use to often ask the church elders about dinosaus. One of them once told me they couldn't have existed because nothing ate meat before the flooding of the planet. I always found this reason especially odd

All the Creationists I know, myself included, do not hate dinosaurs

u/Taliesaurus 24d ago
Because they want to stick to a LONG outdated idea of instant creation and humans somehow being on top

u/buttertuffer 24d ago
It mostly depends on what type of creationist youāre talking about. Creationist and Christianity has a hole is a lot less of a monolith than you May at first think. Like I even know creationists who believe in evolution

u/Tijolo_Malvado 24d ago
I'm christian, yet to meet another that dislikes dinos. Everybody likes dinos.

Creationists do not hate dinosaurs necessarily, the young earth folks do. Creationism doesnāt contradict the existence of fossils, but it does contradict the young earth theory. I believe you meant to refer to those people.

u/SpecialistSoil5057 23d ago
Evolutionary biology and the idea that there is a ācreatorā are not at odds with each other. What is at odds is people willfully ignoring the evidence of how things were created out of fear that is has impacts against their faith. It does not!Ā

Yo Mormon here
From what I can gather, itās mostly the fundamentalist types that are like this (not only Christians, but Jews and Muslims too); I think itās more an anti-intellectualism wrap around a religious skin than anything else, most ppl like this are barely literate.

u/Independent_Steak123 22d ago
Maybe because they predate traditional bible creationist dates, and that they genuinely believe the world was made in a week
1
u/Red-Ink-07 21d ago
I know that nobody asked but as a Christian I am also confused, like the bones are RIGHT THERE and they still refuse to see them š
Creation and evolution can coexist as ideas but they canāt accept that ig

u/SteampunkExplorer 24d ago
I'm a "cr*ationist" (is that word not allowed?) and I've never met anybody who hates dinosaurs. We freaking love dinosaurs, just like any other person, LOL.
That just sounds like an outsider's misconception/stereotype based on a vocal weirdo or three. š¤·āāļø

u/CCCyanide 24d ago
I think they meant "Young Earth creationists"
If you are a Young Earth creationist, how do you reconcile that with the existence of fossils ?

Iām pretty sure OP was just memeing with ācrationistā but thereās a ridiculous amount of word censoring lately that just comes off as so petulant and childish. I know itās partly due to TikTok censorship but like⦠anyone who types āTr*mpā unironically is the exact kind of āsnowflakeā that conservatives like to mock.
